Crosshair Problems?

Hey guys. I just build myself a new system and I can't seem to stop it from rebooting. I have the Crosshair, a 2 gig 5-5-5-12 kit from OCZ, and a 4600+. Using the latest drivers for the mobo and have updated the BIOS. Vid card is an Asus 7900 GT TOP Edition with the 91.47 driver. It was a fresh install and is all patched up.

Now the problem is whenever I defrag, it reboots or locks up. Also when I watch DVDs using the latest WinDVD it spontaniously reboots. I've been to afraid to game much, but I'll run 3dMark 06 to see if that crashes it.

I'm not running in SLI, and my PSU is an Antec NeoHE 500. I do NOT have the 8 prong power plug connected, just the 4 with the black placeholder still in. (I didn't think it'd need all 8 to be plugged in if I wasn't running in SLI.)

Any ideas you can offer up would be appreciated as this is driving me crazy.

K need more info, what make and model of motherboard, are you overclocking ? You gave a good list of equipment but any other details about the computers config might give me a clue.

Interesting that it occues both during heavy hard drive use and when watching a DVD not very related activities, this could be hard to figure out.

As I said, I have an Asus Crosshair, and no I'm not overclocking until I can get it to stop crashing at default first.

I played a few games last night, but it didn't crash.

Can you get a CPU temp reading from the Bios? Even though it seems unlikely try running hard drive diagnostics, from the HD manufacture. As always, try with the bare minimum of equipment, take out anything not required to boot. Check for irq conflicts in device manager. or try swaping parts out to test with.

I too have a Crosshair that intermittently boots every 10-15 minutes. I am not overclocking either. I have an ATI X1900AIW video card.

These reboots happen at anytime, regardless of what I'm doing, even if I'm just sitting at the windows desktop. The CPU temp is about 85F, the mobo was a little higher, maybe 115F, but I don't really remember. It was very well below overtemp levels and the ASUS Probe program never blew an alarm.

I found a thread on the Asus website forums of another guy with the same problem, as well as some other scattered around the web. He was advised to raise the DDR Control Voltage to what his memory is rated for. It defaults to about 1.9V, my memory is rated to be run at 2.1V. The advising post also metioned that the CPU core voltage should be raise by about .25V. My core was at about 1.35V. I went as high as 1.5V, but I believe my chip is rated for 1.4V (Athlon 64 3800, single core), so I didn't really want to go higher.

That put my random reboots to about 30 minutes apart. I've only had the mobo for a few days, so I'm going to return it and get another model.
