You really going spend nearly 2,000 dollars, when you can build something 1,000 +/- 200 that could be quite similar in comparison?

The explanation for the i7 setup is that I do lots of this:

- Video work
- Programming
- Image work

Doing it on the laptop has become unbearable and my desktop is entirely unreasonable:
- P4 Northwood @ 2.4GHz. :D
- 2 GB
 
IMO, the Core 216 is not worth the extra $40 over the older 192SP GTX260 card. So I recommend saving $40 by going with this card:
eVGA 896-P3-1262-AR GeForce GTX 260 Superclocked Edition 896MB PCI-E Video Card - $240

Unless you need the security and backup features as well as the "extras" of Vista Ultimate, save $80 and go with Vista Home Premium 64bit instead.

Ditch that Lian Li since it still uses an 80mm REAR exhaust fan which is kind of a bad idea for a modern high-end rig like yours. I'd get one of these better cooling cases instead:

The WD6400AAKS is significantly faster due to a better platter design, layout, platter density, newer tech, etc. IIRC, the WD3200AAJS has an AVG transfer rate of 55MB/s whereas the WD6400AAKS has an AVG transfer rate of 90MB/s.

There are reports out there indicating that the new 55nm cards use a smaller, less effective cooling solution which leads to them actually running hotter than the older 65nm cards.

However, for some odd reason, it's the cheapest of the Core 216 cards. That's about the price I paid for my Black Edition a little over a month ago.

An overclocked 4870 1gb can be had for cheaper (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127397). This assumes you don't have some other reason for going with the 260, though.

To be honest, I didn't find the performance differences between the two that important, but rather the power saving features offered in the nVidia GTX 2xx lineup.

I think its worth mentioning again that Vista Ultimate is a waste of money. That is unless you are going to use its few "Ultimate Extras". Home Premium 64bit is a much better deal. I bought Ultimate way back when, and am kicking myself for it now.
 
I need some of the Business edition features, without using Business exclusively, though.
 
ok, he just needed a reason. I would have suggested the same thing.
YGPM, BTW. If you take it you might be able to afford a GTX280 instead of the 260 ;)
