Darksiders [PC]

The game was pretty amazing, it ripped off every game developer in a very good way.

I'm really enjoying the game so far. Sure the combat is a little repetitive, but so was Devil May Cry and God of War. I'm just happy to have a new PC game that isn't an FPS. It isn't Game of the Year but it certainly isn't awful.

Also, people should stop talking about things they don't know about. The resolution is not a slider with no label.

I don't think he was saying it was a clone...

I also dislike this OTT art style, it's bleeding over from the Japanese culture I think, we have these people with impossibly big swords and completely unrealistic armour, I don't have a problem with fantasy settings but this stuff just isn't internally consistent.

Why do you think clad armor, christian mythology, and huge swords are from japanese culture?

If anything, it's like the exact opposite >.>

I can't say that I like the look of it at all. The hideously oversized armor, giant swords...it all makes me think me of what WoW would look like if it had a respectable graphics engine.

The art style is Joe Madureira, A very famous comic book artist. His style pre-dates WoW bye YEARS.

checkout some images from the comic "Battle Chasers", which debuted in 1998:

Joe Mad has been involved in a couple of failed videogames in the past the never got off the ground. Darksiders is his first big success derivitave as the gameplay may be, I'm excited for the guy as I used to be a huge fan of superhero comic artists when I was younger.

*and Princess Fosty, you are correct. Joe Mad's style is influenced by Japanese manga and anime artists. He's been credited for helping the american comic industry become more aware of Japan. He's been using this style since at least 1994, in Uncanny X-Men.

That era of X-men was pretty crap, but Joe Mad's art style did make it look fairly good. He followed the insane Jim Lee and Rob Liefield look that everyone in the 90s liked for some insane reason, but he made it look good.

I took a look at some of Joe Mad's other stuff and I think I have found the single most badass image in the history of the internet.

What the hell does this game have to do with Zelda? Just because you occasionally slide a few blocks around? This is NOTHING like Zelda.

Swordplay is pretty similar, and theres the boomerang that you can lock to multiple targets, and then of course there are the 3-hit boss battles. :p

And what's wrong with it being like Zelda?

just started playing after getting it on sale for PS3 for $15 or so, pretty awesome game so far.

Not picking up much Zelda thus far. Seems much closer to God of War and the like, but it definitely doesn't feel as epic. While the graphics are good (I'm at 1920x1080), there isn't as much detail or atmospheric touches as GoW or Dante's Inferno.
Still, it's not a bad game at all.

I like this game.. Although my gripe is it wants me to use my Xbox360 controller and I don't want too.

You obviously haven't played it very far yet :O

This is how Darksiders chats go.

People who havent played it: Its like GOW.
People who have played it: Its more like Zelda.

This freaking game is glorious, loved it -- here's hoping a sequel makes it to the PC as well. I finally finished after 15 hours (way longer if you count the deaths/redos - which the ingame timer doesn't. Could even go back and spend more time finding all the abyssal armor or treasures, etc). Just a fantastic experience all around. The combat, upgrade/inventory system, characters, art direction, puzzle-esque challenge sequences (which require some brain!), story...all of it was enjoyable to me. One of my all time favorite games no question.

After reading through this thread I might go pick this one up. I'm always annoyed at PC games that don't have many graphics adjustments though...

I am still about 80% into my campain on the PS3. Freaking fun as hell game. I might check this out on PC just to compare the visuals. Sounds like I'll have to use a 360 controller if playing it on PC though.

Yesterday there was a Steam update that killed off my savegames. I guess prior to this update, the game stored 2 sets of saves depending whether you ran the game with or without Steam. Not sure what else the update did, but it invalidated the non-Steam saves. Luckily I wasn't too far into the game, but if you are: Don't sign into Steam again until you win the game!

It’s a really good game – I’d definitely recommend it. It starts off as a God of War knock-off, but they start adding more and more other elements as you go further. I’m starting to pick up on the Zelda comparisons (Tiamat’s level mainly), but the gameplay is still very much like GoW with some additional mechanics tossed in for the puzzles.
I wish the art design didn’t have so many hard edges and more detail, but the simplicity does keep the game running ultra-smooth. Still, even running Darksiders at 1920x1080, I’d say GoW 3 still looks better.

Sounds pretty damned promising to me. :)

I'm guessing you're better off using a controller for something like this. Is the KBM even really viable in this?

I've played half the game with mouse and keyboard and got by ok. Most frustrating part is when you have to lock-on multiple enemies or objects to hit with boomarange blade (can't remember what it's called :p)

Will be switching to wireless 360 controller tonight though.

It's a great game. I got this for the xbox 360 and the PC. I am using the xbox 360 controller for windows at the moment. Unfortunately the game is a direct console port. You don't get any options under advanced settings to adjust your graphical details and such. Only thing you can adjust is your resolution and have vsync enabled or disabled.

I am just throwing this out there for people who have crossfire or have a HD 5970. The game for me, stutters when I have Catalyst A.I. enabled. When I disabled Catalyst A.I., the game is running really smooth. This is the exact same stuttering I encounted with Transformers: War for cybertron for the PC. I guess I have to wait for the profile to take advantage of dual GPUs.

Whenever I unplug it, it says "Please Plug in Your Controller".. even if I start my system with it unplugged and the game.. Its stupid :( makes me sad. I will re install tomorrow and try.
