ok, I hope someone can help me with this. I bought an xbox 360 hd dvd player, and purchased power dvd ulta which offers support for hd dvd play on the computer and supports the drive. I can get the player to see that everything is compatible and I get the universal logo to come up and get to the dvd menu but when I push to start the hddvd (king kong) I only get audio, no video. I can also get closed captioning to come up but still no video. Currently my new monitor has not arrived and I do not have an hdcp monitor, so I am running the video on a crt monitor. Could anyone tell me what could be causing this? I'm assuming it's just I don't have a codec installed, but I would think this program which I paid $100 for would come with all codecs needed to play videos.

This is the wrong forum, but the problem is the lack of an HCDP monoter. PowerDVD will not output to a non HDCP monitor, even if the disk is not protected.

that is correct if the source is digital, however for analog signals it will show the picture. i bought red dragon to test and it will show that movie, so now im wondering why it works and king kong does not. right now i have an 8800 with dual dvi and have the converter to go to vga and it is hooked up to a crt monitor. my new monitor though will be hdcp so it will be an all digital source. is it possible that even though everything i have read claims that analog can watch all videos, some as with king kong has something that prevents a non hdcp source from viewing the video?

King Kong doesn't usually work with this version of PowerDVD, it's not your rig, it's the software.

Mine played flawlessly. I di have a hdcp rady setup though. It played with 6.5 as well. Everysingle hd has played. I've must have seen at least close to 20 by now. Only 2 gave me trouble but I ended up seeing 1 with a lil playing around and 1 I had to watch without DD but with surround.
