AMD has been aware that Crossfire doesn't work with Clone mode displays in ANY games since 2008 and they aren't telling their customers. I just spend $250 on a second 6950 that I can not return. Now I'm incredibly angry because I depend on clone mode on a daily basis and this issue is just being ignored by AMD. This may be the last straw for me, if clone mode works with SLI I'm probably going to have to sell my AMD cards.

Does anyone know if SLI works in clone mode?

Thanks for ignoring a known issue AMD and not advertising it. I LOVE wasting my money.

WOW AMD! FAIL HARDER!

Nvidia has an excellent faq on their page for SLI.... AMD DOESN'T for Crossfirex.

"Does SLI multi-monitor now support Clone mode?

Yes, clone mode is supported, but the 3D performance on both monitors will be less than the SLI focus display’s performance when in Dual View mode."

"Duplicate displays" in Windows 7 Display manager. Shows the same image on both screens (In games as well as windows).
 
For those of us with projectors and TVs that enjoy gaming in multiple locations.

So why not just make the screen you are gaming on the main screen? Takes like 3 seconds. Even Nvidia's SLI clone mode reduces performance according to them.

Or you could always just use a splitter.
 
clone mode works on the desktop for me in crossfire mode. this is with 4 displays too. not sure about gaming.

THIS.

Bash ATI for not supporting what is a useless 3d function to start with, when in reality it takes 3 seconds to to switch primary screen when playing a game.

OR, sell your card, switch to Nvidia to support the silly function and lose performance?

Since your not gaming in multiple places at the same time you don't need clone mode, you simply need to switch your primary monitor. Takes about 3 seconds to do. The only time someone would need clone mode is if they are doing something that they want someone else to see via the other monitor.

I understand this seems like a simple issue that AMD can fix via drivers but even if they do it's likely to cause a performance hit so why even bother for gaming. Learn how to switch your primary monitor from your projector to your monitor, walk to whichever room or turn your head to the appropriate direction, and call it a day.
 
You can setup profiles to switch primary monitors via. a hotkey shortcut in CCC as well.

I love Hardforum.... politeness is totally lost here. The point is that I frequently do tech demos with clone mode gaming and this worked PERFECTLY on a single graphics card but does not work in Crossfire but does work in SLI. I've owned dozens of ATI/AMD products for the last 10+ years and spend thousands a year on new PC hardware. I've been pro-ATI since 1999 because they were a Canadian company. Why I'm pissed off is the total lack of communication from ATI/AMD on this issue. Nvidia at least has a system in place to make it work and they took the time to document the limitations of their configuration.

Amd just ignores it and so I've wasted hundreds of dollars. Yes I know I can use CCC to setup profiles to output the display to the projector only but this is a hassle. Usually I game on my 120hz 24 inch monitor and output to my 116 inch projector display simultaneously for tech demos. I am one of very few that actually needs and uses clone mode gaming on a weekly basis.

The fact that I can game with 6 different monitors in eyefinity but can't clone a single display to another is a little odd don't you think... given that it works on any single graphics card config.
 
I found that out too. I have my monitor and my tv hooked up in clone mode. Fortunately it's not a huge deal for me so I just set hotkeys to switch between which is the primary and secondary.

I think your best bet is to get an HDMI splitter and split that to both your displays.
