DC Vault

I just did a bunch of ufluid, they were between 30000 and 60000 seconds, had them resetting and some with compute errors. They also don't appear to have checkpointing, as a machine reboot trashed some tasks a 33hrs. but there's nothing that long in my task list.
I haven't had time to watch them that closely though.

yup.. thats exactly why i will no longer run ufluid..

The non DC-Vault project Ramsey @ Home has work available.
The progress bar may run backwards at times and may go over %100 but they are working fine.
The Admin at Ramsey is still trying to fix that glitch.
Work units should take from 1-2 hours each.

There has been talk that in the future Ramsey may be a DC-Vault addition.

Ramsey also says there's a CUDA app on the way.

Although I still worry about a project who's sole admin will shut it all down and go hitchhiking for 2 months on a whim. :D

SazanEyes did your Ufluid units restart at about 35% a couple time then finish?
How long did your last Ufluid units take?

I honestly haven't been paying attention. One of my boxes is headless (the F@H box) so I don't monitor it very closely. Here are my boxes:
http://www.ufluids.net/results.php?hostid=101279
http://www.ufluids.net/results.php?hostid=100856

I haven't seen any errors. The units take a while to run, but I noticed that I have a bunch of points pending, so I'm making better progress than I thought.

Sazan - How long do you figure it would take us to double our points in Wieferich@Home? It looks like doubling our points would give us a 1500 point boost or so. I want to try to hit 9K Vault Points in Enigma but then I could dump about 10 CPU cores at it. ;)

I estimate W@H is about 150 PPD per 3GHz core. To get another 90,000 points, if we had 10 cores, it would take 2 months, which is not too bad (assuming other projects don't slip). That tracks with the Free-DC stats which say it's 235-264 days to overtake the next two teams. I'm currently running only two 3.2GHz cores, so if we multiply the output by five, it cuts the time to less than 2 months.

However, W@H points are kinda weird, and points granted change from week to week using some formula I never fully understood. I believe the points are designed to remain relatively constant over time, which means that as computers get more powerful, the points per WU go down, based on the total amount of units processed in the previous week (or something). That means to get maximum points it would be better to run as many cores as possible for a single week, rather than a couple cores over time. In our case with only a couple people, it probably doesn't matter, but the issue came up when Ars was challenging another team and they didn't want the points to adjust in the middle of the contest.

Working on Wieferich, is it now required to finish the second slower part (blue bar graph) in order to get credit for the top faster working unit (green bar graph)?
The reason I ask is that I completed 1x4cores of the top unit but Wieferich still doesn't show them as complete and didn't award any points for them.
It didn't use to be that way.

In fact it only shows I have 3 units assigned to me but if you check each of my cores you can see that each core has a different work unit.

Hmmm . . . Its been a while since I last ran W@home but it used to grab a second green WU as soon as the first one was done. Most of the time I could almost do two green WUs to a single Blue WU. Maybe I'll fire one box up tomorrow and see what happens. Anyone up for an all out week long W@home Raid maybe starting next week? I want to gain a little more ground in Enigma.

Lets see here 150 points per core per day x 20 cores would be about 3000 PPD. 3000 x 7 = 21,000
I guess if we could dedicate 20 cores for a week we could do some serous catching up.

EDIT: Only a few more spots to go before we catch Crunchers in ABC@home as well. :)

im for it or any other project we decide to do.. just let me know..

I don't think so, but I've never tracked the stats that closely. It might just take a while to show up. Recently I've noticed that occasionally it will have trouble grabbing another green WU after finishing, but if you close and restart W@H it usually fixes itself.

In fact it only shows I have 3 units assigned to me but if you check each of my cores you can see that each core has a different work unit.

I'm pretty sure it only shows 3 at most, no matter how many you have running.

Thanks everyone for the input.
I'll try to run another full set tomorrow and see if it gives me any credit.
First I have to finish these SoB Sieves that should be done in the morning.

Congratulations to tr0ach on his first 1 million GPUGRID points !!
Nice job.

I just moved on to ABC for my next big push, so I've got 6-8 cores thrown at it for my next 6000 pernts or so...

To have Boinc report results on every work unit completion you will need to:
Create a cc_config.txt file
Edit and save the cc_config.txt and past these commands into it:
<cc_config>
<options>
<report_results_immediately>1</report_results_immediately>
</options>
</cc_config>

Rename the cc_config.txt to cc_config.xml
Vista users put your cc_config.xml in your C:\ProgramData\BOINC directory where the projects folder and other .xml files are.
XP users put your cc_config.xml in your C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Boinc directory where the projects folder and other .xml files are.
Start Boinc or without restarting Boinc you can choose the 'Advanced' tab then choose 'Read config file'

After a work unit is done Boinc will report the work immediately unless it's waiting on a mandatory deferred communication.

Too bad they had to remove our lowest scoring project in the Misc section. :D:D Looks like we are now only 10K back of the Crunchers.

Keep crunching Commandos! :)

time for me to start on Wieferich just to see what kinda points i can get with it.. since the last time i ran it was on a slow arse pentium M 1.7ghz laptop..

ok need some help here people that run Wieferich.. i have the client sup to run 4 instances.. but 2 of them are stuck on yellow while the other 2 are running.. i tried looking in their forum but i cant find anything with the same problem..

nvm.. i ended up having to reinstall it.. my screw up for not just uninstalling an older version and installing the new one.. oh well..

I am going to do some W@H as well. I have added 2 cores to it. Well see how it goes and I may add 2 more.

I see you got listed twice on the W@H team.
If you want Eric tell me which one your going to use and I can remove the other one.
By the way founders of teams can do that in Boinc projects also, so if anyone ever gets listed twice and want one user account removed just let the team founder know.

Please delete EricE. I had it from along time ago. I created a new name because I though I did not have one. Thanks! :)

I'll be bringing another 4-6 cores to W@H tomorrow. ;) We ought to be able to close that gap fairly quickly.

i just threw my laptop on there.. the T5750 2ghz c2d.. but its sluggish on W@H.. avging 600-900 primes a second..

You guys probably have already found this but just in case you havent here is a little tip for W@Home. If you right click on the icon in the system tray and go to Calculation and then Memory use you can select the High option for allegedly faster performance. Now I dont have any numbers to prove that it actually goes faster but I figure it cant hurt. :D

I switched 4 cores over. Might switch another dual core over later tonight.

Well I have 4 cores on W@H. I did what you said metallicafan and it seems to help out. :)

I am comming for you sirmonkey! haha.

Once we gain some points in W@H any want to help me make a push for SoB? Maybe next weekend or the following after that?

ive tried everything from the highest setting to the lowest.. it has made 0 difference.. from what i can tell setting the memory higher takes your hard drive out of the bottleneck loop.. so say if you are using an older IDE drive to run W@H.. but my numbers have been the same.. anywhere from 1400-1650 on my phenom II 940 @ 3.5ghz.. though my xp-m 2400+ laptop is kickin some arse doing between 500-700 PPS.. my c2d T5750 2ghz is only doing 600-900 PPS per core but mostly avging 600ish PPS.. so i guess i finally found something that is worth running on my 5 year old 2400+ :p

I had to pull off W@H to get some points in some of the projects I feel may be added to the DC-Vault soon and still trying to finish off some PSP Proth units.

I think its about time to add another system here, so many things to do and not enough computers.

My systems will need to be busy doing SIMAP next weekend since they are scheduling a batch of work for June 1st.

Nice work on the W@home guys. Looks like we are already putting a dent in the lead. :)

I was out of town this weekend, and apparently my power went out this morning, so all but two of my PCs were off for most of the day.

I'm having trouble getting one of the machines to run W@H (it doesn't want to get new work) but I'll keep playing with it.

oh btw razor, in freehal the speed of the ram doesnt mean anything.. currently running it on my xp-m 2400+ w/ 512mb 2x256mb pc2100 and takes 35 minutes per WU.. my 940 with ddr2 800 takes 34-35 minutes.. so i mean shit you could probably get the same performance out of a bunch of useless systems running pc133 ram.. :p

which version are you using?

i had this same problem with mine when i was trying to run more then 2 clients.. but it was due to me installing a new version over an old one without deleting the folder..

This was a fresh install of the latest multicore launcher on Vista x64. All processes ran to completion, but then wouldn't get more work or submit the finished results (you can see the CPUs still have zeros under my account). I'm guessing it's something to do with Vista, since my other W@H boxes are both XP, but I couldn't find any tips online. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but that didn't help. I also tried "Run as administrator" but that seemed to hang before it would start.

edit: I just installed the latest beta, and it seems to have different Vista security settings. (It's supposed to be faster too.) I see how it goes after it finishes the first WUs.

hmm it worked perfectly fine on my my c2d T5750 running vista x64 using the beta 10 client that razor linked further up.. i didnt have to do anything to get it to work which was amazing because it was a pain in the arse getting it to work on this system which is xp pro.. maybe its your firewall or uac stopping it..

Yeah, beta 10 is what I just installed. It has different Vista security settings than the old (non-beta) version, so hopefully it will work. The beta also supports more than 4 cores, for use on dual-proc or hyperthreading boxen.

yup.. just change the launcher config file..

LHC@home was just dropped from the DC Vault. Good for us, I guess, since there was no way to make progress. It didn't really change our relative position, though.

My first W@H workunits are almost done in the beta 10 client on my i7. I'm only running four processes now while I finish up some BOINC stuff, but I might bump it up to 8.

what is your primes per second for each client? just want to see how much faster the i7 is on a single core then the 940..
