Crysis Warhead PC Specs Explained

Chris Remo, formerly of Shacknews, visited Crytek and got the lowdown on the specs for those Warhead PCs that the company talked about months ago (link). Apparently the $699 Warhead PCs will be able to run the game on high settings thanks to a 2.66GHz C2D e7300, NVIDIA 9800GT and 2GB of memory.

Eventually, they began referring to it as “the Warhead PC,” and used it as a way to force efficiency and optimization: if frames were dropping on the Warhead PC on a high graphics level, the team would tweak the game to better scale to the hardware. (I can attest to the results, having played through a full level today and being impressed by the consistent framerate and visuals, before being told it was a “Warhead PC.”)

is that running on high just inside a room with nothing in it? :p

But what is the res? I notice they always say "with high settings" but never get around to mention at what res.

Any chance they can take these uber updates to Warhead and update Crysis again so I can play on High settings through the whole game? That might get me to hold my interest and actually buy Warhead :D

Hell I ran Crysis no problem on medium settings with my stock e6300 + 8800GTS @ 1280.

dont forget, High settings in Warhead may not be as good looking as in Crysis . It may be more a medium settings of Crysis .

Use the custom config tweaks. Improve performance and visuals in Crysis...

why would they lower the graphics settings of the game... FUCK BULL SHIT PEOPLE WHO BITCH ABOUT THERE STUPID COMPUTERS THAT CAN NOT RUN THE GAME.. play in medium for god sakes

Maybe because they actually want to sell copies. The sales of Crysis were less than stellar.

whats the point.. if they made high look like medium to make people like you to stop complaining..

thats why you can choose.. low, medium, high..

why screw the people who can plan on high people of people how think their epenis is smaller because they have to select medium instead of high

sorry.. let me correct.

I haven't kept up with ALL the updates... but they were making optimizations to Warhead, correct? If they consider "optimizations" to just lower the graphics, then no, I agree there's no point. I'm saying if there are ACTUAL optimizations that make it run better, I would like to see those in the original Crysis....

even on medium on 1024 X 768 it ran like shit for me, nothing to do with e-penis. Unless you have an uber machine, the primary selling point of the game (ZOMG GFX) is unavailable.

Why don't all game developers do it like this? It just makes so much sense and is similar to how console games are developed - since they have a "cap", they can't just be lazy and use a poorly optimized engine and hope that better hardware will come along to solve the problem for them. PC games should also be developed like this.

Only problem is that they need to optimize for both ATI and Nvidia, so they really should have two "Warhead PCs", one with a 4850 and one with the 9800 and make sure both run the game equally well.

Actually you would need four machines then to test AMD/Intel CPUs and AMD/nVidia GPUs. Actually you would need eight to test XP/Vista, CPU, and GPU combinations. Then there is the whole Linux/Mac thing...

If the best you can do with the computer in your sig is 1024x768 at medium, and it ran like shit, you have some major problems. I was gaming at 1280x1024 at medium on an Opty 185@3 ghz, and an ATI x1950XT. Since then I've stepped up to a Q6600 @ 3 ghz and an 8800GT and I have been able to turn some stuff up to high.

Linux and mac cant run d3d, well macs can with boot camp but thats besides the point.

That is the part that kills me...they stopped updating Crysis and left folks hanging and had NO problem saying it was so they could focus their resources on Warhead. Huh? Why would I buy ANOTHER game from you so you can stop supporting it two months after I have it...:(

Crytek's thinking is

It makes sense. Invest the fixes in a new product, get that revenue, then retrofit Crysis 1 with those changes in a patch.

How would they make a patch for crysis when they have already stopped supporting it?

Did I miss some announcement? AFAIK Crysis 1 is still a selling product so they're not going to stop supporting it. What I recall them saying is that they would re-optimise the cryengine2 [engine] for Crysis 2 and *then* update crysis "1" with those changes.

My point is that this approach makes a lot more sense to the business, and to existing customers waiting for Warhead. It just delays people still playing original crysis.

But, I could be wrong-- this is what I recall reading and it made sense to me.

Why do all the Crysis threads essential devolve into pointless bickering?
