The title is from Family Guy for those who do not watch it religiously. :D

This weekend is move out weekend for Purdue University. I am still stuck here as a result of procrastination and having an exam today. :( So I will only be done packing late tonight. I will leave for Chicago by bus tomorrow, the 8th on my way to the airport and back home to Singapore..

Parents ask me to get a car decal for their new SUV so I go a walking to the bookstore to get some stuff. On the way back, I see a computer case on the sidewalk and it looks like it has been thrown away. Naturally, I take a look to see if anything is salvageable.

There is the usual generic PSU as well as a case fan but I also find what looks like a Athlon XP/Duron mobo w/ the CPU. I have not identified it yet and cannot take pics since I dont have a digicam. :(. Naturally I pick it up and take it back with me hoping it works but expecting mobo to be fried.

Since I dont have a T.V. here, this evening's entertainment will consist of me testing to see if this is workable or not. More updates later tonight. :D

BTW, can anyone identify this mobo? Here is the description:
Old Yellow and black.
1 AGP and 5 PCI ports
The IDE and the floppy ports are right next to it in a parallel alignment
mobo battery is to the right of the last two PCI slots
chipset heatsink has PC DDR 266 on it.
4 DIMM slots. 1st two are red and the last two are black.

There should be a model number on it. It's usually down toward the last PCI slots. Post back what is there and someone should be able to identify it.

Lucky, I've been hoping for people to throw away computers here. Every day I check the dumpster but no luck.

no such luck. however, if this mobo works, the BIOS should spit out something. Will let the [H]orde know later tonight. Gotta finish packing tonight. :D

perhaps the guys in the motherboards forum can help you out better with id'ing the mobo...

More then likely its a board based on a VIA KT266 or KT 266A chipset. Hopefully the later since its a much more stable chipset. I'm basing that off the chipset having PC DDR266 on it.

Old Yellow and black.
Is the motherboards PCB yellow and black?

I assume by "it" you mean the AGP slot. And by parallel to it you mean they are not running up/down but rather sideways just like the AGP/PCI slots?

If it is a KT266 based board it shouldn't be too hard to identify having a black PCB with 4 DIMM slots.

We have a winner....

Its likely to be an Amptron K7-830XLM or LM as seen here http://www.amptron.com/html/m830lm.html I presume there is not a southbridge chip on the board that you have? This factoid would confirm that it is at least an SIS chipset.

The black and red RAM slots tipped me off, as there were few hybrids that accepted both DDR and SDRAM, and these clowns being the only ones using red for one set of dimm slots. Amptron boards are boards only worthy of being sold to one's enemy.

thanks Schro.

I just managed to boot up and I believe you are right. Looks like no o/c options even though heatsink looks fine. Too bad this is a shitty mobo but at least it works and cen be put to fold. :)

Totally amazed by your thread..... Take that how you want...

Anyway. nice Title, thats what captured my attention. I was like.... Quagmire....
