No need to say anymore, I'm kinda of curious as to what will arise out of that thread. I am not bad mouthing him but yeah his tone seems really monotone and angry at that. I hope he'll finally get the answer he wants. I reckon he'll not be pleased with the answer and well probably just fess up about it.

Why can't I be in it for both? I'm anrgy because that guy has only done like 133wu and I've done over 900WU. I've been folding since feb 2006 and now he is surpassing me already! If I had discovered that the ONLY reason why he surpassed me was due to him running a much faster system and or running multiple systems at once, I wouldn't care because that's the way it is and should be. However this isn't the case as he is surpassing me not only because he has a faster system but because there is a significant point advantage to using the SMP client, that makes it unfair.

If you had a fast single core system, in this situation, no matter what you did, you would always get fewer points than if you had a system with two much slower processors. I believe that if you ran the regular client on a system with a P4 EE 3.73ghz or AMD64 FX 58 overclocked to 3ghz, and the SMP client on a hypothetical Dual Socket system running two 1.5GHZ P4 processors, the PPD on the SMP client would be much higher that of the regular client on either the P4 EE 3.73ghz or overclocked AMD64 FX58 system. (yes I realize that there is no such thing as a dual socket P4 board as intel made dual processors with the P4 not possible)

You do bring up a point however, that's how it has been for a long while, get into the game. Don't be in it for the points, however if you want to improve your points, heed my suggestions.

1) If you own all of the comupters you are folding under, it may do you good to sell them and upgrade.
2) If not then configure each of the clients to use big WUs and I don't advise you to use advmethods, never has brought me any good imo.

I do have a lab borged, they are SMP capable but due to the nature of the lab and the beta client, I'm running 2 regular clients on each one of them 17 rigs C2D and I get various output from them depending on the wu, time they've been left on and so on. Just be glad you are doing folding and not for the points. We have tried to explain this to you and even so SMP has bonus points, if it wasn't for the BONUS, it may be rather comparable or not.

Now before you get all upset and so on forth, please detail your questions and what you know in a calm manner and we'll do what we can to help you out in order to get the most points you can out of your collective.

I reckon that this poll may not have been a good idea, probably is just angering you anyways. I apologize for that, I hope you will be able to at least try to digest the facts and do something about it.

Got any suggestion, guys? Let's help him on one condition that he remains calm and deal with this with a rational manner.

You say bonus points, have you ever seen bonus points on the regular client in excess of 500PPD? I didn't think so! Sure there are projects that are more than 400 points and work on the regular client but I doubt any of them could be done in one day. And you know what, if they can be done in one day, they're still yielding a smaller PPD than what you'd get with the SMP client. The SMP client shouldn't provide a points advantage like the linux client doesn't over the windows client (as so they claim anyways).

imzjustplayin I think what my teammates are trying to say is, your particular brand of whining is not welcome on our boards. A quick look around the DC subforum will show you that we are a lighthearted group, and any complaining is done only in jest. If someone posts a question, and others respond, their responses are listened to, and accepted.

This team runs the gamut from people running one console on a P4 to people maxing out credit cards and eating ramen to run naked diskless quad core boxes in their basements because their OC is dependant on a sub 70°F ambient temperature. Everyone is welcome and everyone does their part to find a cure to protein driven diseases.

The only real failure in the points system in my opinion is that is lures in people who do it for the wrong reason. It is there as a friendly competition, that is all.

I propose the rest of the team ignore posts by imzjustplayin regarding this matter. We are here to help maximize output, not stroke an e-penor.

Ivoshiee is correct, the bonus points is to lure folders toward the new clients, which is high performance with tight deadlines but with the risks associated with the clients being in Beta. Those clients force users to run 24/7... Think of it as a carrot !!

Yes, we are not a bunch of kids and everyone in our team know the involvment level of folding. Everyone I know here fold for the right reasons and the competition is just a thing we strive to push harder toward a cure. You want to be better than others ? Just get better computers and be competitive.

With this being said, I already PMed Rich Tate and Lethal to ask imzjustplayin to stop posting here or be banned. We don't welcome those who aren't our teammate and who try to ruin the team spirit (not that I'm worried, seeing that we got together to show him he is wrong).
