SO with the rig in my sig, I can only get semi-playable setting with Crysis:Warhead all settings on minimum. SO sad. I will try the new 8.9 drivers and report back.

good job devs. false advertising ftw? what happened?
Crytek NEVER claimed the game would run on Enthusiast levels with anything less than a 260![]()
All you guys complaining and trying to play this game with an 8800 on anything over gamer settings need to get a clue.
Excuse me? I have to put it on mainstream at 1280 x 1024 to get it to run smoothly.
You need to get facts and then a clue before you go assuming.

It ran a hell of a lot better for me than the original. might be an ATI issue.

And here is their press release talking about said PC

Hmm, lets see what is says about this PC...
As gamers know, the GPU is the most important component for any gaming system, said Ujesh Desai, general manager of desktop GeForce products at NVIDIA. Weve worked closely with Crytek to ensure that Crysis Warhead runs smoothly across a broad spectrum of GeForce solutions. The Ultra Optimized PC shows that gamers will have a great Crysis experience at an affordable price if they optimize their PC with the right GPU/CPU combination.
Notice it says NOTHING about running the damn game on Enthusiast settings
I got my clue. I just gave you yours.

"...capable of running the game silky smooth, with all the bells and whistles turned on" This with an 8600GT.

I think he saw skadebos post and got yours and skadebos comments confused. You aren't very bright, are you?
Please quote and refresh us all where, in any of my posts, did I expect to run this game on enthusiast settings.
So you are putting words into my posts.
Secondly, I've read a couple of reviews in which the writer played the game with a 8800gt and said it ran decently 1600 x 1050. So of course I expect it to run sort of good on those settings, as that is the card I have.
Cliffs:
You insert words into my posts
You implied I expected great game play on the best settings
Reviews said I should be able to run it decently
how are the guys with just 2 gigs playing this game on higher settings? I was at 377mb ram usage in the task manager before I started the game and alt tabbed out and was at 1.94gb. thats just on mainstream DX9 settings at 1024x768.

800mb total including the game and all other things running? sorry but theres no way.weird, mine only hits around 750-800mb when i alt tab'd. But my frames are crap as stated above. Hopefully im upgrading my comp completely in the next month, so by then i hope everything will play nicely.
wtf is their problem? why release a game that so few can play as the devs intended. longevity? more sales when the game is 2 yrs old in the bargain bin?
Finally, we get to the part of the review everyone wants to know about: performance. Crytek claims that Warhead is better optimized than Crysis, and everything I experienced confirms this. In fact, what's amazing is that Warhead not only runs better than Crysis, it looks better than Crysis. Keep in mind, a year has passed since Crysis shipped and there still isn't a non-Crytek game that approaches it in terms of visuals. Warhead features more definition to the terrain, and the lighting and particle effects have gotten big boosts. I found myself walking through jungle with the morning light piercing the canopy and had to stop and just absorb the moment. It had a level of atmosphere that I can't recall from the first game.
I played Warhead on a high-end machine with a quad core CPU and the latest Nvidia graphics card at high resolution (1680x1050) with all the details set to Enthusiast, which is essentially very high. It looked cutting edge and the frame rate was solid. Next, I checked the game on a slightly older PC with a two-year old 8800GTS and I was still able to crank it to Enthusiast settings and the same resolution and get solid results. Finally, I checked it out on the "$700 PC" that Crytek and EA have been touting. It really is a $700 machine built on the latest mainstream parts (the video card is a 9800GT), and I was able to play the final boss battle at the same resolution and at Enthusiast settings and get solid frame rates. I also tried it the Gamer setting, which is essentially high, and the frame rate was buttery smooth. You do lose some visual quality stepping down from Enthusiast, but even at Gamer Warhead still looks better than almost every game out
I'm experiencing the same thing everybody else is. Rather than being optimized as claimed, it actually seems to run WORSE than Crysis! What gives?
My (recently built) rig is a Q6600, 4GB RAM, and 9600GT btw. Maybe not much by this forum standards but pretty darn beefy imo. Oh yeah, I also have a 22" monitor so play at 1680X1050
Especially after reading reviews that claim it runs better. Direct quote from IGN review.

So he's directly saying that at 1680, an 8800GTS can run the game at Enthusiast. BS. The 9600GT is at least slightly more powerful than a GTS I think (assuming a GTS 640 type card? He said two years old?). Instead mine runs it at 10-15 FPS.
Then he also clearly states he played it on the $700 PC, which has a 9800GT aka 8800GT, not much more powerful than my card, at Enthusiast at 1680X1050 smoothly..again NO FREAKING WAY. Again I am getting 8-15 FPS at those settings, not even close to playable.
And its not playable on Gamer either! FPS in the low 20's there..If I let the game pick my settings, it picks all mainstream, and sure enough, the FPS is 30-40 and very playable there. Heck, my goal with Crysis 1 was to play on all high settings..I would pull upper 20's in DX9 there with my GT OCed to 750mhz..so high was pretty close to playable, yet gamer on warhead is unplayable.
It looks great on mainstream too though, I'm wondering if it was optimized to look much better on mainstream than the old medium. There's no guarantee the settings are directly comparable..I dont have enough experience with the old Crysis to say for sure, but mainstream looked pretty darn good to me on warhead.
800mb total including the game and all other things running? sorry but theres no way.
I just checked 4 more times in task manager at the same spots in the game. DX9 uses around 1.94gb, DX10 uses less at just 1.65gb. so that means the actual game is using around 1.6gb in DX9 and around 1.3gb for DX10 because at was around 370mb in task manger when when starting the game.
I just looked at the task manager total but I will take a look at the process itself.here you go

thats taken after i was 5 minutes into the 2nd level, so the game was running and all i did was alt-tab and grab a screenie. And thats DX 10 with everything on Enthusiast.
This whole game is an advertisement for Nvidia. And some people have literally bought Nvidia cards just to play this stupid advertisement. I am surprised they don't have in-game ads for Nvidia. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the "Christmas gifts" in Warhead said "Game not running so hot? Get another GTX280, only from Nvidia!"
And not any ATi card.![]()
Ironic how Crysis was going to be CPU limited and needed Intel Quad cores when Intel was a major sponsor. I guess they can't pedal that shit when its been proven a huge lie.
I wouldnt call it an ATI thing, it's running like shit on my 9600GT.
Especially since I dont recall Nvidia having any particular advantage in Crysis 1, I'd doubt your theory.
here you go
