Well, here's another mod for you all..... This one takes up that urge I originally had to make the Railgun. It's not a high-end machine by any means, these are the specs:
800 MHZ 133 FSB Pentium III, 256 MB, 18 GB laptop drive, gF2 32 MB, SB Live, and a decent PS. This is my son's rig. Like I said in another post, he's 7 and has been playing Q3 since he was about 2! I was gonna do a Star Wars Death Star, but this is easier and also dear to both his and my heart.
As you can see in the (dark) pic, the outer cover is designed to be just as close to the real blue flag as I could get. It has a reflective texture, so the acrylic went well with the theme. It's been heated in many spots and bent or folded to represent the fabric consistancy of a real flag. The entire cover was masked from behind like normal. But I started by masking off just a bit of the edge that will meet the pole. In the game, the seam is shown and the fabric reinforcement on this end is lighter in color. So I went over this area in white with the airbrush, being more liberal towards the edges of this area. The mask was removed and more white was applied over the high points of the folds and bumps in the glass. You can barely see them in these pics, I could have sprayed more and gotten away with it.
For the hardware, I had to dismember an old case for the scraps I would need. Drilling rivets is fun!
Then the hardware was applied to the backing after much tailoring to the folds in the mobo tray to fit both aluminum mount supports plus other stuff that was in the way. The whole mod started at noon today with the hardware and it was 10pm by the time the cover had been finished. That's not bad- and I had at least two hours worth of breaks....
