I will have a E2160 box coming next week 
Later, I might get a 45nm quad and move my Q6600 to this box.
Also, I'm awaiting a bunch of new boxes at work... I cannot wait to see what would be the CPU they decided to pick and if all of them are Q6600, I'm in heaven !

The nearest one to me is about 2 hours away. The gas for that drive wouldn't allow for any savings. Too bad though, thats about a 20% saving isn't it?
Maybe if I bought more, the savings would make it work the gas money.
Maybe I am getting addicted too.
Retail q6600 is about $270 at the moment, so it's a really good deal.
Yup, but for the rest of these poor folks this is the best deal available ATM.

So, looking at my threat list I asked the simple question, "How much D would it take to erase my threat list?"
A) Buy that Q6600 that you have been postponing for far too long.
B) Sneak into a computer lab at work on the weekend and borg every computer.
C) Get another credit card with a mailing address at a PO Box so the wife won't see the bill and then go on a spree at NCIX spending your retirement fund.
D) The [H]ard Folders on your threat list are way out of your league. Resign yourself to making contributions to the cause.

Just got MY very first quad today!
One of those q6600 dell deal boxes finally arrived for me today.
I don't have time or all the parts to do my huge swap that I have planned, but for now I am going to pop a usb drive in there and start folding
I don't know what stepping it is, but hopefully it will be my third 3+ Ghz at home folding 24/7.
Must have aldamon Cheese!
One of those q6600 dell deal boxes finally arrived for me today.
I don't have time or all the parts to do my huge swap that I have planned, but for now I am going to pop a usb drive in there and start folding

At least 1 quad is coming online in the next month or so. If I talk myself out of that 24" lcd I could probably put together another cheap quad folder. It really is such a tough decision.......HD 1080p.orn or another 4000ppd?

Is it really that hard?
I have a 28" LCD at work (that work paid for!!!) but I am using older 19" CRTs at home. I choose to buy too many quads.
Can anyone convince me that I could save lots of money on electricity by replacing my CRTs with LCDs?

Always think under this angle...Actually, in the displays forum there was a post where someone mentioned approximate power savings going from CRT to LCD, and apparently it was quite significant. More than switching from one processor to a another one from a newer generation (smaller die). So, I would say yes, there is significant savings and the more CRTs you still have being used around the home or office, the more savings there is upgrading to LCDs.

I've got 3 CRT's in daily use at my house. All of them used by me and the kids and my sweet bride. I would love some big ass big scream wide screen LCDs. The price is never right for me. Money always seems to flow towards new boxen. It is part of my addiction.

You stand to benefit from a significant power saving replacing all those CRTs to LCDs. Look in the FS forum and you're likely to see deals on used LCDs if buying new is too much money. You don't have to get the latest and biggest LCDs on the market. You might wish to acquire a good one for yourself and the other two could be somewhat smaller. Besides, virtually any LCD available currently is superior to a CRT, and the money you spend now will be more than made up for with the money you save in the long run.

I understand that I could save some money on electricity with the swap of CRTs for LCDs. But quality? You said:
what do you mean by superior? Two of my CRTs are high end... best of their breed. Both can do 1600x1200 with ease (and the right graphics card). Colors are beautifiul. What else is great about LCDs? Thanks in advance.
Well the topic is OT here, but for me the biggest advantage is the space savings. I have 4 LCDs where I used to have two monitors. Second is emissions. I used to experience problems with my eyes after hours of continuous use with a CRT. LCD displays permit me at least double the amount of time without experiencing eye strain. For me, that reason alone make LCD tech far and above superior to CRT. The other reasons are best asked in the Displays forum. Granted, if you require color accuracy and you work as a graphics professional, CRTs are probably still a better option. Mind you, things are changing fast this year with new flat panel tech being released such as LED backlighting, adaptive resolution scaling, very high color gamut, etc.
I see, trust me you shouldn't have trouble in that department with a decent LCD!

I can't "D" anymore ... I am "D"ed out .... heck ... i am "M" it right now .. that is how far past "D" I am!
Be careful with too much D. That caused a few members in the past to burn out. Boy, has Stanford got a lot of upgrading to do in order to keep with this team's production!
