I was changing some components on my daughters computer. As it started to boot I noticed one of the dvd drives wasnt working so I touched the plug and it sparked. Every thing lights up and runs but no post. Does this mean we have dead mother board or can we fix I am out of ideas of things to check.

Any ideas

The most likely possibilities are that either the motherboard is dead or the power supply is dead (or both are dead). You will need to test with other components in order to isolate specifically which components are affected. It is also possible that the CPU or RAM died, but in that case your motherboard would give you a beep code indicating which component is damaged (assuming you have a speaker attached to your motherboard or that it has one built in).

Power supply is fine

Would it be worth it buy a new BIOS chip? Every thing seems to work except no post.

It is a A8N5X asus

No...the bios chip isn't your problem if you had sparks flying already. More than likely the board is damaged and you'll have to replace it.

Probably should have nbot tried to reseat the plug while booting, definitely could brick your board. You should be able to pick up a board for cheap as the cost of a new chip will be about 1/2 the cost to replace the board.

Sorry dude, just sold my 939 mobo on eBay, had it sitting around in a box for 2 years.

i have a dfi lan party 4 sli s939 board that i can't decide if i want to sell or not... $50 might make me put it in a box...

I have an Asus A8N-SLI Premium. My dad is still trying to decide if he wants it or not. If he doesn't, I'll be selling it.
