Dead Rising 2

PC version is running at what feels like 60fps average, with the rig in sig at 1680x1050 with 2xAA all high. Can't get Fraps running with the game, and PrntScrn button comes up with a blank screenshot.

Capcom hasnt been too bad about their PC ports lately. Cant wait to load this up at home. Hopefully i can pull myself away from F1 2010 long enough to spend quality time.

Capcom learned their lesson with the RE4 port. Everything after that has been great.

Downloading this right now by the way.

I'm hoping this will be a great success and inspire Konami to a bit of rivalry, I want to see an excellent port of Castlevania: Lord of Shadows

Wow, I would LOVE to see more PC lovin' from Konami in a big way.

does it have mouse and keyboard support? If so I'd probably consider getting it. The first one really caught my eye, but I wasn't about to buy an xbox just to play one game.

Just a heads up for users that might get a crash trying to run the game. I had my sound configured for 24bit/96000Hz in Windows/playback device/speaker properties and this caused the game to crash right at start-up. I had to set the sound at 16bit/48000Hz to get it going. Serious Sam remake had a similar issue and they (Croteam) patched it fairly quickly. Fortunately over at capcom-unity.com there's someone from Capcom asking people to report bugs to them via private message so I told them about this problem.

I would love that too but with failures of past games on PC, doubt that will happen.

I still want Metal Gear Solid 3 to be ported.

Oh man I want to play this on my PC, but I feel like my CPU would slow it down. Plus the amount of loading in this game is a bit of a problem. I might put it off until i upgrade in the winter and play this in all of it's glory, that's how much I love dead rising.

If Konami wants to make a lot of easy money, my wallet is right here on the table.

The game does have KBM support. Page 10 of the manual confirms it.

Be interested to see comparison comments between how the KBM feels with this kind of games vs. the controller.

It's not the sort of game that requires precise control, you flail wildly with large objects, a mouse and keyboard don't really offer any additional control, but that's more of a limitation of the game than any specific benefit of the controller or failure of the kb/m.

Does this game have full support for the Xbox 360 controller on the PC? I can't stand playing third person games without it.

I think your CPU will be fine, my 2 year old laptop runs it great on High "zombie detail" and medium shadow quality @ 1680 x 1050 with 2x msaa.

Loading screens are incredibly annoying though, there are several that are completely unnecessary.. but you get used to it I guess.

I am having issues enabling my wireless 360 controller with this game. From googling, it appears to be an issue with pirated/cracked copies of the game. BUT i have a legit copy purchased from Impulse. I have tried the x360CE trick with no luck. Anyone else had this issue?

my wired xbox 360 controller worked right out of the box. plug and play

I'm almost certain I read that wireless is just DOA outright for this for whatever reason.

Downloading it right now through Steam. Can't wait!

Edit: Annnnnnnnd it crashes every time I try to play.

Hey people, the game seems to be unlocked in Steam now. Curse my slow dl speed, at 83%.

I'm glad I pre-loaded my game a couple of days ago when the pre-load option popped up. Awesome of steam to allow that option for us!! :D

Game has issues with using a Wireless 360 pad (with the Wireless receiver for Windows).

Contrary to other reports, it has nothing todo with being from non-retail releases (you have this problem on retail/store bought copies).

It's funny, cause the ingame GFWL will work with the controller (press the guide button to bring up the guide, navigate around with the controls, load profile etc). But the game itself won't recognize the controller.

The only thing you can do, is use an Xbox 360 controller emulator (I know, having to emulate the controller you are actually using, so strange) to get the game to recognize.

The only downside with that, is that it looks like it uses a DX interface to the controller, then emulates Xinput for the game. But the 360 pads only support rumble via Xinput, so you lose rumble support. Not that big of a deal, but on a game like this with chainsaws, lawnmovers, and visceral zombie killing, rumble could be nice.

The guides on how to do it are sadly very shaky:

1. Get Xbox 360 controller emulator (The updated version, older ones are floating around but the newer worked for me) from http://code.google.com/p/x360ce/downloads/list (Released by the group at TocaEdit)

2. All you need is just the executable, it will actually create both the Xinput dll and the ini file itself.
2a.Run it, load the button config (bottom of window) for the 360 wireless receiver.
2b. In the advanced tab, uncheck native mode.
2c. In the force feedback tab, uncheck enable force feedback (again, this emulation method does not support rumble via 360 pad)
2d. Under options tab set "Fake mode" to "compatibility".
3. Save. This should write out an ini file, and the Xinput dll (will ask if you want to create it).

The two files need to be put in your dead rising directory, beside the executable. This will over-ride GFWL controller detection, which means you lose guide button, and ability to navigate the guide, but strangely you get the controller to work in the game.

You will hear a beep, after loading the game, to tell you that the emulation has started. Start button will work at the "press start" screen, but you need to use the mouse to go into the PC options and set the controller to "enabled", to get it to work with the actual game/menus.

This should work long enough for them to release a patch to fix the botched controller detection. It's odd in that it seems that they aren't using the GFW inbuilt controller support, or using it in a strange way, so that the official sources see the controller but the game doesn't. I suspect that it's hardcoded to see the USB controller, and the subtle differences between the wireless and receiver mess it up.

I really want rumble myself, but don't want to miss out playing the game while waiting, so this is a stop gap solution in the mean time.

Hope that helps :)

My wired 360 controller didn't work right away except bringing up gfwl. Downloaded the official drivers. Still didn't work. I checked under the settings and the controller option was disabled. Enabled it and it works now. I don't know why it was disabled by default because the controller was plugged in the whole time.

For those that are CTD when you start the game, try lowering your sound quality in Windows control panel to 16-bit (DVD Quality). After I did this, the game has worked flawlessly.

Dang, didn't know this was coming out real soon. For some strange reason I thought the PC was being pushed back like months after the console versions came out.

I saw that the first game looked interesting but I don't have a console. I was glad that this was coming out to the PC and for $40 looks like a good deal to me. Plus it's in Vegas or a fictional Vegas town! I didn't read up on the game though, looks like it takes place in a big casino.
