I currently have the computer in my sig, and Im upgrading up to current or mostly current setup. Mostly to get PCI-Express 3, Sata3, and USB3. I recently picked up:

ASUS Z97-A
16GB G.Skill DDR3 PC3-19200 2400MHz Trident X CL10
Samsung Electronics 840 EVO 250GB
Western Digital 3 TB SATA III
EVGA GeForce GTX780 SC, I know this is not new, but coming from a ATI 5870, this is Awesome!!!

I am going to use the same case, PS, ODD, SSD, HDD in my sig.

You might of noticed no CPU, and that is my question. Should I go with a current Haswell i7-i5 or wait for Devil's Canyon. I am planning on OC'ing the processor. i am planning on buying a Phanteks PH-TC14PE to cool the processor.

So what are your suggestions? This community has some of the best hardware and software knowledgable people i have found on the internet.

Should I go with a current Haswell i7-i5 or wait for Devil's Canyon.

Personally I would wait it out until at least next week, when Devil's Canyon is supposed to be launched at Computex. One rumor has it that this might be just another announcement, with market availability in September.. other places are reporting that these chips actually go on sale June 2nd.

Think the pre-order inventory at ShopBLT had May 30th as ETA, last I checked.

So yeah.. probably worth waiting a week to find out what's going on, then take it from there.

Exactly... wait a week.. see how it all shakes out at Computex

OCing Haswell is about as rewarding as extracting milk from rocks. Wait for DC.

If you work retail goto the retail edge and buy now!!!!!

4770 for around 70 bucks, or like I purchased, the 4930 for 171 shipped!!!!!

Where is that roadmap from?
Nevermind, found it at VRZ. Plus I now see the vr-zone watermark.

This is actually great news: Haswell-E will launch on the same time frame of DC.

Thanks for all the Suggestions. Looks like i am going to wait for Devils Canyon. I might go to ShopBLT and put a pre-order in and see what happens.

Haswell-E looks like a new MB along with DDR4, so I just got this Z97 board so Im going to miss the Haswell-E's.;)

Thanks again guys for your help.

I really wouldn't worry about doing a pre-order from anywhere specific.. BLT probably isn't allowed to sell theirs any sooner than anyone else (they do get stuff early for some reason).

Well, Something has Changed at ShopBLT. It used to say:

Not In Stock(1700 Ordered) ETA May 30, 2014. Now it says

Not in stock. Ordered as needed (click for details.):(

This is for Both i7-i5 Devils Canyon Processor's

If the Haswell refresh isnt coming out til September and youre in need of a build now, you might as well go with the OG Haswell. I agree in waiting til next week to find out if its just a paper launch or not but if it is, there is no point in waiting if youre needing to build. But if your current rig can hold you down another 4 months then that is the way to go especially if youre overclocking since the Haswell refresh has supposedly fixed the TIM issue.

Well, my X58 board died so I was looking for something now. So, what I did was order one from ShopBLT and we will see. I can use the wife's computer for now, but she will problably start nagging me in about 2 weeks.;)

If I don’t have a Devil's Canyon in my hand, I will cancel the order at ShopBLT and buy a current Haswell.:(

Thanks for all your suggestions.:D

I would definitely hold off on doing anything until you get a chance to at least view some actual results with DC. I am getting my engineering sample to test sent out by Intel to test for my review today, so it won't be too much longer for you to wait ;). I am pairing it with the MPOWER MAXX AC and going to push it as far as I can go :)

I would very much like to see your results from that review. I am hopeful that it will be a better OC'er than the current Haswell's due to Intel's Improvements.

you could easily get an x58 board and cpu for 150$. Could hold you over for a while.

Although not ideal, if you have some older-ish games to play you can order a cheap Pentium to hold you over for awhile. I've got a G3420 in my Z97E-ITX that I am using as a holdover until DC comes out (and I can afford to get a new processor :)).

I plan on using it to build a machine in the garage down the road, but you could probably sell yours when you buy a DC processor since the G3420 supports ECC which is useful for those people looking for a cheap Mini-ITX ZFS system.

Why not pair it with a Pentium G3420 and wait for the Devil's Canyon refresh? Just from my personal experience with the chip, while it's not a benchmarking king, it's perfectly fine for about 80-90% of most games and from my collection of Steam games, only Metro Last Light which is a stuttering nightmare, gave me issue. Bear in mind I have it paired with two GTX 460s in SLI so it has a decent GPU set up for games. Other games like Hawken, Saints Row 4, Injustice, GRID 2, Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite and many more run very well and forgot I was playing on my G3420 and not my 3770k machine. It won't overclock, but I'm gonna hold out for a Devils Canyon i7, I believe the 4790k...I hope it could surpass the 5.2Ghz I popped out of my 2600k and the miserable 4.6Ghz on the 3770k. I've heard enough about the current Haswell to stay away from it, till I heard about Devil's Canyon.

If you plan to OC, get a G3420 for now, and later get an i7-4790k/i5-4690k when they are available, But I gotta say, for a Dual-Core, that little 3.2Ghz Pentium performs really nice, very similar to my old i3 2120. Considering that the Pentium is basically an i3 without hyper-threading, it makes sense. After getting the Devils Canyon, either sell the chip, or use it as a foundation for a media PC.

I was thinking of doing something similar to that too because I'll be getting an Overlord tempest sometime late June or early July, so I'll need a computer adequate enough to power it. I was thinking of getting a 4670/4770k to hold me off but now that I think about it I would be losing a lot more money that route. Plus even the G3420 is a substantial upgrade from an e8400. But, I plan on getting an R9 290. So let's say worse case scenario we have to wait till the fall for DC, would I be pulling my hair out by that time because of the bottleneck of the G3420? I plan on gaming at 1440p btw.

Resolution has more of an effect on the GPU than the CPU, so the G3420 should be fine for that monitor. I have a bunch of games that I haven't ran yet, if you have one you'd like me to try and report back on, let me know. As I said, out of my 800+ Steam games only Metro Last Light doesn't run well. I'm going to try Battlefield 4 tonight.

Heres my advice:
Wait till computex.

If DC materializes by then for a June release, then go with DC for its benefits.
If DC doesnt materialize for immediate release, then go with Haswell pre-refresh.

why?
If you need the delid, find a tutorial do it. thats what DC is mainly about.
If theyre planning to launch this in 3Q or 4Q `14 forget about it. Theres a quote from Intel honchos that state Broadwell would be out by the holidays.

Bioshock Series, Tomb Raider, Titan Fall, FEAR 3, CRYSIS 2&3, and DeadSpace and some other old ones. So I guess I could probablay get by. I might eventually buy watch dogs but I'll probably get that later on with metro light (by that time I should have 4790k or broadwell.

Yeah I think that's a good plan too.

WTF does that fine print mean? It says "Intel Devil's Canyon slowest September on sale".
Does that mean the slowest tier DC processor set to come out will be released in September? What about the fastest DC processor? Does this hint at other possible DC processors we haven't heard about yet?

Yup, the slowest versions go on sale in September, right before Haswell-E comes out.
(what the fuck do i know., though)

It probably means the latest they'll release DC is sometime in September. It doesn't make sense to not release the 4690k and 4790k together.

It's looking like that September release for DC info might be incorrect.

ASUS just released BIOS updates for all their Z87 boards this week to add Devil's Canyon support. Don't see why they would've rushed those out to the public right before the earlier June 2nd launch date, if they had several more months to work on them.

Guess we'll find out in a few days ;)

Pentium G3420 - 8GB AMD DDR3 2400 - Gigabyte Z97 SOC-Force - Dual GTX460-SLI

All Games are running at 1080p and a 120hz monitor with vsync on

Battlefield 4:

Settings
-Everything set to High except: Post Process-Medium - Terrain Decoration-Medium - AA Post - Low. SSAO

Solid Experience overall, can get a little hitchy at points though.

Dead Space 3:
Settings: High
First Time I played this game actually, Exhilarating intro! Ran pretty well, smooth for the most part.

Bioshock Infinite:

I Ran the benchmark and chose option 3 (Ultra Settings). Here are the average FPS:

Welcome Center - 49.67
Town Center - 67.32
Raffle - 62.9
Monument Island - 102.11
Overall - 64.21

Game itself is smooth and just as beautiful as when I ran it on my 3770k

Tomb Raider:

I ran it on Ultra Settings(No TressFX though)

Min: 68.0
Max: 99.2
Avg: 83.3

Game runs really nice, if not for the missing TressFX, it looks and plays identical to my 3770k/Dual GTX670 Machine.

I don’t own Titanfall, and don’t feel like installing Fear 3, my HDD is getting pretty full on this machine. The Crysis Games are still downloading.

I’m very impressed with this chip, and am happy recommend it to my friends, family and anybody really, who are getting into PC gaming. As a hold over processor and for a low-cost MediaPC, this chip is perfect.

^ Wow Rauelius, you're awesome. Thanks for checking that out for me. I'm waiting till next week and if the 4790k/4690k is not releasing for a while then I might snag a Pentium G3420 to hold me over a while.

Can the G3420 run Crysis? Yes it can! I just finished playing Crysis 3, ran beautifully! I set it to High across the board and it was smooth as silk.

OCing Haswell is about as rewarding as extracting milk from rocks. Wait for DC.

This I misunderstand maybe...

It seems many people are loving the Haswell. I know I am, going from stock 3.4 to a dead steady and stable 4.5 ghz overclock is quite rewarding for me. I upgraded from an old 965BE Phenom @3.8ghz, so imagine the performance increase I am seeing...

What i meant is that the OC headroom of haswell chips was, until DC release, lower than what we saw with 2500/2600k and 3770k. Your 4.5Ghz is around what 70% of the chips reach at max and going high end water will not help you, hence i said "rewarding as extracting milk from rocks"
