Dead Rising 2

quick, but not cheap, load time fix...

Install it on an SSD, load times are really quick now :D

I have the Xbox 360 Dead Rising 2: Case Zero, and the framerate, graphics, and load times were HORRIBLE.

To make this succinct, the PC version fixed all of that, I LOVE THIS GAME!!!

Anyone with a working DR2 here? One of the solutions for people with DR2 problems in Steam is that the deadrising2.exe is only 66kb. I was wondering what size yours is (if its working).

deadrising2.exe 9,918 KB, working.
deadrising2.exe.cat file is 66 kb. Steam is a noob.

My Steam DR2 exe was small before it was decrypted. Also, this game in no way incorporates Steam so after it's decrypted by Steam, which there's no reason it needs to be decrypted since it has been officially released, you don't even need to run Steam to run the game.

I close Steam and just run the game from a shortcut I made from the executable and it doesn't even start up Steam.

Does this game crash often for anyone else? I don't typically get tons of crashes while playing games, I might get an occasional crash but with DR2 I seem to crash often and the crash message will typically reference deadrising2.exe with a violation code that seems to come up for other games in google search. Not at home so I can paste in the crash I get.

How were you abl to get pass by the verification? Steam always says mine's corrupted even though I've reinstalled it several times.

I got past the activation but in regards to what Steam is saying, let me try to explain it.

I'm guessing that after GFWL fails to activate you're then having Steam verify your files and it comes back and says that three files need to be replaced. My guess is that those are three files that GFWL modifies for activation.

The game runs fine (for the most part) for me but if I go and verify my files it will give the same message about three files and I'll have to re-activate through GFWL after it re-downloads those files. Those three files are changed by GFWL and differ from what is on the Steam server so they are replaced and everytime GFWL changes them you'll get that message from verification about them not being correct. I wouldn't worry about that anymore. That is not the problem

As far as Steam goes, I think Steam is fine and doing its job which is getting the game to you. The real problem seems to be with the GFWL anti-piracy activation (SURPRISE, DRM FAILURE). I saw a screen shot posted where the GFWL activation said it couldn't connect to Live to verify or something. At that point I would probably be calling Microsoft/Live because that sounds like a problem they should help you troubleshoot.

edit: Are you behind a firewall/router trying to activate?

Go to #4 or maybe just plug directly into your modem and try to activate.

Installed just fine from Steam for me. My only issue is that I cannot get the game to allow me to play 1920 x 1080 at 60Hz. It only has an option for 19x10 at 29 and 30 Hz, none of which are really 1080p. This is on my second monitor in a dual mon. setup. It is a Westinghouse 37" revision 3 that can play other game at 1080p just fine.

In another game where I had this issue, I simply clicked on the setting that allows me to play in windowed mode and at native resolution, it acts as if it is running at full screen. Anyone have this issue before?

God this thing annoys the piss out of me on the PC. Feels like a bad console port. Horrible controls, total BS save system. Screwy timer for missions. TAB to get map, but then not TAB to get back out? Zombies still attack while you check missions/time? Crazy accurate aim by enemies along with massive hit points? Cartooney/bad graphics, even in cut scenes (which seem to happen about every 5-secs). Ridiculous. GIVE me L4D2 anyday over this.

I take it you never played the original.

I find the keyboard controls pretty good, just aiming a gun with the mouse is a little off.

And lol @ even mentioning L4D in the same sentence as DR.

It's the only frame of reference a lot of us have to work off of.

Excellent read. No surprises here. We all know we're living in a land of afterthought console ports.

This is the part that really gets annoying, though:

However, what the PC version gains in graphical boosts, it loses in additional content. In this respect it's identical to the PS3 game in that there's no sign of any DLC: the Case Zero prologue remains an Xbox 360 exclusive, and the forthcoming Case West add-on - which sees Frank West (and his camera) returning to Dead Rising - will also appear only on the Microsoft platform, in the short term at least.

The controls are exactly the same as the first game. The save system is better than the first but part of how you play the game. Timers have been there since the first and are much better this time around. Zombies are live creatures in this game and horde together to try to kill you .. pausing the game takes away from that tense feeling , they won't wait for you , same as the first. The bosses in the first game were way worse , you have no idea how much of an improvement this second one is. The graphics are part of the art style and overall feel of the game.

The campy nature of the game is part of its charm.

Dude you seriously didn't do any kind of research before buying this game did you? I'm guessing you thought it looked cool in screenshots and just bought it? You were expecting a third person L4D2? This game is campy in its nature and the main attraction is killing zombies .. the story line is pointless and dumb and thats the point. The MP portion is a lot of fun with friends online as well.

How are there so few posts about this thread (especially none in the last month) if this game sold over 2 million copies?

I just finished the game a second time and am playing through a third one atm. Anyone else?

Sold my 360 copy, got it to play on my new PC. Big mistake.

Texture flapping, crossfire doesn't work neither. Totally unplayable.

Tried forcing profiles in RadeonPro, no dice.

Anyone else manage to get this working? 10.10e hotfix here.

i guess i will stick with the xbox 360 version. i have dr1 and case zero on xbox anyways. might as well keep my library consistent

For what its worth, I have a PC copy through Steam (it does have mandatory GFWL) and it works pretty much flawlessly except for lack of support for my X360 controller. I did find a hack (DLL and conf file) that makes it work though, without having to resort to Xpadder or similar rebinding - it now has native support and all the buttons are as they should be. I'm running it at 1920x1080, all the shiny on high (internally, I'm not forcing AA/AF through the CCC), with the sig rig and Catalyst 10.10...d? No issues for performance or quality.

The game itself is fun, though I'm a little annoyed that the DLC isn't well explained. right now there are 4 DLC "outfits" that are supposed to confer certain benefits, but there's no indicator showing they're working. I've also heard that you only need 1 piece from a DLC outfit to get the benefit of that set, but its unconfirmed. I'm also annoyed that Case Zero and Case West aren't available for PC users at current. We deserve to be treated better than second class citizens.

Link? I'm having the same problem, it doesn't recognize my Saitek Cyborg which is basically a 360 controller, works with every other GfWL game and even with the 360.
I think I would actually bother to finish the game if the controller worked.

Does that support XInput and DirectInput or just DirectInput? I'm pretty sure the hack I have only works for XInput controllers (ie. X360 controllers and new 3rd party ones like the Logitech new items. Not sure where Saitek's offerings come).

I uploaded it here...

You'll need 7zip (free, open source) to unzip it. There should be two files inside, a DLL and an ini - drop them in your DR2 directory.

I had zero issues with my wired 360 controller and the pc version of DR2.

My Steam version of the game crashes if I try and use my X-Fi Titanium Pro. It seems to work fine with onboard and usb sound cards. I have the latest drivers, anyone else experience a similar problem?

Sorry... on board sound user only here. Haven't had a dedicated sound card since... 2002?

Unfortunately I can only do stereo with my onboard sound cards optical output. I need the X-FI to do DDL to get 5.1 over optical. My receiver doesn't have analog 5.1 inputs. The game has a dolby digital splash screen but no options to configure it.

There's a bug in the game that can be fixed (Serious Sam folks fixed their XAudio2 problem similar to this); the game won't run at 96kHz sampling rate.

Right-click your speaker icon in the system tray, select Playback Devices, right-click on Speakers for Creative SB X-Fi, select Properties, select Advanced tab, and under Default Format select something that's not 96000Hz; 24bit, 48000Hz will work.

They made a patch for the game but apparently didn't patch that problem.

+1

My 360 pad worked fine (as it has for all games I'd think to use a controller in for the last few years). Unfortunately the controls themselves in DR2 are kinda crap, but I guess that's Capcom for you.

I finally broke down and picked up DR2 when it went half-off on steam (still a bit over-priced, but oh well).

I'm loving the game so far! So much fun to run around and kill zombies with every object imaginable! The controls are a little stiff, and the save system is the most frustrating thing I've seen in a game in quite some time, but the pros of this game out-way the cons by a long shot imo. I can easily see myself putting over a hundred hours into this game, just having fun w/ the awesome zombie grinding, and trying multiple play-throughs to try and get all the objectives completed.

The wired controller works fine, the wireless controller requires the 3rd party driver.

You're loving the game but still feel half off is overpriced?

lol - yeah, I'm cheap like that lately. Too spoiled by insane deals from Steam. I don't buy many games on release-day any more - not when I have dozens of games in my backlog, and I can get them for 75+% off if I wait a year. This is a game I really wanted to play, so I "splurged" on the half-off. ;)

Was anyone able to get constant 60fps on the opening bike level? It always chugs for me when I'm driving towards the zombies.

I'm running 1280x720 0xAA, high details on the rig in my sig.
