Date for 955P chipsets?

Absolutely no problems man :p

The only way I see a complete solution is if someone hacks the nvidia drivers...which is a definite possibility ;)

Hey if you're right you're right, I was wrong. I misunderstood something and thanks!

If I was upgrading right now I might consider that. But realistically price is still about $50 too much. Definitely better though.

Same here and I think $170 to $180 more like what I'm willing to spend. I wanted a single core Venice 3500+ first and had dreams of it selling for $250 big laugh that was. Next I looked a $210 for a 3GHz 630 or even $215 for a 3.2GHz 551 (1MB with AMD X86-64). I had AMD first not because of performance, but because I already have extra DDR1 RAM and didn't want to buy DDR2. That'd mean I'd still have 512MB of Kingston 3500.

I would buy DDR2 to move to Dual Core because I can't see spending the MSRP of $537 only for the AMD processor. With news that i875 is compat with Dual Core, that changes everything. Yet I still would like to have ICH7, SATA-II, PCI-E and etc...

Is that same AMD processor better? No, it is not better than 3GHz Processor Plus the motherboard Price wise eventhough it easily wins the Geek Vote!

Hmm.. I may reconsider purchasing a 6800GT with my system know... Anyone positive that the dual ATI solution will work with the 955x boards?

I know this is the wrong thread, but which current gen ATI card can I get the same or similar features and bang-for-the-buck as the GT? I've researched the NVidia side of things, and like the 6800GT (at the $500 CAD price point, it seems like it would last a good couple years for me).

However, that said... considering the 955x (specifically the Asus premium model) states that it is dual-GPU capable, why won't NVidia allow their cards to do SLI on it? I will have to go ATI in that case, if someone can confirm it will work. Not that I will be buying 2-cards off the bat, I just want that capability in future.

noone really knows except for maybe some mobo engineers actually working on these board, but they're surely under NDA's. So anything you hear is just guessing at this point.

ASUS is great about compatibility and creative engineering to make things work. (look at their Pentium M adapter) So if Asus states on their specs will work with ___x____ I would bet on it. They're my second favorite mobo company, only to Abit, just b/c Abit caters to OC'rs a little more.

SLI is still in its infancy. Don't jump the gun yet. Wait a few more months for both dual core solutions, Intel nforce4, 955x, etc.... to all pan out. Then you'll know whats the right mobo, chip, videocard combination to buy.

I won't be getting dual-core right off the bat, unless I can get a good price on the 840 (doubt that...). I may actually just a get a P4 630 and call it a day. But the rest of the system (955x, video card) will be top of the line. I just need to figure out which video card now... again...

It looks like that's what is going to happen for me as well. I might end up with one leftover from a Bud who talking about going duel. Hey, not overclocked 2nd hand can't be that bad.
I'm not sure if I'd buy it New for over 200 dollars though. I'd have already done it if it weren't for DDR2 (I didn't want to buy any). I also didn't want to spend almost $300 on AGP.

Low latency DDR2-800 is on the way, from OCZ. Still dying here... 1 6800gt, or one x800... hmm. Asus board has dual graphics, but which one will work?! lol

I'm hoping these dual core Intel chips will work with my DFI 875P-T as rumored. If so, I'll be getting one the day they come out.

I'm getting the X800XL unless nVidia gets cheaper or the Newer ATI card has PS-3.0 instead of 2.0. But I like the fact that it has 16 pipes and 256MB. It has been on sale for $269 with free shipping.

I've been reading about the DDR-2 800 and it has re-interested me in looking at DDR2.

Dual cores running on an 875? Doubtful... Anything about these boards in Canada?

Nope, the second slot is a "universal PCIex" slot... which is capable of switching from 4x to 8x (or even 16x), according to Asus. Check out the specs on their website. It says their board can run 16x - 4x, 16x-1x, 8x-8x... 8x 8x being the interesting one, as it suggests SLI...

And yes Newegg may have them in stock, but they do not ship to Canada.

Newegg has both the Gigabyte and Asus 955x boards in stock now. $250 each

Notice the Asus board has an SLI (ribbon style) connector: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Showi...75)+Intel+955X+ATX+Intel+Motherboard+-+Retail

And of course 2 physical 16x slots though one is actually only wired with 4x. But from the benchmarks it seems at though 4x PCIe is still plenty of bandwidth.

These things are just hitting the markets. Just as AMD biased folks say wait for Venice prices to settle down as more of them are shipped, same thing for these motherboards. Or should we have double standards for the home team and the hated team?

For the recorded steviep, Dual Core is only compatible with i955X because, and you heard it from me, the other chipsets doesn't have the*NEW* Arbitration Logic built into the Northbridge. i875 is an Intel Dual Core compatible chipset!

http://www.unitedmicro.com/mbw.cgi?129223411

i875 has the older version AL built-in its North Bridge, There are several board that ship with one or two Xeon socket 603's. i915 and i925 doesn't include this. So fans loose some of their case as they talk about different chipsets ans switching for no reason.

so if you have one of the mobos with a 775pin socket and 875/865 it might be possible to plug & play dual cores. That would be nice. I just built a system with a mobo like that. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813127203 being that its an Abit mobo, if its possible with just a BIOS update they'll release the BIOS for it. As they enabled the BX mobos to live forever, and even made the BE7 (845) capable of 800FSB, etc...

Yes! But I still would like an i955X since I don't have an i875/775 anyway. Like I said before, I'd want SATA-II, ICH7, the improved memory and even PCI-E on the newer board. I'll just wait for the prices to fall!

Well, I was talking about way down the line as to extend the life of that particular system. Which currently has a Celeron D in it. (granny email, surfing box)

Sorry, I didn't look at it that way. I have an old i875, IC7-G Max2, I'm tired of it and wouldn't want a new processor for it! I want a new motherboard anyway. More power to the folks who'd love to keep their boards though.
