CUDA?

I'm just wondering if switching to Nvidia will benefit with the use of 3D apps such as Autodesk Maya, Mudbox, Zbrush, Photoshop, Premiere or such that take advantage of CUDA? I'm not talking about the professional Quadro cards vs AMD FirePro. I'm more interested about the regular gaming cards if Nvidia is a better choice to use for these applications. I know that some programs uses OpenGL that is supported by AMD. So far I know that The Foundry Mari is not supporting ATI at the moment or if ever.

Maya is only in certain 3rd party plugins, iirc. However, Maya is where Quattro cards stand out the most, vs Softimage (which bought heavily into Physx a long time ago - before nVidia even owned it) where quattro cards are not known to be much faster than similar GeForce cards. So I dunno what to say about that.

As for Photoshop, it uses OpenGL as of CS5. I'm not sure on later revisions. There probably is still that nVidia developed plugin somehwere.

Personally, I'm still using Photoshop CS5 and Softimage 2011, so... :p

Premiere uses CUDA for the hardware Mercury Engine and requires a 896MB or greater card. Many unsupported cards can be used by way of hack; info here. Just did this for a friend's build....had her get a 1GB GT440 (cheapest card I could find with a decent enough number of stream processors); worked great.

Photoshop and AfterEffects will use OpenGL for drawing to speed up rendering.

The 3D apps I have no firsthand knowledge of, sorry.

I've already been to this site and it's a good site. Seems like I'm going to stick with my AMD card for the time being since these 3D apps are split among Nvidia(Cuda) and AMD(OpenGl). Will probably switch back to Nvidia since it support both Cuda and OpenGL.
