Dead Space remake (2023)

DS2 was the one I was looking forward to THE MOST!

(as I'm certain almost everyone else was)
Nope, I can just install the original and play through that again. I was not a fan of the changes and pandering done in the remake of the first game.

The death knell for all remakes:

The Callisto Protocol sold better.

why does Dead Space 2 never seem to go on sale?...currently the 2023 remake ($41.99) and Dead Space 3 ($4.99) are on sale on Steam...even during the recent Steam Summer Sale DS2 wasn't discounted...I have a disc copy of DS2 but the activation key doesn't work on Origin or Steam

the game is on sale during the Steam Summer sale for $3.99...I bought it, so now I have all 3 games available through Origin and Steam...I still need to buy the remake

does the Steam version of DS2 come with the story DLC?...I don't see any mention of it in the storefront

DS2's story DLC, Severed, is only available with the Xbox 360 & PS3 versions. Emulation is the easiest way to get around that headache.

Console only. Severed isn't important, and all it is is walking backward through the first area of the game. I finished it in around 30 minutes and feel it doesn't add anything to the base game. I'd just get the mod that unlocks the doors that you need to have played the console-exclusive puzzle game Ignition for. Be sure to read the description for the mod, though, as there are some concessions to make it work. I think it's worth it solely due to the extra resources you get, including more power nodes, which are vital for the Zealot and Impossible difficulties.

The stuttering and hitches of this game were an unfortunate thing to be left unfixed. I'm only asking here if anyone believes it could be the Denuvo DRM causing the reoccuring small hitches in certain spots, since I understand the console versions also have traversal stutter, but only in points when there is really something big to be loaded, otherwise running fine. I plea the publisher to remove the DRM today, just in case; it wouldn't hurt anyone, I doubt even sales at this point. Of course if they know the issue is not related to the DRM, it doesn't matter then, I'd just like to see this game running smooth one day, since I deem it as a nice addition to the great original.

Have they said no remake of 2 & 3? I know they were not as good as 1, but I'd still like to see it.

Yeah, EA killed it. Supposedly, a remake of DS2 was planned, pitched, and in the conceptual stage at some point, but sales of the DS1 remake weren't strong enough for the execs to want to move forward despite the very positive reception. I think it sold and made them millions, just not enough million$ and so it missed "expectations".

Maybe one day when it's been absent long enough they'll bring it back, but I hope if Dead Sp4ce ever happens they return to its horror roots instead of the more action-oriented DS3 that most people agree was the worst of the series.

EA might be the worst publisher today. It's wild to me no one understands the concept of putting out certain things to keep your brand. If they were releasing premium Dead Space games that at least broke even or made a little bit of money but made their brand look way better, it'll extend grace to other franchises. They're just the absolute fucking worst.

Not just keeping your brand, but it sounds like it legit made them money. I will never get this attitude of "It made money, but not ENOUGH money so we aren't doing it!" EA is hardly the only company that does that stupid thing, Motorola was famous for selling off things that weren't profitable enough, only to then find out they no longer made things they needed and had to buy them from the companies they'd sold the IP to.

If something is profitable, I just don't see why keeping it would be a bad idea. Not EA though, it has to be super successful or else out it goes.

It's insane, it's amazing none of these publishers get it. Look at how quickly Blizzard's reputation died post Starcraft 2. If they made a Starcraft 3 that was a knock out sequel it would bring so many people back into the fold. There are so many talented developers and artists in the world, this behavior is so short sighted and stupid.

I don't think these games needed a remake. They needed a proper reboot with modern storyline and appeal to new audience.
Needed to throw in a tranny in a suit talking about being nice to monsters and having a cult focused on scientology!

:cautious:

I've played Dead Space 1, 2, and 3. Is the remake worth it? I've read the remake has stuttering issues. Is that still true? Seems to be according to the posts I've read around the internet.

IMO it's def worth it. I played it on PS5 and found the traversal stutter that happens between areas very minor and did not interfere with game play. Maybe it's a bit worse on PC, but I can't imagine it being game breaking unless you're just that sensitive to it.

Is it basically a retelling of the first game? Is it harder/easier?

Indeed, just a bit more fleshed out since Isaac actually has dialog in this one and he was mute in the original. The gameplay and levels are pretty much 1:1 to the original with the other major difference being that you're free to ride the tram to any level/area when you like, which is cool but I can't remember if that really changes much in terms of the order of the levels or how that's beneficial to the progression. Difficulty is exactly the same as I recall as well.

I was able to beat it on the hardest ("impossible"?) difficulty to get the finger bang pistol that one-shots everything by save-scumming and reloading my game before the death-animation completed. 😁

Thanks.

I heard there is some backtracking (taking the tram to previous levels/areas?) in the remake. Is that necessary or optional?

The tram is part of the main theme in both versions due to how the Ishimura is designed, so it makes sense to back track. I still need to play the remake past the beginning area...

100% worth it...especially at the $5.99 price...it still has stuttering but it's still worth buying...improved graphics, gameplay etc

I can't remember really at this point, but I don't think there was any more backtracking than the original already had. You just have the option now of exploring previous areas for optional things you may have missed.

I suggest you just lookup a review or two to answer most of your questions. For $6 though, I don't think you're risking much on the game if you remotely enjoyed the original. Worst case you can refund it within two hours of playing.
