DC Vault

I'm in the same boat - my "helpful" wife put the cover back on the side of my quad box's case, and core 0's temp on my Quad shot up from 62 to 79C - thanks also in part to the 108F temps here in the valley the last two days... AC works great downstairs, but not so good upstairs (ambient room temps were around 84-85F when I got home from work yesterday)

Still trying to finish off the SoB Sieve and working on SoB trying to hold of sirmonkey

I think by the end of this week I will be adding moar D! Hopefully a new i7 rig! :)

I was thinking of an i7 build as well. I hear microcenter has a good deal on the 920's right now ($199 I believe). But you can only get the deal in the B&M store, not online. Too bad I dont have any microcenters around here. :(

yeah its been in the high 100's here with wind.. which sucks even more.. rather have 115F and no wind.. the wind makes your skin feel like its melting off..

what ya really do to keep the upstairs cooler.. when you have the AC on.. open a couple windows just a little bit.. as it cools the downstairs.. it will force the hot air up and out the windows.. and if you have a fan upstairs.. set it to reversed.. that should help as well..

he he i have a Fry's right down the road from me metallicafan.. sucks for you :p

I just started a third sieve range. Haven't found anything yet, but if the probabilities are correct, there should be one in this range.

Finally finished all my Aqua jobs so I've moved on to GPUGRID, and I'm trying to make progress in a few other BOINC projects, including Docking.

Which one? I always hit the one in Fremont off of 680 on the south side of the Sunol Grade when I'm going to visit friends in Sunnyvale...

Just installed my 9800gtx into my pc and my GPUGrid times have gone down 4 hours per WU. SCORE!

Can't wait to get my phen II sys up and running with the 9800gt, should provide nice gains to docking and gpugrid

Edit: It appears i'm doing GPUGrid units in like 9 hours instead of 18 hours now... holy crap this 9800gtx is a beast

Newegg just got some Asus 9600GSO 384MB back in stock for $55 - $20 MIR, but you have to register AND the rebate comes as a Citibank prepaid Visa card  I was thinking that it would be great to replace my existing 8600 in my home rig with one for GPU Grid, but I hate the registration required MIRs, and think I should hold out for something closer to the 260 core 216 around Black Friday - hoping for one under $99 by then! :D

been screwing around with stuff the last hour or so.. and what i relized was that my phenom II 940 temps are odd.. as long as i preset something to tell it to use the exact cores.. the temps run 3-4C cooler.. but when the programs set to use any of the 4 cores the temps go insane.. lately ive been running only 3 workers on the p95 SoB client and my temps have been in the 56-58C range.. but the 3rd worker was bouncing around between core 2 and core 3.. when i manually set prime95 affinity in the task manager to only use core0 1 and 2 my temps dropped to 53C

Docking is looking pretty good atm, we're 19th in PPD but only 59th in total points. If we can get a few more thousand PPD we can make a serious push into docking and hit the top 40 in no time flat. We'll need roughly 450,000 points to hit 40th and we're sitting at 167,000 atm doing nearly 4k PPD

ill jump onto docking again tonight.. running this sob p95 client is killing my temps.. i dont get anywhere near the same temps running BOINC projects.. so i think im headed back to boinc..

Yeah I just put my e6300 back to 2.87ghz from stock. (i'm on stock air for the time being until I finish up my case mods, no room to put my watercooling on yet cause my pc is sitting on a mobo box haha) And its providing noticable gains in docking. Hopefully i'll pull 400+ BOINC pernts a day. I about had a heart-attack last night when I saw that I could do 2.8 stable on stock volts. Man e6300's are beautiful chips

I've been slowly switching machines over from Enigma to Docking. I need to go home and reformat my Windows 7 beta machine. The beta expired so it now does a shutdown every 2 hours. Time for the RC I guess. As soon as I get the OS reinstalled I'll put that on Docking as well.

I think it will take a while to get to 450K with only 4K PPD. :D But we should be able to crack 9K Vault points in a few more days. :)

Put 3 or 4 quad cores on it though and it'll fly by hahaha

you dont need to uninstall it.. you can just update the beta to the RC1..

ok im now running docking on all 4 cores and only hitting 54C so SOB can kiss my ass now.. :p

SIMAPS started again.. grab the WU's while you can..

Project status
Calculation of SIMAP updates is currently running.
The current workunits calculate the similarities and domains of approx. 400.000 new sequences from public databases imported in June 2009.
After these calculations are finished, next workunits are expected around August 1st.

well running docking on 4 cores seems to have failed me now.. the cpu temps are fine.. but for some reason its causing my pwm/mosfets to fail andmaking my system bsod about every 2 hours.. still trying to find out why.. since i paused docking and turned sob on and pushed my cpu up to 60C for almost 5 hours with no issues.. the voltages arent flucuating or anything so im at a loss to how a single distributing program could cause an excess power draw on my pwm/mosfets even though the cores running 5-6C cooler at full load then running sob..

thats mother effing bullshit.. there is no god damn way we went through 400k WU's in SIMAP in less then 48 hours..

Project status
The project has currently no work (see below).
The similarity matrix of the SIMAP project is currently up to date. All workunits from the last calculation period are distributed, thanks to all users for chrunchig them.
The calculation of new simap workunits containing the novel proteins from July 2009 (simap app) and their domains (hmmer app) will start around August 1st.

WU's started going out around 1 am PST july 2nd.. and they were out of work units by 8 pm PST july 3rd.. i swear to god SIMAP is irritating the hell out of me..

I'm sure it's people filling their queues with as much work as possible as soon as it's available.

BTW, I've been getting a lot of Lattice work the past couple days, and it seems pretty steady. I actually had to kill a few tasks on my laptop because they wouldn't finish before the deadline. They seem to only give you 5 days to crunch the work, which is a problem with slower machines, so beware if you want to grab a lot of WUs.

you are limited to 30 WU's per boinc client per day on SIMAP.. i dont see how it could go from taking 2 weeks to complete 400k WU's 4 months ago.. to only a day and half now.. but what ever..

Well I got my Windows 7 box back up. I tried to do an upgrade but it told me that you cant upgrade from 7 beta to 7 RC. So i wiped it clean and started over. Got it back up on Docking now. Looks like we are set to overtake another half dozen teams or so this week in Docking at our current output. Go Horde go.

I havent heard from alan or nomad for awhile. You guys still around? Drop in and say hi if so!

The DC-Vault is holding a vote on the Acceptance of Commercial projects in the vault.
This vote has been spurred on by the debate over if Aqua should be included in the DC-Vault.

In with a No vote...

Oh, and i like forums that allow you to mod your tag right away, not make you post 5 bazillion times to get a different preassigned tag! :D

im going to hold my vote specificly on aqua since i know absolutely nothing about it.. nor run it.. so who ever runs it.. its your choice..

Well, it looks like we would do pretty well in Vault points if Aqua were included, since our team is #55 out of 600 or so teams right now. However, I don't know if I really like the project or not. It's gotten better recently, but the points are still a little wacky. Right now the voting is split. Any suggestions? I'm leaning toward YES.

Unless Aqua pays me I don't want any part of for-profit research. I hate to think of them making a dime off of my electricity bill and computer hardware that I payed for.

I guess it's safe to say where the [H]orde stands on the issue after reading through that thread. :D

Good to hear from you alan. I would have to agree with you guys on the Aqua debate. If they are using the processing power to develop a project that they are going to sell then I dont think it should be in the Vault. What Razor said about the results being public domain is a great point. Thanks for being the voice of the Horde guys. Anyone around here think that Aqua should be added? Just wondering how the rest of the Commandos feel.

Keep up the good work guys!

I'm not only against it being in the vault, I'm against it all together. Like I said in the thread at the Vault, the second that they're taking in $$$ from the data, it becomes a business and we should be looking at it that way. And I don't work for free.

Ok. Power just blinked for the second time this evening here, bringing down my computers both times. So much for the nice clean reformats I just did over the weekend.

Anyone have any UPS suggestions? I only have a couple of AMD dual core units. I dont want to spend too much $$$ as I would like to buy a TB drive too. Maybe this one?

what the hell.. you already corrupted both windows installs just from the power going out? what the heck are you doing to your machines.. ive had xp installed on this hard drive for 4 years.. its been in 6 different computers.. and 100's of power outtages..

ups wise it depends on how long you want the system running and how long the avg power outtages or.. if you want your systems running full load the entire time.. then you need a huge ass ups.. but most software will allow windows to accept the ups as a battery so that in BOINC you can select to not run projects while on battery.. and it will last much longer..

with that ups you are looking at about 500w power draw lasting between 4-6 minutes tops.. the 810w version can do 500w for 7 minutes.. also you have to remember its power draw from the wall not the draw from the psu from the hardware.. so depending on efficiency if your system is doing 350w internally you are talking roughly 450-550w from the wall.. so you have to make sure you know exactly how much power the systems you will be running off the ups take.. then from there figure out which ups will work for you.. i currently use a 2000w ups for 3 computers.. and it will last 20 minutes with all the systems at full load.. bought it back during the wonderful rolling black outs of california..

yeah like i said in the other thread.. if you pay me.. then im all for it.. but if you arent.. then go find some other lame ass Guinea pig to do the work..

which is why i like majestic 12.. if they ever decide to take the search engine public and make a profit off it.. everyone thats worked on the project gets a portion of the shares.. i think its like 2% of the shares or something cant remember exactly.. but who cares.. atleast its something..

Hahaha. Nope no corruption of the OS's luckily. Just a little sarcasm. :D Although I was isntalling Office 2007 SP2 on one of the machines but luckily I think the install had finished before the power blinked.

Yeah I wouldnt need the UPS to run on battery for very long. The longest our power has been out since I've lived at my current place is about 2 seconds. But it does blink from time to time. In the 8 months I have lived there i bet the power has blinked 4 - 6 times that I know of. So I would just need the UPS to keep my computers up for a few seconds.

Thanks for the suggestion Sazan. We use APC here at work too. I'll take a look at their line as well.

I'm finally back from the mountains, so I get to start crunching again wewt. Had to turn off my main computer for 4 days since I was out of town. Still crunching docking units here and GPUGrid.

I found my first SoB sieve factor, but it's in the excluded range so no points. :(
I also started running SoB just to get some points under my name. I notice it takes advantage of hyperthreading on the i7, which is nice.

Yeah i just finished a 1000G and found nothing. I gonna stick with the regular client since I dislike the point system.
