Dear L4D players

Left 4 Dead... I want my money back. I've completed all the content and have no desire to revisit it with anyone aside from my friends. They really don't play anymore.

Lesson learned I guess...

Not really a reason that you should get your money back

yeah 90% of the game is in VS. if you don't play VS much you did in fact buy the wrong game, like buying counterstrike for the single player.

It just needs more levels and weapons in my opinion, too bad they are charging for that in L4d2, but I might end up getting it anyway since I enjoyed the first one for awhile until it got very repetative and boring.

It also lost its scare factor once you know where everything is and how to navigate the map, what they really need is a random map generator. That way its truely different every time in verses and in co-op. Have like different sections of the map, about 8-10 different variations each section, and randomly generate a combination of the entire map.

Yeah, most of the players in my friend list don't play anymore. It seems this is a common thing. Many have given up on the game

I will probably play Crash Course and that's it for me. Got around 50 hours gameplay out of the game so I can't complain. It was half price when I bought it.

I think l4d2 will have map generation.

They most certainly will.

L4D versus is a fantastic game, it's the community that ruins it. I am hoping L4D2 can figure out some way to help fix this, hopefully Crash Course helps with the shorter campaigns. Oh, and hopefully the matchmaking system actually works, nothing like having someone rage and no one else joining, or sitting in a lobby for ever. That's the main thing wrong with L4D.

Ill get it regardless, I put in like 100 hrs over a few months, and that's some damn nice and cheap entertainment

QFT right here.

L4D versus is an excellent game, Ive easily had 150+ hours and still play it sometimes.

Problem with this game is noobs/idiots/grifers/unbalanced teams/ragequits/bad matchmaking...in other words almost everything not gameplay related, that makes L4D sour.
I've had great games with great people (yes even with random ppl) but unfortunately more crap games with lame people seems to exceed that.
IMO the people you play with determine if you'll have fun or not.

The griefing in L4D is out of hand.

My wife was playing co-op with a friend of mine from my account, she'd never played before so they were playing on easy mode from the first campaign.

Set it as a private, friend-only server, yet half way through the first level, 2 guys somehow managed to join the game, didn't say anything, just ran ahead and started clearing the level very quickly, picking up all the fun items and using them instantly, just to take the fun out of it for my wife and friend.

We didn't say anything, because it was so bizarre, just left and made a new server.

Same two people join again, this time I ask "how did you get in here?", one of them replies "do you believe in magic?", they continue on with clearing the level very quickly, then they turn back and come and kill my wife and friend, then proceed to start talking shit.

Just disgusting, I've never seen this type of griefing before, what type of person has fun ruining a co-op mission on easy mode for a new player?

It lost it's scare factor when they lamed the tank/witch. Some of my favorite gamers included rounds where one team would get two tanks and the other none. It kept me on the edge and provided much needed laughs. I wish they would at least allow that functionality back in as an option. Also, would be nice to see RANDOM items and weapons instead of being in mostly the same spot.

Just give me our tank scares back you bastards! I don't want another CS, I want FUN!

It may have been their server. So they had the rights. But that doesn't excuse being assholes. They could broadcast a warning that the server is being shut down for their own use. If you were hosting it on your own machines and internet connection, next time use the console and kick them. In order to do bans you'd have to maintain the list after exiting the game.

Open the console
status
That will show the list of all the connected players and their steam ids.
Highlight the steamid with your mouse and copy paste it into command line.
kickid STEAM_1:1:1234567 Message

If they're going to rejoin spam you, you can write a script to constantly kick them. The clipboard is your friend.
bind F12 "kickid STEAM_1:1:1234567 kicking you is now bound to a key"
Then just press the key you bound every time it says they've joined. You can use banid, but once you're done playing they could come back another day.

I use a variation of this to screen shot and console dump the IDs of every player who's griefed me. That way when I one day have a server of my own on steam they get to be auto banned for life.

If you need private l4d servers let me know I have one but I don't use it that much anymore (not until CC comes out).

Set it as a private, friend-only server, yet half way through the first level, 2 guys somehow managed to join the game
If you join from the server browser rather than the match finder then the "friends only" flag is ignored.

Was a while before I found out why people were always asking me "How did you get in here?" :D

Heh, I was playing with some others, and they were being complete dicks. We happened to be on a server I have admin rights to, so I turned my team into 4 tanks. I would have loved to have seen the looks on their faces. :p

I play pretty regularly with a group of friends, and it's a rare night there aren't 8 of us looking for a game. Never any ragers, no griefers, though one or two of us are pretty sloppy with the shotty sometimes. :p

I still enjoy the game as much as I ever have; but it's having quality people to play with that makes all the difference.

Haha! Suckers! I'm @ a LAN playing L4D and it's AWESOME! Nothing beats hearing dude's screaming and yelling from across the room. :D

If ur not making noise at a LAN party, ur doing it wrong man.

So just leave. =\ Don't even give them a reason to do it. Lol. You're taking the fun out of it by just exiting and jumping into a new game. Or, get friends to play with. Here's my steam ID:raikothreat.
Add me.

Edit: It seems like an annoying thing to do, but you WILL Find good friends no there. I always play at pubs and meet up with great people just by jumping around. I've actually made some good friends on there, and play with them as frequently as possible and they always invite me back because I'm the sharpshooter/sniper type. xD

Don't have a great deal of sympathy for people who play with random people on servers with no passwords or whatever, of course this is going to happen, it's like getting on the dodgems and then complaining that some 12 year old kid just smashed into the side of you.

Start private servers preferably with a password running, and make sure you play with friends, theres plenty of open communities who already have servers andplay reguarly who are always looking for sensible people to play with.

People are still playing L4D? I lost interest after the first 10 minutes...
Oh my God, you make up everyone who plays video games!

Only on a few occasions have I come across someone on my team being absolutely retarded. Mic spamming, team killing, you name it. But a quick vote takes care of it.

eh? I just find it surprising that people enjoyed it. It was a pretty terrible game in my opinion. I realize that everyone has different opinions but I'm just surprised that a lot of people still enjoy it. Zombie games and co-op games can be done well, but L4D just felt like a very polished source mod, that wasn't very fun. If it had a compelling campaign experience with a real storyline and more diverse gameplay, it would have been a much better game. As dynamic as the AI and campaign elements were, it felt like the same thing over and over again with no real story arch. Just the same bot matches with dynamic spawning bots.

DMoM&M was an example of a source game that was really fun and if L4D had a compelling campaign, story, and diverse gameplay like that game did, I think it would have been a lot better.

When you look at the bigger picture isn't L4D actually grieffing the entire gaming community?

If it had a compelling campaign experience with a real storyline...
Think about that a little harder... It's designed for replayability. How many times can you sit through the same bits of dialogue and plot exposition before you never want to hear them again? Can you imagine being forced to sit through a cutscene every time you played a round of CS or something? It might make your first play through more enjoyable, but in the long run it'd do more harm than good.

As far as L4D being repetitive... No more so than any online shooter, in my opinion. TF2 is the same thing over and over. Q3A is the same thing over and over. In fact, I can't think of one that isn't. It doesn't make them any less fun.

They still could have made a single player campaign. you know considering the quadrabillion dollars theyve made off of it.

You think too much. All I have to do is ask myself how fun is this experience?

Q3? Fun...
TF2? ok a bit fun...
L4D... fun for the first few hours not worth $50

Yeah and they could make a single player version of WOW as well considering how much money they have made off it..........but it's a multiplayer game they are not interested in a single player game and 100% of their target market isn't interested in a single player game as well.

My buddy can't stand the game either. I think you're both broken. :p

I do have a few complaints however. In the beginning the game threw a random number of tanks/witches @ you and they could spawn anywhere. The items would also be random, but now they've changed everything up and made it very...well...anti-climatic for the 2nd go through. They've taken the fun out of it and replaced it w/ CSS style competitiveness and it drives me nuts. I would love an option to have random tanks, witches, items, etc again. I remember laughing a lot more w/ this game. :(

dropped the game a few months ago, recently picked it back up and downloaded some custom campaigns off l4dmods.com or something similar. i never play public servers, too many idiots. fun to play with friends in campaign/vs. a lot of fun to grief friends too.

we all just grab the new maps and give em a whirl for a week or two before we try a new one. always a good laugh.

This. Also:

1. It's important to run ahead. It keeps your teammates on their toes.
2. Make sure to hit every car alarm then quickly run back into a closet. Shoot Anthony that opens the door, they could have turned into ZOMBIES!!
3. There's a hidden finale at the end of every level. Simply wait until the other 3 hole themselves up in the room behind the red door, then chuck a Molotov inside whilst spamming your M60. If you do it right they will all sit down and watch as you attempt to race back to the start. Bonus points if you can line them up with the sniper.
4. Don't forget to randomly scream like a girl and accidentally let your tier 2 shotty off the hook 4 times on the nearest friend.

lololol... do we know eachother? this sounds a lot like my professional play-style.

I don't play very much anymore, but feel free to add me anyway. I'm sure ther'll be a shot ton of ways to cause chaos in L4D2 when that cones out.
