Crysis - Designed as a trilogy

I too will be glad to see more of this engine.

Also--quit blaming Crytek for building an engine ahead of its time, and start blaming Nvidia and AMD for not putting out something better than what we had over a year ago. I think this is the biggest drought for high-end graphics I've seen since 3d graphics cards first came out.

Not quite, but it's getting there. When the Geforce 2 GTS came out it was along time before we saw something really new. The Geforce 3 was at least a year behind the release of the afore mentioned Geforce 2 GTS. At that time there was little else in the way of decent competition. ATI and 3DFX didn't really have much going on at the time as I recall.

Then we had basically been stuck on the 9700Pro with only minor upgrades just as we had been left with during the Geforce 2 GTS's time. Then there was the Geforce 6 series which remained dominant for a year. ATi wasn't as quiet but they never could trump the 6800Ultra's in SLI.

Not everything needs to be a trilogy. It seems the entertainment industry has lost touch with the focused, self-contained story. I guess grinding out follow-ups saves money
Absolutely! They already have the game engine, the game editor, and a huge library of game data. Compared to building from scratch it's much less expensive and they can charge the same price for the product. The name Crysis already familiar to everyone so marketing a sequel is as easy as letting people know it exists - no need to explain what it is and impress people.

Sequels are all about money, and not just with video games. Prison Break is a show that could have ended very nicely in one season if they wanted, but with a huge fanbase they know there's tons of money to be made in extending the series. To me, the first season had a solid premise and a definite plan for the show, but the second season felt like an uninspired mess with no purpose except to prolong viewership. Shows like these will continue to go on until they get so crappy or repetitive that they get cancelled or just forgotten.

I wish more programming had a definite ending to tie things together, because a good ending is my favorite part. Consider Cowboy Bebop, which was awesome but I'm so glad it was only as long as it was.

I totally agree that the entertainment industry should return to self-contained stories

People said the same about Valve and look how many people are still buying the HL2 eps. Are you TRULY surprised they did this with this type of game engine? Why the fuck would they give you the full story when the machines that will be running this game suck ass? Wouldn't you want to A. make more money off of the masterpiece of a game engine and B. make it so when the story continues with the next installments that more people will be able to enjoy the product? Seriously think it through before you go on a typical "WHAT?!?! NOT THE WHOLE STORY?!?! OH CRYTEK CAN DIE THEY'RE NOT GETTING ANY OF MY MONEY EVER AGAIN!!"

Umm, how can I answer this, I know,

Did they do this shit to FARCRY ? the farcry engine was fukin great yet they saw fit to complete the game then, tell me, have you even completed crysis and if you have were you not fucking pissed at the stupid ass way that it ended ?

And am sorry, I dunno about your machine, but my machine doesnt suck ass and can play crysis in dx9 mode maxed out with 2xAA and the game is as smooth as the proverbial babies ass, if I were to install vista I am sure it could do similar but without the AA. Also remember when farcry came out hardly any pc could max it out either, it wasnt til a good year or so later that farcry shone in all its brilliance.

Crysis is rank, ok it looks good, but the game itself is shite, no amount of eye candy can turn a shit game into a good game.

As for HL2, I didnt think much of that either, ok it also looked nice but it wasnt my type of game, but hey I must be an idiot to not like HL2 and crysis right ? I also must be an idiot to want a complete game for my money.

And your stupid ass question, " why the fuck should they give us the full story"

BECAUSE THATS WHAT PEOPLE WANT AND WHAT PEOPLE ARE PAYING FOR.

That's what you want but you can't speak for everybody.

I personally would like to see two more installments of Crysis, simply because the engine rules so much and I liked the gameplay. Also there was an interview out with Cavet Yerli, Roy Taylor and gamespot.com where Yerli said Crysis was part of a Trilogy. That interview was available to day of crysis release if not sooner. I was reading all the gossip on Crysis and saw that mentioned, and I still bought it!

Farcry was a rushed game, it had a ballsack crap ending also. So maybe they realized in order to make a better ending they needed to stretch the game out more so you get more of the wow effect and they can develop the storyline. My opinion of course :)

Crysis is a disapointment, it's a very short game.
It have good graphics, but there's no hardware to run that, so when hardware come out with enough power to run it, better games came out and we lost interest on crysis.
There's no point releasing a game that run like ass with existing hardware, unreal 3 engine for example it's not so visually appealing but it's very optimized and run on today's hardware, and there's some very good game that use it.
In my personal opinion, crysis is simple a farcry with better graphics, with no inovations.

Dude... can't you come up with some different excuse? I mean honestly... this is getting old. The game looks, and performs great on current hardware. But since you can't play it at the highest setting, you're knocking it? Anyone with a lower power computer can say they can play any other game that comes out now but not Crysis. Crysis was made that way so it'll be relevant down the road. Which is something that little games can do these days.

I was pleased with how Crysis ended. It let me know that future installments were over the horizon. It let me know that I have another Crysis game to look forward to. I personally can't wait to go back into the sphere and start killing aliens and KPA in a frozen tropical island setting.

And am sorry, I dunno about your machine, but my machine doesnt suck ass and can play crysis in dx9 mode maxed out with 2xAA and the game is as smooth as the proverbial babies ass, if I were to install vista I am sure it could do similar but without the AA.

My machine doesn't suck ass either and I can play Crysis only at 1680x1050 with most settings on high and no AA. It looks fantastic and plays quite smooth. I don't know what your getting at here.

Also remember when farcry came out hardly any pc could max it out either, it wasnt til a good year or so later that farcry shone in all its brilliance.

This is true. What's your point?

Crysis is rank, ok it looks good, but the game itself is shite, no amount of eye candy can turn a shit game into a good game.

You are entitled to your opinion. I rather enjoyed Crysis and look forward to playing it again as well as the sequels which are hopefully on the horizon.

As for HL2, I didnt think much of that either, ok it also looked nice but it wasnt my type of game, but hey I must be an idiot to not like HL2 and crysis right ?

Ok, you didn't like HL2 or Crysis. Ok fine. No one said you should or that you had to. (That I recall anyway.)

I also must be an idiot to want a complete game for my money.

You are actually paying for a gaming experience. I think you are too tightly wrapped to enjoy yourself that's all. It's unfortunate that you didn't enjoy the experience, but it's up to the game developers to decide what the content of that game will be and how it will end. I felt Crysis was complete, and felt that HL2 was as well. They just left it open to continue the story as well as bridge the gap for future volumes of the game. I'm a big fan of episodic gaming. I hope the trend continues.

And your stupid ass question, " why the fuck should they give us the full story"

BECAUSE THATS WHAT PEOPLE WANT AND WHAT PEOPLE ARE PAYING FOR.

That may be what some people want, but you are paying for a game. No where in the EULA does it say that you are entitled to a complete story. Do you get pissed off when movies are done triliogy style? I don't. Hopefully games and movies done in triliogy format have a story so grand and so large it can't fit into one volume. We should encourage this.

I wish there were fewer games desperately trying for franchise status. This is sort of a poor example, but I like how Call of Duty 4, despite being fourth in the series, told a complete and self-contained story. No cliffhangers or loose threads demanding a sequel.

Ultra nationalists give durka durkas a bomb, You try to stop them. Complete and self contained doesn't always mean it won't completely suck my balls.

Oh c'mon, comparing COD4's story to Crysis is like comparing a Tom Clancy novel to a childrens 'Choose your own' adventure book. Sure The latter has an open ended means to an end, but it lacks any sophistication or depth.
