Hello all!

Just wanted to show off my latest mod... (my arm is getting tired of patting my own back:D), wanted to get other peoples input






I know the masking tape doesn't look pretty, but you can't see it when the thing is mounted in the case. It has been a work in progress... It's not broken but I still keep trying to fix it. It originally started out as just the two aluminum pieces sandwiching together the fans and the heater core... but I tired of that and decided that the fans needed to be spaced away from the heater core so that all the air can flow across it. The first attempt was mostly tape to seal it up. The third attempt is what you see now.

Currently I am only partially happy with it, which means that I will once again want to mess with it. Mostly just want to get rid of the masking tamp and ensure solid seals all the way around. I am thinking of using the same weatherstripping foam I used for the front and back panels to be a spacer and seal between the fans and the heater core bracket. Or I could be lazy and just try to use electrical tape and place it as neatly as possible
 
the shroud looks ghetto :D but the fans fit really good
nice heatercore, where's it from? honda? toyota?
 
I remember the days ofthe heater cores.................:D. Back in the day I used to use a dual heater core setup to cool my rig.

Nice, hard to tell but perhaps you can use closed cell weatherstrip foam for the sealing ? The kind with adhesive/sticky on one side ?

Ahh the good ole days when the objective was to make it go as fast as possible without just tossing a big wad of money at the machine.

/snicker, you wish, thats out of a car for a real man, Detroit USA big cast iron V8 300+HP 14 miles per gallon engine, "We are not letting your feet get cold, in fact we can cook em !" heater core that can easily dissipate 2KW of heat.

Core is probably 77 Bonneville W/O AC (with A/C is thicker - along the lines of Bio-Hazards ones, you can see the difference in thickness in the pics.) or close to it. look at 70's 80's big American cars, the 77 Bonny HC is the classic because the fan fit is perfect for 2 x 120, and was used in a lot of GM cars, caddys, Ford Lincons etc.

Or make it easy on yourself if you don't want to try soldering on fittings, by the time you buy two brass fittings and spend an hour messing with it you are probably just better off with:

Hmm nothing like a nice hi-rez pic, from the OP's picture if you Google "heater core 398219" you will find it, I see it for $22ish at Rock Auto, but make sure the description mentions brass/copper construction as some "new" replacement ones are now being made of Aluminum and should probably be avoided unless you have an AL block.

398219 - Dimensions Of 9-1/2" x 6-3/8" x 2", Inlet Size Of 5/8", Outlet Size Of 3/4"
399078 -which I believe is the classic Bonny - Dimensions Of 10-1/2" x 5-5/8" x 2", Inlet Size Of 5/8", Outlet Size Of 3/4"

The good ole days are still here with me... sort of...not that I want it to be, but modding this thing on a student income has sure been interesting. I only own three drill bits... 1/8" 5/16" and 1/2", anything in-between requires some good ole filling.
