DAN A4-SFX: The smallest gaming case in the world

I've seen many posts on VLP RAM modules. Yesterday i saw that the cryorig c7 has 32mm height without fan. While standard DDR4 RAM has 31.2mm. Am I right in the assumption that normal DDR4 RAM without heatspreader, like the g-skill fortis for example, will not rise above the c7? Thus a 140x15mm fan should be possible covering most of the board?

Has anyone tried that?

Most of the posts on VLP RAM have to do with dondan's planned HSLP-48 heatsink. The idea there is to have a 48mm tall heatsink and put the fan underneath the fins, pulling through. Among the options proposed is being able to use a 120mm fan, but doing so will mean that the fan conflicts with the RAM on most modules- hence the VLP discussion.

The problem with the C7, in general, is how close your fan is going to be to the side of the case. You're basically 1-2mm short of the side, which is going to mean a lot of noise, especially on a 140mm fan.

If you look at the static pressure of the noctua 90mm and 120mm thin fans the 90mm is higher i think. Unless you want a fan to act over a larger area, like Dan's cooler, the smaller 90mm fans are just as good if not better. Air will always try to find the easiest path and that is not though a heatsink, most of the air will flow around the sides of the heatsink. That's my theory anyway.

Thats a pity. Because the C7 seems to have a bit more cooling power. But reading this i'll probably go with the noctua. I want as less noise as possible at idle. Don't really mind it while gaming.

Running prime95 now, total system is pulling 125watts at the wall.... System idles at 50watts. We will see where the temperature stabilises...

It stabilised at 68 degrees at 2500rpm after not long, I ran it for over two hours to confirm it wasn't slowly increasing. Ambient temperature was 23 degrees. I will do a final test and add it to the Google spreadsheet soon. Very happy overall :)

I've seen that the eVGA GTX 1080 Ti FTW3 could fit the case, that's great but would the Kingpin fits as well as the power connectors are at the end of the card ? It's more for curiosity than real interest... but who knows... ;-) Thanks !

Thanks for being thorough with testing. I am sure many others including me are interested in building a Ryzen 1700 build with the Dan A4.

Was there ever a temperature comparison of the LP53 + a9x14 vs Cryorig C7 + a9x14? I have both and I don't feel like swapping to the LP53 if there is minimal difference.

No problem, yea I think the Ryzen chips are a great fit for the Dan case. I suspect that the L9a would even cope with a 1800x, hopefully someone will try it! I suppose I could overclock too simulate an 1800x but I I want to do some gaming now that my system is setup nicely!

Unless you are playing CS:GO competitively and want super high FPS I see no reason to go with an Intel chip, it's just a bunch of hassle trying to keep the temperature under control.

While I don't recall if anyone has actually used it in their case yet, It should fit with a few caveats: You will have to mod the case to allow the power connectors to come in through the front of the case behind the front panel, and because of this, you will probably not be able to mount an ssd behind the front panel.

Anyone got a good link for the 26.6 version of prime95, just realised I have 26.5 even though the link said softonic link says 26.6. I know it probably won't make too much difference but still...

It's not normal, maybe you have a defective cooler that doesn't transfer heat properly.
Do you have warranty?
My GTX 1070 FE will IDLE at those temps (50°C) and it doesn't matter, works fine.

Hmm, maybe. My ASUS STRIX 1070 ramps up on idle to 54°C in the closed DAN case. Even now with rainy weather which brings 24°C room temperature.

Anyone know where to get 4mm standoffs? I just ordered and it says estimated shipping is over a month or so. Looking to get this build up next week once I receive cpu

Wait the month and just leave the side panel off in the mean time?

I've seen them on amazon.
Here.

Will there be another kickstarter soon ??? i cant believe i missed it :(

No, and to buy the case you will need to wait until a store stocks it next year. But don't miss it then too, because Dan said he has no plans to make more. He did not say he will NEVER make more, just that there is no plan right now. It takes a year to make this case because he needs to do all the work and fundraising and shipping from start to finish!

Finally got time to install the cables from CableMod.

My results are a bit...mixed. The qualitity is top, the handling of the cables is way easier now - lots of free space. But for 120€..well, decide yourself.

Corsair SF450, Gigabyte H270n, Asus STRIX 1070
ATX 150mm
EPS 250mm
PCIe 350mm
SATA 100mm+50mm

The 350mm are way too too long, even with the ASUS STRIX 8pin connector hitting the top of the case, 300mm would've been better.
The SATA length is the minimum if you want to use 2 SSDs, one front and one botton.

Tried to use some cable combs, but with all the twisting around they are more hindrance than help.

Strange sideeffect - the STRIX is running a bit cooler now, might be from opening the airflow below the power supply?

€120 is more then I would be willing to spend on them but they do look nice, you should get low profile sata cables from Silverstone as well they come in black or blue

Thanks for the info ! ya ill try my best to get it this time around. Any stores in the us that will carry them ???

I would advise against the Silverstone low profile sata cables. I've had nothing but problems with them. My ones worked fine for a few days then one by one they failed, Windows was detecting I/O errors then the drives disappeared. Same thing happened with the replacement cables I got. Awesome idea for a product, but really bad QC.

I've been using these ones in my media server with 10 drives since the middle of May without issue: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IBA3ITK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I'm also using some in my DAN build and haven't had any issues there either.

It's not. Dan himself has tested it with another fan two years ago in a DAN A4 Prototype.

You have only 11.5mm free space. The Scythe 100mm slim fan was a very close fit. So without modding the Noctua will not fit.

OK, I know most people go team blue and green, and I know most people bought the black case. But I can't be the only silver case owner who ordered a window kit that can't wait for the brushed aluminium Limited Edition RX Vega (assuming price/performance is reasonable):

if you already have a free-sync monitor it's always going to make a lot of sense. Also, TVs with free-sync are due to arrive soon too, that will be very cool!

I am afraid Vega is bad for SFF due to it's power consumption. Right now it looks like it'll compete with 1080, it's 295 Watt vs 180. The difference is huge for SFF build. If you want to go with Vega - you'd better wait for Vega Nano, I assume it'll be around 200 Watt

I fully agree power is an issue, however, it will be pulling the same as most aftermarket 1080ti, 980ti and fury X cards and I've seen plenty of those in the Dan A4.

It is certainly something to consider but as long as it is cooled well I don't see a major issue.

I'd love one of these as well. The design is a match made in heaven for the silver case. Hopefully the power draw will be manageable. To my mind it should be, especially as this is a blower card, but other opinions are always welcome.

The chip & architecture seem capable of ludicrous overclocks, or undervolting, depending on your priorities (based on FE reviews and promise of better power management as drivers catch up to this platform). I'd speculate (generally) a blower card is thermal rather than VRM limited, especially in this arch. All the deep dive / teardown power section reviews will come with benchies when the press embargo date arrives. Tough being patient, especially when you know the brushed aluminum ones are limited edition ...but most of us are waiting a while longer for the SFXv2 case regardless

Personally, I'd wait to buy a card until closer to the holidays. Partner cards and other options will be out by then, and drivers will be more than mature. Let this mining thing blow over or, become the new normal with chip production to match. With this minimalist design, easy enough to "oven cleaner mod" any color anodized aluminum to bare, then wire brush and rattle-can clear. TIM upgrade while the shroud is off. Worth an hour or two for the look you want, if a different cooler style hasn't tempted you by then

I would love to do an all AMD build for my Dan Case, but... i'm not too optimistic i'll be able to get my hands on a Vega card, let lone Polaris with the miners out there.

Btw I swapped the Noctua NF-A9x14 on my L9i for a "beQuiet! Silent Wings 2". Temps are admittedly a few degrees higher at full load but it runs much more quiet than the A9x14 - although it is just 1-2mm from the sidepanel.

In idle both are inaudible.

Maybe you wanna try ^^
