CS:S - Scripts considered as cheats?

what i mean is when people quickswitch, like they got the rifle out, shoot, qickswitch to pistol then back to rifle, i see people do this all the time in CS & DOD and its always with the bolt action rifles, because it skips the reloading animation\bolt animation. that goes for the AWM in CS, and K98/K98 Sniper in DOD. And more than 1/2 of the time they are standing still and not trying to move while the pistol is out.

Ok I don't care for DoD, but in CS, you can still do that, but it doesn't shoot any faster since there's a 1.5 second delay between the time you take out the awp and you scope. That delay still exists in CS: Source.

LOL so what now im supposed to purchase my weapons like a nub? Use my mouse cursor to select weapons thats a joke

who said anything about using a mouse cursor?

Now that I've read most of this thread, I understand what you guys are arguing about. Originally I thought it was going to be about speedhacks or autoaim scripts.
IMHO most scripts aren't cheating.

Buy Scripts = Not Cheating
Jump+Crouch script = Not Cheating. Hell, you had to do that in some single player games like Tomb Raider </oldschool> to get past some obstacles/puzzles
Manually switching Deagle -> Awp -> Deagle = Manually exploiting an in-game mechanism. Not really cheating cos it takes skill.
Deagle -> Awp -> Deagle Script = I hate it when others do it but it's not really cheating, just automating an exploit for an in-game mechanism.
Speedhack = Cheating
Autoaim = Cheating

my $.02

so you think if it takes skill to do, then its not a cheat, correct?

Until the publisher fixes the exploitable in-game mechanic and you're doing it manually not scripted it's not a cheat

Doing anything that wasn't intended by the developer is cheating, whether or not you want to admit it.

Unless, of course, they wish for you to sky-walk and do various other things that make absolutely no sense in the context of tactical squad-based games.

IMO awp/pistol/awp is the most retarted thing people do, heck they even do it in DOD w/sniper rifles, and on our server we BAN on the spot for it. Its an exploit that will never be fixed. Not an explot you say? well there has to be a reason people do it then. It skips the re-bolting animation and makes you fire faster, hence, why i call it an exploit.

besides, what the hell does the "P" in AWP stand for??? when i played CS it was the AWM "Arctic Warfare Magnum"

people these days...reasons like this is why i quit playing CS

Actually when you do quickswitch with bolt action snipers in DoD, it doesn't make you fire any faster then if you didnt quickswitch. Trust me on this I play as sniper and I quickswitch to my pistol all the time, not for faster shooting, but for increased move-ability and also snipers r easy prey for melee-ers, so the pistol comes in handy.

I have been following Counter-Strike news/history from back when it was beta 7.0 so I know a tiny bit about the implementation, or lack of, buy scripts.

Here are some FACTS (sorry no links):

1) Minh Le and/or Jess Cliffe (the creators of CS) originally WAS going to implement a FULL "buy script" into CS (ie: mapping buttons to buy a weapon/item). Today, there are buy scripts built into CS, but not very robust and customizable (probably because they wanted to keep it very simple). User made Buy Scripts are a lot better/customizable than the one included.

2) Creating your own buy scripts by way of mapping buy commands to your keypad via the "console" is allowed. Check the Scripting forum on http://www.forumplanet.com/counterstrike/.

3) "Buy Scripts" that can be downloaded (ie: pre-made) is essentially just someone elses buy script commands. The maker was kind enough to share it with those that don't know how to bind via the console. It's pure black and white.

4) The CPL and other leagues allow "buy scripts". Some even PROVIDE buy scripts.

My Blurbs:

1)The automatic buy command (which are just buy "packs")in CS isn't as customizable as the ones that you can get online. You can bind buy commands to any key you want and bind any item you want (grenades, kevlar, guns, pistols on separate keys).

FACT: Pressing 1 key to buy something over 2-3 keys is always faster. I can buy all grenades, primary weapon, secondary weapon, defuse kit, and ammo, all in one key stroke for each item. PLUS, I CAN MOVE WITHIN THE BUY ZONE WHILE BUYING USING THE BUY SCRIPTS. Doing it the regular way (B,*,*) requires extra key strokes and is always going to be 2-3 times slower simply because you are PRESSING EXTRA KEYS AND YOU PROBABLY WON'T BE MOVING WHILE BUYING! I don't care how fast you can type, you will always be slower in buying than someone with buy scripts.

FACT: Not all servers have that 5 second buy time and some don't even have that buy time at all! Every split second counts when RUSHING in CS and buy scripts help reduce time to buy. I've played in pubs and with other people for years. Those that don't use buy scripts will spend an extra second in the buy zone while i'm already running+buying at the same time. I'm ALWAYS the first one out.

2) Those that don't think "buy scripts" are helpful: try downloading/creating a buyscript and you will see that it's something that should be implemented in CS in the first place. (The included buy packs in CS do not count)

Depends on what scripts you're talking about. Buy scripts are fine. I can't think of any other scripts.

Using 16bit color mode in CS 1.6 is more cheating than using buy scripts will ever be.

For those that don't know, 16bit color mode in 1.6 enables you virtually see through smoke grenades. Smoke grenades appear only as a mist and the outline of the model is clearly visible.

Thanks for letting everyone know. I'm gonna play on 16 bit mode now

buy scripts were built into 1.6 AND cs:source. if you consider them cheating then you should have your head checked

I love the way people try and justify things as cheating.

"An unfair advantage"

Scripts can be made by all, theres no advantage gained by making a script within the confinds of the game, the scripting language should not allow anything unwanted to be done.

If one person can write a small script to switch to the deagle when they fire their awp then fine, if everyoen can do the same then its certainly not cheating. If other people are incapable of writing scripts then fair enough thats their problem. If someone doesn't know how to bind a defuse key it doesnt mean we should all stop using our own defuse keys because we have an advantage over somone that can't defuse, thats rediculas.

As long as you're not writing code to directly add too or alter the games actual code then you're fine.

Doesn't really matter since 90% of the people that play online, competitively anyways, use 16bit. Though they use 32bit at lan tournaments.

gosh this really did turn out to be a heated discussion. You know i dont see why one would want to use scripts or cheats for that matter. Its a game, and the person that is best at it is supposed to win. If i recall this right, this is how any sport is handled, or any other competition. Why are you guys so eager on using scipts? It Should make you proud when you win, without having used anyhting that would make it easier for you to do so.

Just in case i got anyone lost, and i tend to do so, my point is, that you shouldnt use anyhting that is not in the original game resources. It was not intended. Get it? Its simple :(

In real sports players cheat. They use these things called "steroids", yea and they are illegal. People cheat so that they can become better so that they can win.

Sports Leagues dont intend for players to use other type of "legal drugs" yet players take these types of steroids and protein shakes to become bigger and stronger. Is this cheating? Of course not.

Like wise a 3rd party buy script wasnt intended to be impletmented into CS/CS:S by Valve yet there they are. Does that make them illegal? Certainly not.

Well I just assumed because you said that using the number options was a form of cheating or whatever that the only other pausible option would be to use the mouse cursor? (which I wasnt sure if you were joking around about or not but now I realize that you were joking around about that)

CS:S has a built in buy script. Also CS:S has been coded so that sky-walking is no longer possible (of course after a few updates)

in my country steriods are illegal... dunno about you..

also the fact that everyone could make scripts, maybe not everybody can.. maybe some of the people out there, are not able to write scripts, the noobs for isntance, a lot of them dont even know what a script is. That would give you, if you were using scripts, an unfair advantage. Now dont tell me "they can learn it" becuase that would be the cheapest comment ever

Well firstly in my original post (non-edited and still hasnt been edited) I tell you that steroids here in America are illegal ;)

Secondly CS:S has a built in buy script! Now a nub probably doesnt know about this script while a more exp player does. So if what you are saying is true then I guess everybody except the nubs is cheating in CS:S? Im sorry if I have more knewledge about the game than a new comer. Thats like saying that because I have enough knewledge to save my money up for two rounds so I can buy a better gun then instead of buying a crappy one now and a crappy one later, while the nub goes ahead uses no sort of money mangement what so ever is cheating.

Come on theres no way anybody can even come close to claiming that a buy script is a form of cheating.
