isnt Dead Space supposed to be released this week for pc? I dont see any specials or even any mention of it in the sales ads today.

EDIT: really confusing pc release dates
Gogamer says 10/20

Circuit City says 10/28

Best Buy says 10/21

Gamespot says available now

EDIT: nevermind. Reading comprehension is your friend. I believe its the 28th (at least from what I've read in various articles).

It's supposed to be SHIPPED on the 20th to retailers, but apparently most don't get it until 1-2 days afterwards, so you could call your local gaming shop tomorrow and see if they got it, but chances are they'll get it on the 21st

well thats the one store we dont have here and everytime I click your link IE crashes. lol

I need someone to play this and elaborate on it for me. I know what the reviews say, but I really prefer multiple user input before I make a call on something like this.

I want someone to tell me if there's any tension in it, with some good shit your pants jump moments. My buddy has a projector setup and we'd like to do a group play through one night before Halloween.

We used to do group Silent Hill and RE game nights, and those were always a blast.

I haven't played it, but from the gameplay videos I've seen, it seems like a slow/dumbed down version of Silent Hill. Nothing wrong with that, though :)

I'm playing it on the 360.

It is fucking awesome.

Make sure you are playing it with a good 5.1 setup; the mix is incredible and actually does more than half the work as far as ratcheting up the tension.

QFT

The sound keeps the tension high, hearing shit crawl around behind the walls/in the next room

Agreed, playing it on the PS3 and I have to force myself to put the controller down and go to bed so I can get enough sleep to function at work.

I dont even have 5.1 and the sounds are excellent on this game, it seems as if they put a lot of thought into practically every single room you walk into.

I wish this game didn't sound so awesome. I'm going to have to break down and buy it tonight on my way home. Maybe i'll be able to restrain myself from buying fable 2 instead.

firefox works :)

I have heard everything from 12-20 hours. that probably means 20+ hours for me since I like to take my time, explore and actually enjoy games.

Crap I'm gonna have to buy the damn thing.

I will say that I've played it for about an hour and find it to be absolutely tits!

The PC version is out today. I picked my copy up at Gamestop a couple hours ago. Other retailers may not have it today though because it shipped yesterday and most retailers don't do overnight shipping for non-A++ titles, unlike Gamestop that does so for almost all new releases.

just out of curiousity I checked all over the south from their website and none of the Gamestops have them

I'll be getting this game, sadly, it doesn't appear to be available through STEAM :(

There website is usually not entirely updated, especially with same-day deliveries. In addition many stores will sell out of the PC copy today, and may have already done so. I suggest you call the actual stores to find out if they have it.

Ah, screw it. This piece of crap is getting uninstalled and going up for sale. Tried installing FRAPS to record a video of what is happening with the controls, but the program automatically caps your FPS at 30 and this seems to fix the problem. The funny thing is, enabling Vsync in the ingame options, which also seems to cap the FPS at 30, introduces a huge lag with mouse movement rendering the game unplayable. There is literally a half second delay between when you move the mouse, and when the pointer moves. This happens on both menus, and ingame. The only other thing I can think of to try is to install the joy2mouse software, and see if this will let me remap my mouse controls for use with my logitech gamepad.

Check the thread in the PC section. The problem with the mouse lag is due to Vsync being enabled.

You must have forced vsync through some other way, because disabling it completely removes the mouse input lag

If you read my post above, I said that Vsync introduces the lag making the game unplayable. Unfortunately, enabling Vsync is also the only way to normalize the mouse movement so that it isn't either dreadfully slow or blistering fast dependings on your surroundings.

I would advise anyone thinking of buying this game to get it for PS3 or 360.

Play it on the big screen in the living room with the lights down and the 5.1 sound cranked up and you might just pee a little.

Eh, I'd rather play it on my 24" 2-3 feet away from my face with 5.1 surround with kb/m and better graphics, than a 46" 12' away. If being immersed into the game is the goal, the PC does a better job (for me). Now if I want to play Madden 09, I'd play it on the PS3.

I've played the first 30 mins on the 360 - so far, so good! The game is the sweetest eye candy

Lol, im on the fork between this, Gears 2 and Fable two. I am broke now since I just bought my 360.... Just can't decide what to get.

This game is so damn awesome. It's twisted as hell, the graphics are excellent, the pacing is spot on, and so far the story (while somewhat pulled from other familiar sources) is engaging.

Sure there are lots of horror game cliches, but the whole package is incredibly enjoyable.

Just got done playing through a few chapters with my friend at his house on his projector setup. Pitch black room, with his huge 5.1 setup cranked loud as hell. He's a jumper, which in turn made me jump, and there are some truly horrifying visuals in this game. The kind of stuff that makes you go "who thinks this shit up"

Spoilerish comment below:

The babies fucking bother me

I can't agree more or stress enough what the other posters have said. This is an awesome big screen 5.1 powerhouse game. Hook your pc up to your HDTV and have a good time, if you can get your controls to work I guess... that really sucks.

Kahnvex - I agree, 5.1 or bust with this game. It honestly has the best surround sound mix I've ever heard in a game, just scary as all hell.

And the thing that bothers you, yeah, its really messed up, haha.

I was waiting for the PC version, but after reading about all of the weird problems, I ordered a used copy of the 360 version today. :D

I'm using VSync, my config file is set to 60fps, and it's running at 60 in game. The mouse movement is fine on my system for the most part. I had to change the DPI setting on my mouse a couple of times. The problem I have is that the mouse look speed is different between aiming mode and normal mode. They either need to link them, or allow them to be changed separately. The controls take a little getting used to, but they are still so much better than using a game pad.

You nailed the REAL issue right on the head J3RK.

I fired the game up on PC last night and played for about 15 minutes (Fable II took up the rest of my night). Since I had read this and other threads about Deadspace at work the first thing I did was turn off Vsync. After doing so I did not find the mouse controls to be particularly difficult or frustrating at all until I actually got a gun and tried aiming..... All of a sudden my mouse sensitivity seemed to be cut down to about 25% of (my) normal. I immediately figured this would make combat nigh-impossible. However, when the first Necro started coming for me I actually found I could aim for its limbs very easily, and had no trouble dispatching it.

Normally I play on VERY high mouse sensitivity, so I don't know what the effect is if you play with low sensitivity. If it drops sensitivity to 25% of the players current setting then the game would be impossible for low sensitivity players, but if it is dropping it to a set amount, like 20% of the maximum setting, then a low sensitivity player might not even notice the change. .

I think it is entirely possible that they made this change for a very good reason... The monsters don't seem to move REALLY fast, so you pretty much always have a second or two to aim. If mouse aiming sensitivity was too high the game would in some ways be much harder, and in other ways be far too easy. It seems to me that by slowing it down the devs are trying to match PC gamers aiming speed with that of console gamers because the mobs are designed for slower aiming. Also, slower aiming is harder because it just FEELS wierd, but it might actually make the game a bit easier. The lower sensitivity seems to make it a easier to hold your point of aim exactly on target. Then you just need to make make the minor adjustments needed to hit a limb that is moving fairly slowly relative to the players point of view (as it is when a mob is moving towards you rather than at a right angle from you), and these minor adjustments are sometimes easier with slow aiming than with fast.

The interesting thing is that this lowered aiming sensitivity makes the way you play the game different, and actually more realistic. For instance, in real life you really can NOT aim a gun while running, you need to stop moving and look carefully down the barrel to file with any real accuracy at all. In this game if you want to move and shoot you will do so much more like in real life, slow steps to the side or backwards, moving your point of aim slowly as well. If you REALLY need to move to a different location to shoot, or avoid an attack, as in real life, you will need to stop aiming (though you in real life you could still "point" your weapon in the right general direction), make your quick movement, and then re-aim your weapon.

Long story short, I found the game playable and possibly better for the aiming sensitivity change, though the Vsync thing is totally stupid.

my pc works either way - with vsync on or off - the only lag i get is in the menu's

what i did was setup a macro for my mouse, when i get ctrl in game to lock aim mode - my mouse ups the dpi - when i hit ctrl again, it drops it back down

it keeps the two modes [movement and aiming] about even

30" dell 3008 @ 2560x1600 and klipsch thx 5.1 surround - make sure you play with the lights off at night...

this game is farking amazing... i havent been this impressed since bioshock

mood atmosphere ambiance - it's got it all in spades!

Anyone else having problems with the PC version under Vista 32bit? I installed the game fine, then installed Far Cry 2 which required me to update video drivers (180.42 from laptopvideotogo) and it ran smooth. Every time I launch Dead Space, it hangs for a few seconds and then crashes. I am not the only one with this problem. Dozens of others on the Ea forums are reporting it to under both xp and Vista (see link below) I had a similar problem back in July when I upgraded to a larger hard drive in my notebook and re-installed Assassins Creed. A no-dvd crack fixed that but it is too soon for one for Dead Space and I can't even be sure that it would fix it. I'm leaving for a 90 day deployment in a couple days and really want to take the game with me to play.
