Cutting Cables?

Hello! I was wondering if it is ok to snip of the P4 lead on the MoBo AUX cable form my Toughpower 850WPSU. I do not use it. The alternative, non-snipping method would be reversing the cable, since the PSU plug and the 8-Pin moboplug that I need have the same plug and pinout. I.e., plugging the side dubbed 'Motherboard' into the PSU, and vice versa. Gimme ideas, wanna know for a build im working on, thanks!

Reverse it.

I've seen people "snip" wires before, then the insulation "crawls" back exposing some of the wire and eventually shorts.

Is it ok if the P4 connecto and the connector going to the mobo are running in parallel like they will be when I reverse it? I assume it should be fine, seeing as how it is not connected to anything...

I don't understand the question.

I think I have that PSU around here somewhere. Let me take a look at it. But lots of times I've flipped modular cables around in an effort to use "the short end." I know you can do it on Ultra and Seasonic PSU's. Let me check the Thermaltake.

Sorry about the confusing Q. Here, lemme make it simple.

That is the cable that I will be reversing, but it has a P4 connector on the end that now plugs into the PSU. Is that ok?

Unless both sides of the cable have the exact same plug then you can reverse it. This cable has more then one plug on it, and only the end that is ment to plug into the PSU can plug into the PSU.

If you truly dont need the p4 connetor cut it off and leave the wires on the cable long enough to tuck back into the sleeving.

Get the proper diameter/size heatshrink tubing and cut pieces about an inch long. Put 1/2 of the piece of heatshrink on the end of each cut wire with the other 1/2 half just "in the air" , shrink it. This will secure the HS to the wire and keep the cut end from shorting anything and accomodate the insulation moving and exposing more of the bare wire at the end.

do em all, and shove em back up inside the sleeving. a tye wrap would be a good thing too over the end of the sleeving near the plug to capture the cut wires and make sure they stay put.
