Crucial Ballistix problems.. voltage?

I was having problems with my Ballistix (2x512, DDR400) getting hard boots and such at 2-2-2-5. I am at 2-3-2-8 right now (One of the numbers is a 3, rest are 2's.. I totally forget which ones :p) and it's not giving me any issues, but it's bothering me because the ram is rated at 2-2-2-5. The voltage on my BIOS shows 2.8v in red, which makes me weary of increasing it that far, even though I've heard that it's made for 2.8v, is this true? Will upping the voltage perhaps help my timings as well?

I've been having issues with overclocking as well.. the ram won't even go past 210FSB at things like 4-4-4-8, could this be why? Or am I in need of an RMA :(

you might try lowering your voltage to 2.6V I had the same problem as you but with kingston hyperx. When I lower my voltage to 2.6V it does lower timings and faster FSB.

is this TCCD ram? if so, definitely back up the vdimm. i did so with mine, from 2.85v to 2.7, and its much more stable now.

Crucial rate their ram @ 2.8v, anything less and you are asking for trouble. The timings are 2-3-2 for 939 boards, most A64s have a hard time running @ 2-2-2.

Overclocking isnt guarenteed, if you pass memtest @ 200FSB Crucial wont accept an RMA for it. I have the PC4000 version, and it runs 2-3-2 @ 200 and 2.5-3-3 @ 250 no problem at all.

Alright, the flashing red lights in the BIOS at 2.8v just made me a little jumpy, don't want to go starting any fires or anything :p

I'll go try using 2.8v at doing a memtest or two to see how it holds up at 2-3-2, and actually I just checked at I'm at 2.5-2-2 (TCL is 2.5, dunno what number that is in order :p) and it's stable, so I'll up the voltage and play around. Thanks for the advice, I'll post back if I have any issues.

afaik crucial only uses micron chips.

It's not TCCD, it's been proven Crucial's stuff actually responds very well to higher voltage and you should run it at what it's rated at. Be easier to provide advise regarding the OC if you told us what mobo you're running too... Not in the sig.

It's a K8N Neo2 Platinum... and I can't seem to OC at all really.. it keeps locking up... I'm at 210x12 right now, but any more FSB wouldn't boot, even at 3-3-3 :(

You've got any SATA drives besides your Raptors? Maybe the opticals? And on which SATA ports do you have the Raptors plugged in? Ports 1 and 2 are not locked along with the PCI bus and will result in corruption/crashes when you OC past the 210/220 mark. Ports 3 & 4 (the ones by the AGP card) are locked. Otherwise it could just be heat, what's the cooler on the FX? Have you tried lowering the multiplier while raising the FSB?

Sata 1 and 2 aren't locked?....

*dies*

Well then, I'm guessing that's the problem right there. I'll try reaching ports 3 / 4 when I get home tomorrow, I never knew that at ALL, god damn. Well then, I really can't believe that one. I'll post back with results when I get home, thank you for that information Impulse, you're my savoir :D

FX is using stock, and I've tried tons of different combinations with FSB / multi, and I'm guessing it's the fact that the Raptors are in 1 / 2. I hope they can reach 3 and 4, they're far away :(

The lack of a lock on 3 and 4 is a problem common to all the nForce3 boards and won't ever be solved thru a BIOS update (can't be done), not sure if nForce4 has addressed this. G'luck with re-arranging your cables so you can get the best out of the board, shouldn't be too hard.
