Pretty sweet. Am I naive in thinking that I will ever have a 1920x1200 res screen or are these just going to take over an ruin my life?
 
There are some Acer 24" refurbs on TD that are $169+$10ship-$20bcb = $159 shipped if anyone's interested, as well.
 
dont care about 16:10 or 16:9, but no screen rotation = not a good eyefinity candidate
 
Ugh, I can't stand 16:9. Sad to see that it's the way monitors are going these days.

Not at that price point.... you have to step up into >$400 territory.
 
^Me either and I feel the same way about 16:9 for a monitor.
 
What's the big problem with 16:10? All TVs are made that way and I have no problems playing games on my TV.
 
I just don't see a 24" TN monitor in stock anywhere anymore. There is an asus 26" 1920x1200 for 270 AR, but I wouldn't pay that much for a TN 24" 16:10 monitor in 2010. In 2008... maybe.
 
The only good deal I know of for 1920x1200 in a 24" are newegg's HP LP2465 refurbs, but they're OOS atm.

Yeah, I think he lost his way there. But we get what you mean! I don't hate 16:9 I just like more pixels. I don't mean to enrage the whole aspect ratio debate, I truly don't. But I just like 16:10 because I don't watch movies on it and I like the extra real estate. If it all goes 16:9, then so be it. I will buy them as long as they are supported. BTW, good deal OP, didn't mean to take it off topic.
 
Er, right. I meant to say: what is wrong with 16:9? The difference in aspect ratio is minimal. The difference in visual clarity is almost zero. I can't honestly say I notice the difference between 1900x1200 and 1920x1080 in terms of visual fidelity.

As a developer and Eyefinity user, I really need the extra 120 vertical lines for code. Plus, the 16:10 aspect ratio easily allows me to step down to 5040x1050 for games. 4800x900 is a much larger step down.
 
I love my 1920x1200 HP LP2465 refurb.
I don't hate the 16x9 aspect ratio but for main computing needs, I love the extra vertical resolution.
 
I'm thinking about finally retiring my 2005FPW which is starting to suffer from burn in.

I know this is an IPS, and this is a TN, but it beats the once elite 2005FPW in almost every technical catergory....even viewing angles....

Any reason why I shouldn't? I don't really have the money to spend on say a U2407

Are you going to use them side-by-side? If so, you won't be a happy camper when you start comparing colors and shading. If you're truly retiring the 2005, then go for it. Or consider the LP2465 that's been mentioned...

Yeah only have room for one at the moment. Which colors will I be disappointed in, the 24" incher?

You kind of have it backwards. 16:9 are already the native supported monitors in games and movies. 16:10 is the odd guy trying to fit in.

Don't confuse aspect ratio with resolution. 16:10 is a smaller aspect ratio then 16:9. 1900x1200 is a bigger resolution then 1920x1080.

That is my point, simply resolution. More pixels, more real estate. I want more pixels but I know movies are formatted for the 16:9 and so on. I may just be bellyaching but I am used to the 16:10 and I am sure games will support both for some time to come.

what do you mean smaller aspect ratio? that doesnt make sense. if by smaller, you mean less wide, then i guess your right..:confused:

I use a 2409w next to my 24" westinghouse, and the westy looks bigger. both are 24" diagonal screens, so neither is 'smaller', but the westy looks bigger.
 
16:10 is 1.6 ratio 16:9 is 1.777 ratio. the golden mean is 1.618 . people naturally prefer things that fits in to the golden mean.


with web content being vertical and centered 16:9 just waste more screen. for games makes no major difference but for web content or any standard printed 8.5x11 type work it is just extra space on the sides and less vertical work space.

the price is nice if you dont mind 16:9. i got one for the parents they still have a 17 in crt. happy mothers day!
 
The 23" version of the monitor is available today for $169...very, very tempting.
