DC Vault

Well, I'm glad I just ordered another HDD. I'm not going to be able to do my batch encoding so I need all the space I can get. If I swap over the quad for a day to run the encodes I'll lose even more ground.

I hope one of the the two procs I have incoming show up today. Sadly it will be the celeron 1200 for the WHS box (It will still get used for ABC) The Q6600 got shipped out today (5 days after I paid) Can't complain, got it for $100 :D

I am working on POEM with my two duals and genlife with my i7.

Apparently, my i7 does not like the POEM wu's. It would shut down like every 2 hours. So far with genlife its been fine. Anyone else having any problems with an i7 + POEM? (Im running win7 build 7100)

I haven't seen any problems with Poem on my i7 with Vista Ultimate x64. I'm also running it on Win7 build 7100 with a Phenom II, and no problems there either. I haven't monitored it very closely, though. What do you mean by "shut down"?

Just got back from MicroCenter with a Q9550 E0 that will go in a Shuttle. I keep wanting to build a really tiny PC, and it keeps going wrong. First I built a microATX system, but that's in a Qmicra V2E case because I wanted something big enough for a TRUE heatsink on the i7. This time I wanted a mini-ITX, but I went with the Shuttle because the case is long enough to hold a GTX 285. I'm going to try to crunch on it, so hopefully I don't fry the PSU.

Let me know what you come up with for overclock on the Q9550 E0.
I just upgraded a E8400 with an Q9550 E0 and have it up to 3.7ghz stable so far.

I don't know if I want to push it past 3.4GHz, considering the small case and limited power, but I will be watercooling it, so I'll see. What RAM do you have in your box?

I'd say we have a pretty good battle going right now. Scores are pretty close for today. You should pull away though after adding that Quad. :( Might have to fire up the laptop to see if I can keep pace. I have another 8.5K to make up.

Nice score on the Quad. $100 is a steal. :)

We will see when I can fire it up. Your gaining on me now.....

This is a good race.

Thanks for the info, Razor. The cooling on that mobo is sick!

Here's the RAM I ordered: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231219

I liked the fast timings at low voltage, since I'm worried about cooling in this small case. I've read that you can go past 800MHz if you increase the timings, so I might try that. I really just need to see how it all runs before I start to push it.

SazanEyes that memory should do very nice and have good timings and low heat.
Even at 800mhz memory that puts your Q9550 at 3.4ghz so that will be a nice match.
Let me know how the shuttle works out and don't forget that we like pictures.:)

Hopefully I'll get all the parts this week, and I'll definitely post pictures. I never got around to doing a build thread for my last PC, but I did upload a few pics to my Photobucket album.

I've been working on BOINC milestones, so I'm reposting my badge. My teamrank is still #3, though, and I don't think I'm catching up with the top 2.

Sazan - Nice work on the GPUGRID! Thats some good RAC.

I gave up on Aqua and put everything back on GPUGRID. The Aqua admins seem to change their mind regularly, but last I read it seemed like they were giving up on CUDA and focusing on CPU work. Of course the adjusted GPU points sucked, which is why all the CUDA users left, which is why the CUDA work wasn't being completed on time.

I got a SoB sieve factor today, but the stats haven't been updated since Friday. Hopefully it's worth some points. If I don't get some points soon, I'll give up and switch to GIMPS or something.

Since Genlife is running out of work, my i7 box is now running cosmology and my 2 duals are running POEM.

Once POEM is done I am going to focus on on Cosmology.

If only I had that kind of GPU power like you Sazan, all I have is a lonely 8800gts 640mb.

I tried to mix in some Cosmology a couple days ago, but damn those units are memory hungry (200MB+ each). But I guess it gives me incentive to finally get around to finally bumping up the memory on this box. :D

metallicafan, Quad showed up today. Wife's boxen got an upgrade (that sounds dirty) and now I'm installing win 7 on a box with her old E2140.

It's going to be nice to remote into her computer and encode files that are stored on the WHS rig......

What ever should I do with all this power in my boxen?

They are very memory hungry, however I have 6GBs in my i7 box so I am pretty good. I might in the future get 12GBs, god I love 64bit. :p

I dont suppose that you will be letting it sit idle? :D

Well we HAD a pretty good race going. Now that you have that other Quad, me thinks I will start to fall behind. I'll see what I can cook up tomorrow. I might be able to put together one more run.

I do know one thing. As soon as we hit 1 million points as a team we are going to start passing a bunch of teams.

EDIT: Kendrak - How many pending points do you have now? Not sure if Im just getting some bad luck on quorums or what but I've got nearly 11K pending. Come on people! Finish your WUs!

I've got about 7800 points pending. Not as much as you.... but dang that is a bunch of points.

After this race the 2 quads will be going back to F@H. With them I think I can break back into the top 20 ppd list.

That still leaves 3 OC-ed E2160 that can but put where the DC commandos needs them.

Remember, the rest of the world just can't be as [H]ard as us! :D

Well I guess thats true. :D

Hmm . . . Well I guess that is just a natural progression of pending points then. I was going to be worried if you were still at like 3K. :)

Now to see if I can find any more "D" before I start falling back any further.

I'm wrapping up my Nqueens push, so I throw some stuff on Malaria in addition to POEM. I also want to put some more cores back on W@H, since the Cows seem to be ramping up again.

The factor I found yesterday will move us up two spots in SoB sieve, and I submitted another SoB factor today, so hopefully it's also worth decent points. Sieving is kind of like playing the lottery, you never know what you're going to get as far as points. :D There's one more easy overtake and then the climb gets really steep.

The Shuttle should arrive on Friday. Not sure what my weekend plans are yet, though, so not sure when I'll get it running.

I've stopped running POEM for now and moved most of my BOINC resources to Malaria, just in case. There are tons of teams that will be easy to overtake, since most other teams are not active right now.

Well, I appears that I'm never going to see my full RAC on Milkyway - came home from work today, and it appears that my dear wife logged into her XP account, causing BOINC to error out all day. For those curious, there appears to be a limit of 3,636 WU/day, which I apparently hit today. So now I can't even start more work until the end of their day, whenever that is...

Damn, and I thought once my daughter was back in school & the wife back to work, I could make up some ground and take SazanEyes, but at this rate, there's no way in hell that's gonna happen!

On the POEM front, it looks like we'll take the next 7 easily in the next couple days, but the 12 or so after that to get over 9K are going to be slow going... (Of course, if Malaria is coming back, the more we have there, the better, too! Not enough "D"...:() I think we're getting to the point where we're looking at month long raids on projects instead of the old weekend hit!

I moved two of my GPU's from Milkyway and have them on another project so production there will decrease slightly.;)

I assume you're referring to Collatz. I tried it on my NVIDIA cards and it worked most of the time but I also got a bunch of driver errors (similar to running Milkyway on new ATI drivers). Let me know if they get the kinks worked out, or if it looks like it will be added to DC Vault soon.

Okay I have a question to all you [H]Commandos out there. :)

I am leaving for college next thrusday (RIT for Applied Networking and System Administration), I am going to leave my 2 duals in the basement running at my house. What would be the best project for me to run on the two duals that would be good for long term? I was thinking something Boinc for stability, or like Seventeen or Bust which runs much longer projects.

Suggestions?

I'm thinking Climate Prediction. Long WU, stable client, and we could use some help there, it just takes forever.

Plus I'm not sure how active we are in CPDN, but it seems like we keep losing a position every couple weeks but never gain one.

If it were me, I would go with multiple BOINC projects for some redundancy. I would install BOINC on both boxen and then start two projects on each one. It will be like having 2 cores on two different projects but if you start both projects on both machines then if one project runs out of work your cores dont go idle. ;)

Since the Biological and Medical Science category is our weakest by rank it might not hurt to work on a couple of those projects. Maybe say Docking and POEM. Or maybe one we dont have 9K in yet. Like POEM and yoyo.

Good luck with classes man. :)

Why do I have the feeling that my lead and possible win of our race is a short term joy before I get mowed.

Hahaha. :D No worries. I havent ordered a single part yet. You will be to 350K before I even get around to ordering anything. Maybe we will have to have another challenge once I purchase my first Quad.

EDIT: There is another 14 teams we will overtake in the next 9 days at our current pace. :)

Does this have any impact on our current rank? Or just get us a bit closer to 10?
This will increase the gap between our team (DC-Vault position 11) and team AnandTech (position 10) but will also increase the gap between us and team Crunchers Inc (position 12).
So we have a little more catching up to do to catch team 10 but put more distance on the team trying to catch us.
But we will not change our current DC-Vault rank on EulerNet's removal.

I hate to see this project go after all the time tr0ach and I put into it to get it to the position that we have in it, but there is no reason in keeping it in the DC-Vault or participate in it if they will no longer update there stats to reflect our work.

Well I just took my own advise and installed climate prediction on my E2140 in my WHS box.

Chances are I'll forget about it and 3 months later be shocked at all the points.
