So recently picking up a hd5870 that worked amazingly I decided to grab another for crossfire. But after installing my performance seems less having 2 cards than just running one  MW2 seems sloppy and fps will dip in source games from the 200's to 30 fps for a moment every other second. So right now all my games are running pretty rough.

I'll try to do a little more trouble shooting on my own.. I'll try running the cards both single I guess : / see if i just have a bad card or something? I've never got GSOD or BSOD since having them..

i7 860 @ 3.8ghz
HIS HD5870's
P55 motherboard.. I believe I'm running the cards in 8x pcie 2.0 slots..
4gb Mushkin blackline ddr3 1600

700w PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182191

I did a bios update on my board and that fixed all my videocards issues.

might want to try it...

After I updated my on board sound driver the fan control worked on my top 5850. You just never know...

You have some nice parts, OP, all but the Rosewill PSU. Never cheese log out on the PSU, it should be one of your best components.

I base my buys heavily on customer ratings which gave this psu 4/5 stars.. I know rosewill never was a top brand I guess I was trying to get lucky.. (which sometimes happens in computer parts but never with the bar flies ha) but yes my next step will be trying my buddies 1000 watt... 700 (should) be enough but may as well make sure right.. I'll look for bios updates as well thanks.

Make sure Catalyst A.I. is set to at least Standard and that Crossfire is enabled.

It's not really the wattage that matters. Rosewill PSU's are probably hit or miss. It's newegg's in house brand... I'm willing to bet it's the PSU, but for starters try backing off the OC on the CPU.

would get a new PSU (this may not necessarily be the problem). your PSU has 54A on the 12V which translates to 650W. this is not enough for 5870 crossfire imo.
