DC Vault

I'm finally back from the mountains, so I get to start crunching again wewt. Had to turn off my main computer for 4 days since I was out of town. Still crunching docking units here and GPUGrid.

Back from the Mountains? Where'd you go? Im headed to Yellowstone later this summer. :)

If anyone needs a hard drive looks like Amazon has a good deal on 750GB WD drives right now. I think I might snag one of these since its a little cheaper than a 1TB drive. then I'll have a little extra cash to spend on a UPS.

not to bad of a price.. i payed 69 bucks at fry's for my new 750's.. threw 3 more into my file server.. rather have the 1TB drives but wasnt willing to pay 100 bucks for them..

We stayed just outside of Asheville in this place called "Bat Cave"

We generally spend 4 or so days in the Blue Ridge every year. Last year I spent a week in Utah hiking Mount Timpanogos in the Wasatch range and doing some hiking down in the north rim of the grand canyon.

Hmm it seems I cannot upload finished work to GPUGrid atm, I get an error saying "Error reported by file upload server: Server is out of disk space"

That is kind of... interesting I suppose. NEED MOAR TERABYTEZZZ

They fixed the problem and it should be working now.

FYI, dnet seems to have finally got a new beta GPU client out for CUDA drivers for RC5-72. I fired it up first thing this morning on my 8600GT, and I'll see how it does when I get home from work...

I got it running on my 8800GTS now since its really all its good for. :)

tr0ach @ metallicafan what ATI drivers you guys using on what card for Milkway?
What do you have your <cmdline></cmdline> set to?
Just picked up a 4870 1gb and trying to figure out what the best cmdline settings are.

The 9.1 CC drivers work without any problems on my 4830 card with Vista 32bit. I tried the 9.6 drivers but I was having all kinds of trouble. After a little test run I settled at running 4 wu's at once. I get the best output that way. You might be able to squeeze one or two more at a time on a 4870 before it starts to slow.

I get about 50K a day out of one 4830 running this way.

I hear you - my one 8600GT is doing more RC5 work than my e2160 @3.2 AND my q6600 at 2.4 combined... One 620MHz GPU doing 30% more work than 16GHz of CPU cores is pretty damn impressive in my book! :D I can't stand to have a GPU doing nothing, no matter how old it is...

I have tried the 8.12s, 9.1 and 9.2 drivers on XP and Vista with my 4850 and the only ones that I can keep working consistently without crashing are the 8.12s (the original driver the GPU app was designed for IIRC). I use the 8.12s and i usually run 3 WUs at a time. I have heard people say that one at a time works best but that only uses about 75% of my GPU core. I dont have any firm results to back this up but 3 WUs at a time seems to work best for me. I would highly recommend the 8.12 drivers if you dont want to spend a ton of time babysitting, fighting drivers, and testing configs.;) let us know how it goes.

I had to take my 4850 offline to do a reformat but I'll be bringing it back online this weekend when I get a little time to reconfigure. Bring the Rain! :D

I found a second SoB sieve factor in the current range and it was worth some points, so I'm finally on the board. I wonder how the top teams put up the big points, but I guess they just devote more horsepower to the problem. I also contributed some SoB points.

BTW, "crimson tide2" rejoined our W@H team yesterday, which puts us within striking distance of DPC. We might be able to take them with a quick push.. Crimson could leave again, but if we overtake the Cows we might demoralize them enough to get them to stop crunching so we can build up a lead. :D

It is I, tr0ach, Rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated ;)
Sorry for not responding lately but i have 4 tweenagers staying for the summer, and have been getting like 4 hours of sleep a day.

@ razor, I have run everything from 8.612 to 9.5, all pretty much the same, but for some reason I'm running 8.612 right now, but they
just started crashing on me so back to 9.5 which i think worked well, mind you copy and rename the .dll files. I too have no evidence
of performance variations. This is what I've worked my way down to f6 w0.2 n4, which was working fine.

Currently I am trying to get everything to 25k in boinc while running 1 quad non-boinc. Should anyone want help somewhere just holler.

Current fleet: 1x i7 920, 2x PhenomII 940's, 2x PhenomII 810's, 2x gtx260core216's, 1x hd4850, (1x 9800gtx, 1x gtx250), (1x 9800gt, 1x8800gt)

Thanks metallicafan and tr0ach for the info.
I now have somewhere to start in my fine tuning with your help.
I tried the 9.6 drivers but they didn't work so I'm running the 9.5 drivers and they seem to be pretty good for MilkyWay.
I'll see if I can help make some points for us.

Well my computers will be going down for a bit because I am going on vacation. I'll be back next sunday so not too much downtime. Keep up the good work guys while I am gone! :)

stargazer7, Charland & Tyler get a great big shout out from me for all the work there doing !
Very nice to see some new blood racking up the points all in the name of the mighty [H]orde !
Welcome aboard to you three and all the other new comers that are flocking to our growing ranks.
Top ten DC-Vault teams need to watch out because we are coming [H]ard.

Docking@Home is up go 48th place now and we now have the 16th ranked PPD. Good job I think we hopped 12 places in just over a week? Anyways I got my Phenom II quad core back up and running by my friend insists on sucking nuts at overclocking so he's been erroring through like 40 WU's over the last day. I got 5 days worth of docking work on another Phenom II tri-core for it to roll through before it switches over to WCG and i'm about to get docking going 24/7 on a Phenom II dualcore, also get GPUGrid running on a 9800gt on that Phen II dual core.

I just noticed that we jumped ahead of the Dutch Power Cows in W@home. Nice going Commandos! We have been getting some good DC Vault points as of late. Less than 5K behind the crunchers. Keep up the good work!

Looks like we are 65th over in Aqua. Doubling our points would get us close to the top 40. Despite the debate with the project I might throw my Nvidia card on this when I get home tonight. For a few days at least. :)

We got two new members to our team who pushed us over the top. I'm going to throw some more resources on W@H today to increase our lead. I don't want to lose those points.

were now less then 1000 points out of 11th place since they added aqua@home..

Actually we are just OVER a thousand points out of 11th. :p But yeah a nice point jump. Nice points as of late guys. Really making some progress here.

On a bad note it seems that my internet is down at my house, and I guess they cant send a technician out until tomorrow afternoon. So Im down a couple CPUS and a GPU until then. :( First time in about 7 years I've ever had a problem with my ISP.

My SQL Server Vault tracker has been running for a while now. When I updated it today to add in Aqua, I decided to create a quick chart:

Not too bad. We definitely seem to be growing faster than most other teams in the top 20. There's a lot of climbing ahead, though.

Great job on the chart SazanEyes.
icon_cool.gif

That really helps visualize our movement relative to the others.
Thanks for that.

We're still climbing because they have years of a head start on us. They should all be very afraid. :D

SHA Collision was also removed from the DC-Vault due to lack of steady work.

Bummer. We had a good position in Sha-1. :(

On a good note - It looks like we made it to 9K in Docking@home. Nice job guys! A big thanks to all that crunched some Docking WUs inlcuding Jathanis, 03grandam, Capt. Napalm, Eric, Sazan, Shlomo and probably a few others I might have over looked.

I'll probably throw a couple boxen on ABC now and maybe one on Enigma again.

Yeah I just swapped my box over to ABC and i'm going to put my Phenom II dual core on aqua and keep the quad on WCG. I have a tricore finishing a couple days worth of docking units then switching over to WCG.

so anyone running aqua? im wondering how long the WU's take.. i dont want to add it to my boinc client.. then find out the WU's are 30 hours long then i get stuck with all these geneticlife WU's i cant finish while running aqua..

Aqua WUs are gigantic. Don't run it if you want quick satisfaction. The CUDA units are running for over 100 hours on my 8800GS cards, and the CPU WUs are typically just as big.

ok.. guess i wont be running aqua then.. thanks for the info.

yay.. i finally found something my athlon xp 2400+ laptop can run without overheating for the summer.. got EON running on it right now.. temp climbs up to 62C but by the time it hits that the projects done so the temp falls back to 41C then works it way back up slowly..

Nice job, Razor. Are you running the standard SoB/PSP sieve? I haven't had much luck so far in finding factors worth points, but I'm still trying.

We're only 10 points behind Crunchers in math. We'll soon be top 10 in a category! We're actually really close to overtaking in a lot of categories, and we're only 239 points behind Crunchers overall.

I'm going to keep pushing on W@H until we hit 350K as a team. I think that will give us enough cushion that I can switch back to BOINC for a while. At some point I have to shut down my microATX box to install a card reader and finish sleeving the cables.

ill keep running W@H on my x2 6400+ because its the only project that makes that pos processor worth running still..

Yeah I'm using 1.8.9 sr2sieve with combined dat file.
http://www.geocities.com/g_w_reynolds/sr2sieve/
http://www.psp-project.de/test/sievecomb.zip
I'm doing 3x 500G ranges at a time which take about 2 days to complete.
I'm going to keep hitting this [H]ard for a while.

arg i hate eon.. keeps running out of projects.. driving me nuts..

ok got the eon client controller working finally.. doing 20 clients with 15 of them crunching..already done 750 WU's in a little over 2 hours.. it says im avging 39 seconds of cpu time per WU, 162 seconds elapsed time per WU.. only thing i dont know is if its actually in seconds or milliseconds..
