dead 4870?

ok just got my visiontek 4870 today and i turn on my pc and the card comes on loud as hell, but i get no picture on my monitor, i havent delt with doa gpu's b4 is this a good sign its dead?
 
could be a mother board incompatibility issue,have you got the latest bios loaded on your mother board or possible psu under powering the new unit
 
well this is a bit of a problem, its a brand new rig. the mother board is the DFI LT LP X48, so its possible that the MB is messed up. my PSU is a 1k watt. how can i update my bios w/o a graphics card?
 
can you give more details, is the fan spinning? Does it look like the card powers up?
 
yea im hearing a very loud fan, and i see 3 lights on the back of the GPU
 
doesn't the 4870 require 2 6-pin power?

Also, you may need to press F8 when booting, then boot to windows in low res mode (640x480)

did you put the card in the correct PCIEx slot? if you didn't that would cause your problems.
 
w00t, ok i didnt have my MB properly hooked up =s seems to be working now sry for wasting ur time =/

EVERY single time I fiddle with my motherboard I forget to hook up the bloody aux power cable. Then I switch it on and see everything power up, and immediately go dead, and I have that two second churn in my gut as I think "DEAR GOD, I HATE COMPUTERS!!! WHY DO I BOTHE.... oh wait, if forgot to plug the cable back in."
