Just want peoples opinions...

what types of scripts are considered as cheating.

ones that aim for peoples heads... :p

If your talkin bout buy scripts, then no. If your talking about controlled firing scripts, then yes.

Explain what ones you want an opinion on, your question is too vague.

I think it doesnt matter what kind of scripts u use...

They are all cheating, because it gives you an advantage you shouldnt have. Plus a buy script is kind of unnessesry, as there is the nice button "F2"

Well the answer is simply debatable, in my view yes scripts gives u advantages. In some point yes it can be cheating, i mean i remember in the early days of 1.5 or 1.6 in a small custom map games, a buy script is very usefull infact can be classfied as cheating, as it allowed the player to purchase gun before others[time delay before round starts], hence an unfair advantage and i remembered that time, nobody knew how script worked; surely the high scores were easily achievable by me :D. But seeing from now the latest source CS, buy script is not needed and mostly other script would be classified as "cheating" i guess, i mean those non recoil scripts surely are cheating.

Perhaps Mauli is right, they are all cheating giving an advantage even the slightest one like duck jump or silent toggle. that is if ur definition of cheating is having advatange compared to other player. Well thats just my 0.02..

Any scripts that affect your gameplay is illegal and considered cheating in CAL. Since buy scripts do not affect your gameplay at all, they are legal.

im talkin about burst fire scripts, awp/pistol/awp switches etc

I know buy scripts arn't cheats, I cant see a crouch jump being an advantage since u can do that by your self.

Buy-scripts do affect gameplay. You instantly start off with what you need instead of having to go through the process of deciding. That immediately puts you at an unfair advantage. By the time the other team is done buying, you've got the map covered or you've already killed them (Since CS maps are ridiculously tiny).

i dont see why u would want to have a buy script in the first place. In cs source you can press f2 and that buys your last set of stuff...

As i said before, scripts are always cheating. If the function was intended to be used by valve, then they would have incooperated into the game. They havent, thus its cheating.

Now, once could say, but mods are designed by others.. well yes they are, but every person has the same abilities then, therefore it evens out. If everybody wallhacks, well everbody knows were everybody is. that gets rid of the advantage.

You get what i am getting at?

WickedAngel you're a moron... #1 there is this thing called freeze time on pretty much every server, it makes a designated time at the start of the round for buying where nobody can move so everyone gets to leave spawn at the same time, #2 you CANNOT "get the map covered or already kill the other team" before they buy unless they are complete retards.

Ah, the true stroke of a genius; insulting others when you truly don't know what you're talking about.

The freeze-time is only a matter of a few seconds. If you're fighting against players with any sort of skill, you're going to need a wide variety of equipment. The few seconds that you waste buying those needed items can be the difference between life and death.

Pull your head out of your ass, child.

If someone can't buy in a few seconds it's safe to say they're not a very good player and won't be able to take advantage of getting out of the spawn as quickly as possible.

Getting out of the spawn quickly without the equipment you need is just as dangerous as taking too long and getting everything that is necessary to survive.

Dude while your dead for like 2mins I think you should have been smart enough to think about what weapons you want to buy for the next round. It shouldnt take you more than a sec to go through the numbers for what weapons and equip you want.

Anyways about the only thing you need to buy is a rifle or whatever everything else you can find in the feild ;)

I don't consider buy scripts to be cheating. Even if I don't have a buy script for acertain weapon and equipment, I can still buy all I need in about 2 seconds because I know all the necessary sequence of buttons you need. When I am having clan scrims, the freeze time is usually about 10 or more seconds anyway, and that should be MORE than enough time than is needed for people to load up (especially during clan matches, when experienced players compete).

Are you aware that there is a built in function that automatically buys a preset configuration for you at the touch of a button? You can also rebuy whatever equipment you bought last round. Both of these are built into the game itself, meaning all players can choose to use these features if they want to.

Even without these features, the wait period at the start of the round for most servers should be sufficient to buy whatever you need. Even in the days before the wait time was implemented, most players could easily get whatever they needed before they were in any danger.

You're supposed to have a 10 second freeze time at the beginning of every round. That's the default.

Buy scripts do not affect gameplay. Not competitively and rarely in pubs.

Buy scripts are not an issue. hell in CZ you can buy up to 4 preset loadouts, that are customizeable by the end user. In source there is no need, as mentioned earlier if you cannot get a full loadout in 10 seconds you need to practice and familiarize yourself with buy menus better.

lol... it takes me a good... second to buy all of my stuff with buy scripts. If i dont use my buy scripts, it takes me a good 2 seconds. There is no difference as long as you know the numbers which every decent player knows by heart.

But the scripts that FPS was talking about are considered cheating in leagues and pubs by many admins.

um yeah wtf you talking about. oyu have like 5 seconds to buy your stuff and I have never run out of time doing that. b82b43b6 = colt + armor

There is no way you can kill someone while they are stilll buying unless they are like reading the description for every weapon and equipment.

i use different skins. i have one for terrorists that makes them all look like a wierd guy with bright yellow head. it makes it really easy to tell who is on your team.

yes i consider it cheating, but its cool because no one knows you are doing it

Anybody with any sort of skill doesn't use the VGUI menus to buy their stuff, they use the numbers. How to buy a Colt, Desert Eagle, Armor + Helmet, Defuse Kit, 2 Flashbangs, Grenade, Smoke Grenade and ammo in less than 3 seconds:

b 4 3
b 1 4
o 2
o 6
o 4
o 3
o 3
o 5
, . , . , . , . , . , . , .

It doesn't strike me as too hard.

If it was cheating, it wouldn't have been put in there by the developers. If anything, buy scripts are the most legitimate use for the scripting engine.

Cheating online is very grey. It is NOT black and white but here is what I believe.

Here is my definition of cheating: Is Valve going to ban you for doing this?

Buy Scripts: NO
Run/Walk Toggle Scripts: NO
Jump and Crouch Scripts: NO
AWP/DEAGLE Switch: NO (I don't use these though....I think I am faster than the script)

All of those are just ways of making the game more complete. They should be in there and they aren't. Everything in there you could do with your keyboard on your own! You could buy things super fast if you wanted manually. You could just hold down your walk button. You could always remember to hit crouch when you jump. Awp/deagle switch is easy and better imo to do on your own. Now things that control burst are iffy. You could do that on your own yes but now you are not only (directly) affecting yourself, you are affecting the bullets which affect another player.

Now, if everyone had those scripts would you consider it cheating? Like if valve put those into the game. No of course not. Now if Valve burried some kind of wall hack into the game, everyone had it though, would you consider it cheating? YES.

Please people. If you know how to play the game you don't need to use any of those (Actually since CS:S I don't use any because of the very nice auto buy and rebuy buttons).

The bottom line is this:
What Valve considers cheating is what we should consider cheating. (Note this does not apply to like CAL and such because they can decide what is cheating...this is for pubs.)

IMO awp/pistol/awp is the most retarted thing people do, heck they even do it in DOD w/sniper rifles, and on our server we BAN on the spot for it. Its an exploit that will never be fixed. Not an explot you say? well there has to be a reason people do it then. It skips the re-bolting animation and makes you fire faster, hence, why i call it an exploit.

besides, what the hell does the "P" in AWP stand for??? when i played CS it was the AWM "Arctic Warfare Magnum"

people these days...reasons like this is why i quit playing CS

It can be done by just pressing 2 then 1 very quickly......now would you call someone hitting 2 then 1 very fast a cheater? If I came on your server and MANUALLY hit 2 then 1 you wouldn't notice if it was a script or not and would ban me. That is extremely lame imo. It is not cheating because its hitting two buttons on a keyboard...come on now, next you are going to say i cheat by using the primary mouse button.

EDIT: Also I'd like everyone to know that I don't even play cs so it doesnt matter. I've played source once so far. Part of my reason for switching to this laptop (see sig) was to stop me from playing games, spend more time working and with my girlfriend.

Hmm, Buyscripts do not affect gameeplay if buytime is enabled. and as for deciding? uh you know what your buying when you hit the key anyway. Plus in leagues buyscripts are only allowed to buy 1 item. I have a key bound to each weapon, ammo, and equipment.

yes they do. anything that a player cannot do manually as fast as you can do with a script is a cheat, thats the bottom line. its just a widely accepted cheat, thats all.

AWP = Arctic Warfare Police

And you can't quickswitch with the awp anymore.in 1.6. The only reason I do it is because I shoot 1 bullet, then switch to my pistol so I can actually MOVE, then switch back to my awp. Rinse. Repeat.

The purpose of the quickswitch is not to shoot faster. Infact, it doens't shoot any faster, it's actually slower. It's so that after the shot, you can regain movability and be able to run again with a pistol as opposed to an awp slowing you down.

This is just stupid. Buy scripts are not cheats. They are scripts. There is a difference.

If buy scripts are cheats, then so is jumping. You can bind jump to any button you want, just like you can bind buying a gun to any button you want. If it was a cheat, do you think it'd be a part of them game? Any combination of guns can be bought in about 4-5 seconds (depending on your ping), so there is no hurt when someone has their guns in 1-2 seconds when there is 10 seconds of freezetime.

ouch, the stupid bug just bit you. jumping is one function. buying a gun is several functions. if you are doing something with a script that no person can do without one, it is a cheat.

Define several functions.

have you forgotten how to buy things the normal way? B # # etc?

you cannot buy something without at least issuing 2 commands, unless you have a script. jumping involves one key. why do i even have to explain this simple fact?

Um, even with no buy time I can usually buy a full loadout on the run out of the buy area. As someone mentioned before, if you know the numbers, you can bang out the sequence quite quickly.

Because you're wrong. There must be "stupid bugs" in your house as well. When you're in a buyzone, go to console and type m4a1 (i think that's it). One command and it gets you an m4. Unless only my version has that built in because I'm a cheater.

but not as quickly as someone with a script. thats the point.

Actually the stupid bug just bit you now ;) damn thing must be contagious :)

All you need to do is press one button to buy all your equipment. CS:S has a built in buy script its called the "F2" key.

Also like I stated before while your waiting like 2 minutes for the next round to start up you have all that time to figure out what weapons and equipment you want to buy. For me personaly it takes me less than a second to buy a gun, the ammo for the gun, and a flak jacket (and no I dont exaggerate on the less than a second thing if takes you longer than I feel sorry for your slow ass :p )

yes i know there are built in commands for shortcuts, and that you can bypass manually pressing b # #. but those are also cheats. made by valve, but they are cheats. lol. i guess it has to do with honor.

what i mean is when people quickswitch, like they got the rifle out, shoot, qickswitch to pistol then back to rifle, i see people do this all the time in CS & DOD and its always with the bolt action rifles, because it skips the reloading animation\bolt animation. that goes for the AWM in CS, and K98/K98 Sniper in DOD. And more than 1/2 of the time they are standing still and not trying to move while the pistol is out.

LOL so what now im supposed to purchase my weapons like a nub? Use my mouse cursor to select weapons thats a joke

gosh this really did turn out to be a heated discussion. You know i dont see why one would want to use scripts or cheats for that matter. Its a game, and the person that is best at it is supposed to win. If i recall this right, this is how any sport is handled, or any other competition. Why are you guys so eager on using scipts? It Should make you proud when you win, without having used anyhting that would make it easier for you to do so.

Just in case i got anyone lost, and i tend to do so, my point is, that you shouldnt use anyhting that is not in the original game resources. It was not intended. Get it? Its simple :(
