I posted this in the "build your own intel/amd" thread on slickdeals, but got no response. So I'm hoping you guys can [H]elp me out! I'll just copy the post here if you don't mind. thanks.

Code:
[B]   1. Do you have a Fry’s or Microcenter nearby?[/B]
no

[B] 2. What is this PC going to be built for?[/B]

linux file server. Also run multiple virtual machines to use as a desktop

I'd also like to play L4D and L4D2, but I don't know how gaming on virtualization has gone so far so I'm not sure about investing in a graphics card

[B]   4. What is YOUR budget?[/B]

around $400 total

[B] 7. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts?[/B]
* APEVIA ATX-AS520W-BK 520W
* 1 PATA 250GB HDD, 2 250GB SATA HDD, 1 1TB SATA HDD

[B]   8. If YOU plan on overclocking?[/B]
yes

[B] 9. When do you plan to build it?[/B]
within the week or two, depending if its worth the wait. Of course I'd like it asap

Subtotal: 	$383.88

all from newegg. But I don't know if there are better deals for specific things from other sites

The parts you selected is not bad. But, I think others will say get an AM3 socket with DDR3 support since the cost of DDR2 is pretty high compared to how it was before.

Also, the Apevia PSU is not a good power supply. I would recommend you upgrade that.

3D gaming in a virtualized environment does not work well.

Also, I definitely agree with HardwareGuru and Shadowssong: go for an AM3 socket based setup as future RAM upgrades will be cheaper and you'll have a better CPU upgrade path as well.

And definitely DO NOT REUSE THAT APEVIA!!!! Apevia PSUs are some of the worst PSUs out there. Here's proof:
Apevia ATX-AS500W-BL
Apevia Warlock Power 900W
XQPack's Included 420W PSU
Aspire Beast 680W Power Supply

Here's the PSUs I'd recommend for your system:
$40 - Antec Earthwatts Green EA380D 380W PSU
$60 - Antec EA500D 500W PSU
