DayZ $29.99

They have a new pathfinding system in, but the dividends it's paid have been pretty minimal so far.

Apart from adding the low-hanging fruit of rag doll physics, that's pretty much all they've done in the last, say, three months or so.

holy fuck this game is terrible.

with over 100 hours in standalone, 5x that in the mod. i don't know why i still play it.

development is ridiculously slow. they push features which suck any fun out of it (frozen north currently).

maybe i'll check back in a year, but i'm not optimistic. i think this one is in the shitter.

I really haven't been keeping up with development over the past couple months. Have they even started work on the new renderer?

game development is a pretty thankless job these days...not that most studios don't suck...but still

My buddy plays WarZ (renamed to Infestation Stories) and he tells me they've really improved it, they have a new map in beta for LA, but that hackers are kinda shitty in it (largely unregulated), but they are a rarity.

This is one of those games that will never be finished.

Not really, it seems like they were trying but made poor development decisions (going with ARMA 2.5 instead of ARMA 3 engine as a base platform to build off of) and just got in over their head to the point where no matter how many warm bodies you threw at the project it was on a downward spiral.

Is rocket leaving the project next month?

If they are able to re-do the graphics engine as planned, squash some bugs and stop adding "features" without him around then it still seems salvageable. They should focus on making it better (a more playable experience, thats actually fun and drives you to log on to accomplish more than just shooting mans) than the ARMA 3 mods like Epoch first, then add features later.

This game has been a total disappointment when compared to the mod.
The Zombie AI is just awful and trying to discuss it on the steam Day Z community forums gets you banned.
I was banned by the devs themselves for expressing my frustration.
The funniest thing is that they told me the reason was for insulting posts, when it was everyone else in the thread attacking me for not simply accepting the mediocrity.
I used to love Day Z (Mod) and even ran a server for my gaming group. However, at this time I would not recommend this game to anyone. A Zombie game with broken Zombie AI.
How fucking pathetic is that.

You know, when Bohemia announced they were releasing the DayZ standalone / hired Dean Hall, I was worried they were going to focus resources away from ArmA 3 development. Kinda looks like it's the opposite, which is cool for me because I play ArmA 3 and not DayZ, but sucks for people who paid $30 for DayZ.

You're so right on this, Arma III "sitrep" updates seem to be weekly - and they're just about to add that Marksmen DLC. I've actually been kinda shocked with how much continual support ArmaIII gets. Any other company would've dropped it after release and started working on Arma 4. I'm hoping/praying that this series eventually gets DX12 or better yet Vulkan support. Since its such a CPU heavy game, unclogging the CPU from GPU traffic by spreading it over multiple cores could only improve framerate.

That said, I know DayZ has its own team dedicated to it, and I hear that they're supposedly continually making little tweaks but doesn't seem like many major changes; admittedly I dont really follow the development. My biggest gripe with DayZ, the zombies just aren't daunting, they're a nonfactor most players just ignore. In fairness, its the same in H1Z1. Until they get some roaming herds and/or romero style fast zombies, I'm afraid I just can't be bothered :)
