Crossfire Q

No. The only reason for multiple bridges is for 3-way and quad crossfire configurations using single-GPU cards.

My 4870x2's only have one bridge connector and I believe that is the case for the 5970s as well.

That being said, on my 4850 crossfire rig I keep both bridges connected. No reason not to.
 
I put on Zalman VF1000s and the little heatpipe nubs sticks out a hair two far to put on the second bridge. It will go on put it pulls the card down and system doesn't run stable.
