Dead Space 3 Using The Kinect

Voice commands. Sigh. The best implementation of Kinect outside of dancing and other such physical movement games, has been head tracking in Forza. Everything else is super gimmicky (even headtracking kind of is).

Allow me to imitate the experience of using any game on kinect: Fail. Fail. Fail. Fail.

After actually using the kinect, I discovered that the motion sensing portion was so innacurate that unless you were playing a simple party game, it was going to be fairly useless.

The voice commands seemed to have some potential when I played Mass Effect 3 and Skyrim with them, and it is quite good at detecting what you're saying, but it was really slow. 3 seconds for Skyrim to figure out what dragon shout you were trying to use in the middle of battle can mean death.

One big company (EA) giving a sloppy BJ to another big company (Microsoft)..... User end experience = FAIL!

If you can order the stupid second player around, then good, because the AI on these "dual player" games is about as smart as dog shit. Otherwise, eh, pass.

The real reason this isn't going to take off is because of the high-estrogen levels caused by the incredibly fatty foods the majority of the video game consuming population eats. This in turn gives one an awkward and high voice that even they themselves don't want to hear. Now if you sound like Bruce Campbell sure, hell I would rather watch Bruce play video games with voice commands instead of playing them myself.

Best implementation I can see for this you have one or two assignable special abilities to the buttons or the triggers. But it's limited and to change them you need to pause the game, go into the menu and re-assign them. Being able to "assign 2 fireball" and have it assign a new skill to the 2nd trigger without going through menus would be great, save time and improve the game play. As it is now I believe most of these, if not all, commands are done as fast if not faster on the controller, except for giving the partner items.

Skyrim allowed you to assign weapons and spells by voice command, but even that was limited. You would have to tell the game first which weapon you meant when you said "sword", which spell you meant when you said "fire", and etc.

Now, the dragon shouts were pretty cool. Usually in the Xbox version of Skyrim, you would assign one shout to your Right Bumper (top right shoulder) button. With Kinect, you had access to the entire repetoire when you pressed that button by saying the rune names out. It sounds great on paper, but even with accuracy at 85%, it'll still fail more than once out of every 10 attempts. And even when it works, the system takes several seconds to recognize it, and that feels like an eternity when you're in a big battle.

i have never understood why people want to talk to their computer, smartphone, gadget, whatever when its faster just to press the damn button and be done with it. K.I.S.S. principle here people!

Fact is this should be a headset feature and not listed as kinect. It was a good feature in Socom but that was 11 years ago on the ps2.

It was also done on Unreal Tournament 2004 for the PC. I even had the collector's edition that came with the headset to show off the voice commands system.

I don't see a good reason to talk or wave your arms around when you can just press buttons instead.

I wonder when using buttons/keys will be considered too much work...

It has already come to that point. Non-challenged people praise Dragon Naturally Speaking. They'd much rather talk into a headset than set there fingers on keyboards. So it is already at that point. I foresee a near future when we all look like the humans in Wall-E floating about on recliners.
