Hey guys, just wanted to get some feedback from some fell [H]ardocp guys on my current overclocking setup. Right now with my qx9650 I can do 4ghz (10x400) all day with 1.35 volts, but I have noticed the temps even with a lapped TRUE 120 are a little on the warmish side (w/ quad priming its around 73c on average). Now last night I played around with keeping the 1600fsb but lowering the mulitplier back to its native 9 to give me 3.6ghz. Now at this speed I can run the chip at a nice low 1.19 volts and the top temp is around 56c. I was wondering for my day to day use what should I keep the chip at?? Currently I am playing around with the Maximus Formula and the EVGA 780i board and both give me the same in terms of voltage OC and temps.

you dont mean 1.9v now do you?:p
what are your ambients? mine about 22-25C yet with 1.35V and 4.1GHz I prime at 65C so im guessing your ambients are higher? that said how are you cooling here, im water here.

I dont think you need to worry. at 1.35V you are not likely to load all cores 100% in day to day usage and even then I dont think it hitting 70C now and then is going to do any damage, not significant to the time period you will keep this CPU before you upgrade anyways. ;)

I tend to go in between the stock and the overclock. Unless you're folding, you're not really going to benefit from the nice overclock, exept to happily report it and for benchmarking. Plus, your power consumption goes up, and for what?

For peace of mind i'd scale down the overclock just a bit, and turn it on for CPU-intensive apps...say...divxing a bunch of movies all at once.

Congratulations for the great overclock!

For day to day use I tend to use mild overclocking.
1) Long term stability
2) Power consumption
3) Increase hardware longevity. Yes, heat means deterioration.
4) Most applications are not sensitive to higher clock.

For example, right now I run my Q6700 (2.66GHZ) at 3.0GHZ even if it can reach 3.4GHZ.

right now i can do 3.8ghz (9.5 x 400) with 1.225 volts. I am stress testing that out now. So its going to be a toss up between 9x400 for 3.6ghz w/ 1.19-1.2 volts or 9.5x400 for 3.8ghz w/ 1.225 volts.
