Ok I was rebuilding an engine with my dad, and he put this copper paste on the threads of screws.

Would that paste work as thermal compound, although alot of it is probably lube it had copper in and you could see it.

Meh just an idea :)
 
i dont think so, unlless you could supply the chemical make-up & amounts for analysis. What he is applying iis AntiSeizing compund, I can't say foor sure, but how hard is it to pop-$3-9 for a proper tube.
 
I've already got lube. ;) Arctic silver uses silver. Silver better than Aluminum for the heat to travel through
 
i doubt arctic silver would bother developing these new compounds if there was already something better out there especially with copper they wouldnt have to waste money on expensive silver
 
NO DO NOT USE IT...it is only an anti-seize coumpound and has poor thermal transfer properties...plus it will melt and bubble, leaving an oily mess in your computer.
 
The paste used in the motor would not work for thermal compound. Thermal compound like Arctic Silver is made with tiny particles of silver to get in the tiny places between the heatsink and CPU. The copper in the compound used for the motor does not have the small particles. The copper particles are like boulders compared to the silver "sand like" particles in Arctic Silver.
