Does anyone know where you can buy an actual DDR arcade machine. A friend's friend received one for his birthday from his dad....awesome present..I want one :(

Are you serious? I believe those things run for a few thousand dollars. Anyway I'm sorry I don't know of any places to buy a DDR arcade machine, try molesting google for some retailers.

when you think about it, it kind of makes sense.

i spent 1000 on a bowflex that i only used a little bit. If you know your child will use it (and maybe even use it yourself when no one's looking), then a $4000 workout machine isn't that bad. if your child is overweight, and will build self confidence (and lose weight) using it, then it might just reach that visa commercial 'priceless' status.

I'm too self conscious to ever have actually used one, but I've seen videos... looks fun.

I want an Initial D system, but the damn thing is like 20grand used. :(

I've seen people piss away alot more money on a lot more foolish things. Hrm...cars anyone? A DDR machine if properly maintained will retain alot of its value and it will resell for a fair amount.

Also, DDR gives kids exercise. You are giving your child the gift of health. If a parent has the cash and won't fork it out for this kind of reasoning...then they don't deserve to be a parent.

When we have kids we will do two things as parents 1) teach them fun forms of exercise 2) teach them how to cook. It seems that both things above have been lost on the last generation or two.

BTW...DDR rocks,and i'm almost 30 :D

The only way you get exercise is if you use it for a few hours at a time over a long period of time. There's even websites claiming its such a good workout the before pics are from when they are way overweight and the after picks show them having flat stomachs and pecks which isnt going to happen from just jumping around. What you should do is take your kids to dance class and let them dance with other kids so they can have social skills instead of spazzing out infront of a game and not interacting with other human beings. I can jump around for quite awhile but I cant run for along time.

Im not so sure if youve ever actually played the game. Once you get to the higher levels, it is incredibly effective as a workout. During the wrestling season, I played for about 20 minutes every night on the fastest songs. Coupled with running in the morning and a good diet, i stayed somewhere around 5-6% bodyfat. Pre-season i played a little longer and ran a little longer in the morning and dropped 15 lbs in about a month and a half. (167-152). Im skinny to begin with, but that game is a great workout tool. It c ertainly beats the monotany of running.

Buy a bicycle and an mp3 player instead. You may be able to get a girlfriend yet.

The only problem i have with DDR is that its teaching white boys to dance even worse. Bust a DDR move in a club and someone will punch you....seriously....

1. You must have never played DDR beyond beginner/light mode. I'd like to see you do MAX300 a few times in a row. I remember one night burning about 1100 calories in 90 minutes. My legs were on fire and I was soaked almost head to toe with sweat.

2. DDR is very much a social game. It is intended for you to play with others. It works best with out about 4 people giving you a break between each set of three songs. But again...you have never really played it and therefore putting your attitude towards it. Lets see, we have friends over and sit on our collective asses and talk or go down in the basement play DDR and talk/chat/drink.

DDR done half ass will have no real benefit. DDR done for the point of exercise that is fun is one of the best things yet. I do it at home with just some soft-pads on plywood with our projector. Buy the US and japanese versions and you got enough music and patterns to last you along time.

I'd actually go the cheaper route and get the Xbox/PS2 version with some really, really good dancepads. For instance, at our local Fry's Electronics you can buy some sweet metal dance pads for ~$100 each. (I think... not so sure on price.) You can have the same experience for a fraction of the price and it's portable.

Oh, one thing about DDR I should mention is that it is the Karoke of arcades. You either love it or hate it. (I put myself in the "love it" section.) You either get a group of people together to play it and have a great time or you tend to avoid it at all costs.

"Yes! DDRing on stumps, becasue my legs will have been destroyed"

Dude. I remember just opening Afronova...I though i was going to die...my legs gave out halfway through the song, but damn I have nice thighs :D

True. Most DDRers, even though they own they game will mostly go out to arcades to play with friends because its only really fun if people are watching your mad skilz :D

I once had 1500 songs on step mania that a friend gave me....but I didnt know what it was so I deleted it...now Im saaaad :(

DDR 2 person cabs probably go for around $4000 used at least, not to mention you'll also need a lot of space in your house for one.

One thing I don't get though, is why people actually try to dance to it. Just step on the buttons!

Guitar Freaks 10th Mix is more fun though, but I play guitar, so ehhh :D

I know what your talking about and after about 3 months of constant use the plastic coverings start to either 1) shift around and pinch your skin 2) Crack down the center

and seriously if your at home and want to play in your socks they arnt nice on your feet..

this aint gen[m]ay ;)

So can you post them in Genmay? :p

I kid, I kid.

You could always buy those huge honking metal pads, the ones that even have the handrail and whose base is I think 5 inches. It costs over $300 for one though, and it's definitely not very portable.

If you're serious about wanting a full size machine, I would highly reccomend looking into building your own custom Stepmania rig. It would likely save you thousands, with the ability to have many more songs than a real arcade stand-up at.

Theoretically, even if you went all out, and bought 2 Cobalt Fluxes, a computer decent enough to run Stepmania (which you could likely do with spare parts you have laying around) and a Nice sized "Monitor" (A decent sized CRT Telivision would probably not run over a few hundred these days) you'd likely be looking at a tab of less than a thousand bucks, and a killer project to work on over the summer. The only real construstion would be that of a cab for your machine, which most people could easily handle.

Stepmania is easy to set up so that it can function nicely in a situation like that, and besides - who else can say that they built their arcade machine?

...

Realistically though, get a PS2 and a decent pad and you're good to go. :D

That would be AWESOME

I would infact go about it that way :p

But realistically yes the PS2 and a good pad is going to have to do...

But my playing DDR isnt likely to stop over the years so my future house will most likely have its own Arcade room ;) and my goal is to have my very own DDR machine :p

Gen[M]ay and all them isajeeps. Sigh

DDR is the best thing ever ever. And I want a Machine too

I was talking about the [H]'s GenMay. I find the other [M] a cesspool.

seriously, why cant I find Genmay on [H]? did they disable it?

The [H] Genmay is a subscription thing. Kyle used to let you view the forum, but I guess he doesn't let you now.

I'm a lifetime member, paid $15 for it. We discuss weird weird things like how a grilled cheese tastes... :D

A DDR machine would be great to put Tetris on :D You'd get that cool theme song with more bass than you'll ever need. Could you build a cabinet with a TV, a pad, and some speakers?

You have to buy it for like 5$ or something :(

So I just go to the currupt kiddie filled Gen[M]ay

sigh
