Creative Digital I/O Module worth it?

I forget but there are analog wires that split into 3 RCA cables to seperate each channel. I'm sure someone can dig those up for you some where.

he Digital I/O Module is an upgrade for:

Sound Blaster® Live!™ 24 bit
Sound Blaster® Audigy™ 2 Value
Sound Blaster® Audigy™ SE
Sound Blaster® Audigy™ 4
Sound Blaster® X-Fi™ Range
It will not work on any other model of Sound Blaster® card.
According to creative labs, the module is not for the Audigy MP3+ ...

Anyways your sound card already has a digital output which you can use a digital coaxial cable to connect to your HT system (assuming you have a free digital coaxial input on the HT system). Just use S/PDIF passthrough and your HT system will decode in surround sound your DVD's if they have Dolby Digital or better. Games will still be stereo (they would be stereo even with the I/O module).

~Hope this helps

that will work with my Card definately it an AUDIGY with 3.5mm Digital Output
it fall under this category Sound Blaster® Audigy™ SE

how can i get Digital Coax out from the card?

Something like this would do it for very little money. http://www.radioshack.com/product/i...32058.2032231.2032280&pg=19&parentPage=family
Put this connector into the digital output of your card, and now you can attach a digital coaxial cable to your computer and receiver.

If you can find a single "mini to RCA" cable, that would work too.

~Hope this helps

it will work as digital? not analog right
Right, the digital output on your sound card, with the connector and a coaxial cable will be digital (0's and 1's). With the 4$ connector, any RCA style digital coaxial cable can be used.

i found out that Digital out only support 2 channel

that ODD ><

maybe i'm wrong. I changed the setting to 5.1 but it output at 2 ch

can anyone explain to me with more detail. Just curious

If your source is only stereo it is not going to multiplex it up to 5.1 for you

if you want to hook any 5.1 analog to a 5.1 digital connection you need an encoder..

creative makes one but i asked about it a month ago and got 0 replys, so i'm assuming no one as tried it..

its the DTS-610, takes 6 analog outputs and encodes it into a DTS stream..

http://www.soundblaster.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=16&product=14191

i am a bit weary to the delay it would introduce during gaming but if you have the money give it a try and then tell us what you think..

for my HTPC i personally went with the HDA Mystique (Same as the turtle beach) and have been nothing but pleased with the results, great quality sound, no noticable delay, and all sources are encoded into Dolby Digital 5.1..

its about the same price as the DTS-610 (and the turtle beach is even cheaper) so its pretty much upto you what route you want to go.. IMHO the EAX3/4/5 just wasn't worth keeping the audigy2 in the box and having to deal with analog outputs.

i'm getting a movie with AC3 and Regular DVD format right now to see if The source have to be 5.1 to get 5.1 out of digital
So far i dont have anything that with 5.1 sound
I dont have DVD drive either >< too lazy to buy one

I'll let ya know in 2 days ><

the digital out on your audigy will pass through the 5.1 DVD AC3 stream to the receiver

but there is currently no way to get sounds that are not already encoded to 5.1 to output in 5.1 over the audigy's digital output..

the 5.1 DVD will just passthrough the AC3 signal to the receiver and will be in 5.1, any other Digital sound already encoded will also be passed through to the receiver (with the audigy basically doing nothing)..

any other sounds, games, mp3s, etc.. will only be converted to a dolby prologic stereo signal no matter the speaker settings.. you can try to use your receiver and try simulated surround but its hardly as good as a true 5.1 encoded signal. Its either that or use a 6 channel analog output to your reciever (if your receiver has a 6 channel analog input)..

H-street is right. If you use a DVD disk with DolbyDigital or DTS (or higher), then you can set the sound card to just pass the signal to the receiver and your receiver will decode the True surround sound.

The other way to get stereo out of your other speakers is with something like pro logic or 5 channel stereo on the receiver. This is not true surround sound, just stereo being played though more then 2 speakers. 5/6 channel stereo on the denon receivers works quite well from what ive seen, so its not a total loss.

If you enjoy compressing your audio to a max of 640kbps for all 6 channels (about 105kbps per channel) then use a Dolby Digital Live card. The DTS-610 uses a max of 1550kbps, which should offer significantly less artifacting. (DTS offers greater bandwidth)

(In the case of lossy audio playback, your player will decompress the audio, then the card wil recompress it. The only benefits you get are using the output stage of the receiver. The gaming support isn't all that steller either on the HDA)

Using my card, I get great analog output, and it isn't compressed.

Too bad the reciever doesnt automaticly pick the channel for me

i have to set the reciever to Dolby Digital Logic II
and test it with the scene from Jarhead when they in the car and driving some where

It work. I think but sound great

Thank Everyone

also any program i have to play it on? Windows Media Player or Cyberlink PowerDVD
