ELKHART — A longtime Elkhart audio manufacturing plant will be phased out over the next several months the company announced Thursday.
Crown Audio, a division of Harman Professional, which makes various audio devices for professional settings such as concert venues, will close its Elkhart plant, located at 1718 W. Mishawaka Rd. over the next several months, according to site leader Marc Kellom.
The company is working on consolidating dozens of plants around the world to become a more efficient company, Kellom said.
"At the division level, not just at the Elkhart level, we've been facing some serious business challenges the last several years," he said. "We need to just try and get ourselves into a more agile position, one of our problems is we're spread out across several dozen sites around the world."
The company will be closing around half its sites worldwide, Kellom said, throughout this restructuring and consolidation project.
RIP Harman. I hope Samsung enjoys the patents that they bought so that they could get a jump start into the dashboards of tomorrow's cars.
