Creative contributor Daniel K "Gone for Good"

I don't understand why one poster used a Nvidia analogy as it didn't make any sense. There aren't any nvidia tools that work on XP only Geforce cards. The analogy simply doesn't make sense to me as the nvidia tools weren't meant to be used on Geforce cards at all. Audigy cards are meant to provide hardware acceleration regardless of whether you have XP or Vista.

DirectX 10. And you are completely retarded if you do not think Nvidia had some say in DirectX 10 being Vista only.

Sometimes reality just bites you in the ass:

The following are features and functionality that were available in driver releases
supporting Windows XP, but are not–and will not be–available in driver releases for
Windows Vista:
• High resolution scaling desktop (HRSD)
• MultiView Display Mode (for NVIDIA Quadro NVS graphics cards)
• NVKeystone
• Unified back buffer (UBB) controls
• OpenGL Video Overlays
This is an operating system limitation.
Vista window manager features will provide new ways of accomplishing overlays,
but will require application porting.

I will say that my X-Fi has been working good in Vista 64 w/ 4GB of RAM, which is apparently the doomsday scenario for making one of these cards work.

 totally missed the point of my entire post, I'll just bow out now and let you guys continue your 'debate'.

Oh I know the point of your post, and I am just pointing out how just because you can get something in one OS does not mean you are entitled to it in all OSes.

Absolutely hilarious. One for the books.

I got extra tin foils hats, you can have one :D New versions of Direct X and those implementation are an initiative of both Microsoft and graphics chipset makers. MS was definitely not the only company sitting at the table when it was decided that DX10 would be Vista only.

Interesting thread.

nVidia makes the GeForce processors and the drivers for them. They also make Quadro processors and drivers for them as well. A Quadro is identical to a GeForce. The only thing that makes a Quadro different is the drivers. If you are professional using software like AutoCAD, you need a professional OpenGL graphics card such as a Quadro. Nvidia charges much more for a Quadro, in order of 2 to 3 times the price.

Now if Daniel K were to take a Quadro driver and hack it up and put it on the net for GeForce cards, nVidia would be doing the same thing, telling him to cease.

Creative's software is not Daniel's to mess with.

I don't agree with how he went about many things, but Dan_K did highlight how Creative as a company operates, and I won't be buying anymore of their cards anytime soon.

The horror show of going from xp > vista 64, and the realization that yanking my x-fi extreme gamer was the best thing I ever did, highlights how shitty creative has acted in regards to vista support.

Remember NVIDIA's G80 drivers in the beginning?
That Microsoft fucked up'ed Vista is their fault...and the sound got waaaaaaay more fucked up that the graphics
