Last night I was talking to a forum member about selling him my CPU. I went to go test the CPU to make sure it worked, but I only have one 478 socket mobo. I took out the original CPU and put in the one I was selling. That worked just fine.

Afterwards, I put in the original CPU and the computer wouldn't POST. I tried the other one, and it still wouldn't POST.

Things I tried:
- swapping CPUs
- cleaing CMOS
- checking to see if Artic Silver got on anything
- different video card
- taking out mobo from case and trying to run it
- running w/o CPU
- running with one stick of RAM

Hardware:
2.6C
2.0A
Abit AI7
1g Kingston PC3700 hyperx
Radeon 9500pro
Nvidia Geforce MX 400
Antec 430w True Power

Thanks for the help

Sounds like a bad board to me. Don't know what would have caused this, but it seems like when you were switching the chips out something got damaged. Try bringing the cpus to a local computer store like pc club or fry's electronics and see if they will test the chips for you. Most stores have a test rig that they can fire up to see if your equipment is bad.

Make sure you double check to see if everything is connected.

it happens to me a few times whenever i take out the cpu or do upgrades or whatever

just turn on your computer and everytime it doesnt work, restart

do that a lot and sooner or later, it should start

i m not exactly sure why but it works for me

theres no harm in trying...

Thanks for all the tips.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find a store that can/would test CPU's yesterday.

Fry's doesn't test CPUs
Best Buy doesn't have the equipment to test CPUs
Central Computer charges $30

I have a friend who I think has a socket 478 board, but I wasn't able to get a hold of him. Today I'll try MicroCenter. They should be able to test, if not, they should have an AI7 I can buy.
