I have a P6T V2 deluxe mobo, corsair H50 cooler and 12 gigs of corsair memory. I run fine with decent temperatures at 3.8@1.3V. But I can't even get a post at 4.0@1.35V. All I am doing is stepping up the multiplier from 19 to 20 so my memory load shouldn't be any greater. Any ideas?

Do you even need to put your voltage that high? I am currently running a d0 920 @ 4.0 GHz with 1.3v core on the asus p6td deluxe. I've even heard of people getting d0's to run stable at 1.26V @ 4.0 GHz, I just haven't tried it.

I am installing W7 right now I will do some more testing in a few minutes. I just saw all these people bumping up voltage to 1.35 and setting the speed to 200 multiplier to 20x and getting 4. I just thought it was odd that I can't even post at 4 when D0s are supposedly nearly guaranteed to do that 95% of the time it seems like.

I had 4ghz with 1.2 vcore, my bet is simply just too much RAM, try it with 6gb and see if it works.

Hmm interesting after a full default reset in bios and disabling all the stuff I don't want I seem to be semi good at 1.35 now at 4. 1.3 doesn't boot windows.

Each chip requires a different voltage, there's no guarantee that you'll be stable at 4.0GHz @ 1.3v.

If it is memory that is the issue then If I found I was not long term stable at 3.8 with 200 and 19. Would running the memory slightly slower with 190 and 20 work better? I will try that out later on today but just want to get your feedback...

It can also be the motherboard. Some of the asus boards don't like 20x multiplier, or you could be going up against the max of your bclk and should maybe give 21x a shot.

Might not be able to reach 4Ghz on that chip maybe?
Have you raised your QPI voltage? Slap that at 1.35v and keep your memory nearest to it's rated speed as possible.

I am atleast semi stable 21x, 195bclk, 1.35. Haven't gotten time to check it yet but the temps were a bit high I'm thinking it might not like 200bclk. I'm going to shoot for 21x 190 at 1.3. I'll post back with my findings.

What were the load temps? Sometimes it's a combination of BLCK and multiplier. My UD5 did 20x200 with no problem. Is your Hyper-Threading enabled or disabled?

HT is enabled. I'm using W7 so supposedly it should handle HT better than Vista or XP. Load temps were up to mid 70s with a H50 at 195\21x.

Mid 70s are normal load temps for the i7 920.

FYI don't try to stress test your cpu with one computer and stress test your hard drives on another computer at the same time hooked up to one UPS. OVERLOAD! Not to mention its like 85F in my room now.

I'd pull some Ram out and just try overclocking with 1 stick in. Might be ram issue with 12gb enabled.

Using a P6X58 Prem, 920 D0 with 6GB Dominator.

199x20 with these settings.
Vcore - 1.26
PLL - 1.80
QPI - 1.268
IOH - 1.18
DRAM - 1.64

Not much info out for this board, so I basically just went with what people were using on the P6T V2 Del.

I was stable @ 3.6 180 x20 default core, 1.32 QPI, memory @ 1800.

To get to 4 Ghz I had to lower my Uncore frequency to 3600 from auto 3800 it would boot at default voltage. I then had to play with the core voltage it is stable @ 1.28 however with vdroop, I had to set it to 1.30 as it would drop .02 when running prime95.

So my final was 1.30 core - 1.32 QPI, 200x20, Uncore frq 3600, memory @ 1600

More voltage than I wanted, but it is stable and my H50 can handle the heat. Highest core 75 @ after 1hr prime.

Probably could have done it with less voltage if I disabled SpeedStep.

Why do so many people speak negatively about speedstep. When overclocking, isn't it better to leave it on so the machine will idle at a lower clockspeed then running full speed all the time.

For my overclock I left C1E, Speedstep on.

C1E, Speedstep on can cause the box to blue screen if volts drop to low at idle

I don't think I have this issue with both on my idle vcore never drops to below 1.192.

And is speedstep the one responsible for reducing the clock speed when it idles?

Intel C-state and spread spectrum disabled? I would also try and disable EIST also.

It just depends.. personally I have to up the voltage to 1.27 to get a stable system at 3.1 GHz on my D0 chip. I haven't tried pushing it further as this speed is fine for me right now.

Now I can pass stress test programs like Prime95 and Linx at a lower voltage (1.25) but will get random crashes in Windows every now and then. Upping it to 1.27 completely eliminates these. People who say they're stable might not be *entirely* stable. Then again I might just have a flaky chip.. who knows.

Sorry it took so long to respond. I think I have a sweet spot for performance\heat. It seem to be able to run stable at 3.8+ but my heat gets up to high 70s low 80s. I am running a bunch of stuff in this box so I am going for something a bit more mild. I am running at 1.25V 18x200 (3600) currently and my temps seems to top out at 75 under load which is good i'm going to try to push voltage down more if I can. I found I couldn't leave alot of the options on auto for the bios. Disabled\forced quite a few...

You might need to bump a few other voltages to run stable at a lower vcore, with 12gb of mem. Try a 19x multi and bumping the blclk up a bit rather than using the higher multi. If need be loosen your ram timings a bit to take that out of the picture. I had to use a 19x multi on my bloodrage build to get her up to 4ghz.

i'm at 180x20 for my current overclock I will push it alittle further and see if I run into any issues.

Other than turning off some of the auto features. I've left all the power saving features on and machine seems to be fine tho most recommend to disable for overclocking.
