I just received my card on Friday and installed it been giving me nothing but fits. It crashes in Tomb Raider, Hitman Absolution, Shogun 2, and Assassins Creed III, however it does not crash in League of Legends/Valley benchmark. I get to the main menu in all the games hit continue play for maybe 5secs, then BAM crashes to desktop giving me an nvidia error.

In Hitman absolution, I receive this Error code: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED

All other games are just the nvidia error.

I have tried everything that I can think of, very frustrating to say the least.

1920x1200
Windows 7
2500k 3.8ghz
256 samsung pro SSD
780 GTX ACX EVGA version
4gb DDR3 1600mhz
Antec TPQ-850 850W Continuous Power ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC "compatible with Core i7/Core i5" Power Supply
Graphics Driver 320.49 version I have tried the 326.01 drivers also and some older ones. No luck.

Here is my dxdiag in case someone can spot something.

I had some crashing problems with an ACX 770 and Lightning 680. Turned out to be heat-related as the twin fan coolers on both cards tended to keep hot air within my case. When I switched to a 780 with its blower cooler that forces hot air out the back of the case, my crashing problems stopped altogether. Maybe consider trying the 780 with blower cooler?

No i dont think that's the issue, my GPU doesn't have time to get hot. The games crash within 5seconds of playing or so. Also I have used Valley Benchmark 1.0 and my gpu only gets to around 64c at full load.

I made a post at the official nvidia forums as well, anywhere else I can find help?

What drivers are you using? I am sure the DxDiag dump tells you somewhere in there but I don't see the actual commonly referred to version #.

Did you already do basic troubleshooting like reinstall drivers, update your motherboard firmware, etc?

What is your power supply?

Yes I already did the basic trouble shooting and even reinstalled windows 7 last night with fresh install of all drivers firmware etc. I edited my post so now the PSU is shown and drivers etc. I had 560's TI in sli before this new card and everything ran fine. Might be the card but how do I figure that out? Also maybe my PSU can't handle this new card? I dont know.....

im sure you know this but the only way determine if its the card is try the card in another system. if it exhibits the same behavior then its safe to say the card is defective. if it works then you know its some other hardware in your system.

If the card was defective wouldn't it not run League of legends and the valley benchmark?

Something i just tried was shogun 2 benchmark. I tried it on directx 9 mode and it ran perfectly fine. Tried it on directx 11 mode and crashed right after the loading screen. An issue with directx 11 i am having maybe? Ok so yah just played hitman absolution for a good 10mins and no crash, played it on the lowest settings and tomb raider as well no crash. Seems to be a directx 11 issue, how in the world do i fix this?

When I had game crashing problems with my GTX 680, MSI tech support told me to try running 3DMark 11. If 3DMark crashed during its run, the card was bad and eligible for replacement. Three straight crashes confirmed the 680 problem. Couldn't hurt to give it a try.

Ok...just tried running 3D Mark11 and it gave me this error, the benchmark ran for about 2 or 3 seconds.

Unexpected error running tests.
Workload work failed with error message: DXGI call IDXGISwapChain::present failed [-2005270523]:

Hardware device removed.

DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED

Ran it a second time and it got passed the first test but on the second test graphic test 1 i it crashed. Giving me the same error as mentioned above.

Also firefox crashes and gives me this error as well.

This report also contains technical information about the state of the application when it crashed.

I'd contact EVGA and get an RMA. No sense screwing around after you dropped all that $$ on your 780.

CPU is overclocked and has been that way for a few years and never had trouble. It's only OCed to 3.8ghz which is the max turbo boost will go.

I tried running the 3D mark11 test 4 times and all crashed and gave the same error as mentioned above. I ordered it through amazon, do i have to go through amazon or evga to get a replacement? I really think its the card and hope it is, i have been dealing with this crap since Fri evening. Spent hours researching and testing...

I suggest you disable ALL overclocking on the CPU and Memory and see if you get any crashes.

Try using EVGA Precision to up the max GPU voltage and give 3DMark another run. Go with a .020V (20mV) increase on that card for testing. The ACX version is a factory overclocked version and you may have received a poorly binned card.

Ok when I get home from work I'll try increasing the voltage and going back to stock on my CPU.

CPU is overclocked and has been that way for a few years and never had trouble. It's only OCed to 3.8ghz which is the max turbo boost will go.

If you've had the card less than 30 days, Amazon will exchange or refund it for you. They might cross ship the replacement if you call and explain the problem.

Ok thank I'll try all these steps when I get home from work then give an update.

Well I got home today and this was the first thing I tried and amazingly it may have fixed my problem but I can only increase by +13, +25, or +38 as these 2 images show. + 13 works I have not tried +25 or +38, i am not very knowledgeable when it comes to voltages and I do not want to screw something up. What does this mean? Is there something wrong with my gfx card?

I ran shogun 2 benchmark directx 11 graphics high and it completed
I ran the 3D mark 11 and it got passed the tests that it would crash on the GPU ones but it did not make it all the way through, it crashed on the firestorm when it was loading. I had to do a restart, computer just completely locked up. I am going to do a few more tests to see.

I have spoken too soon, still crashing although games and the benchmark go further then they did before.

I lowered my CPU back down to 3.3ghz
Uninstalled the nvidia 3D drivers
Increased the voltage +13

Those are the things I have done so far.

RMA for another 780, man. No way should you have to go through all this hassle to get a $700 video card to work correctly.

Have you flashed the updated bios from evga? You may just need to back up your data and reinstall a fresh copy of windows. If you're still getting crashes after that I'd lean towards a hardware problem.

The bios is up to date from evga already checked on that and yes i reinstalled windows 7 sunday night. Could it be my PSU being old? I got it back in 2007....how could i find out if its the psu or not.

Just a quick update, I installed my 560 ti superclocked evga version back into my computer and it runs flawlessly. The 780gtx is probably bad which is most likely the case OR my PSU for some reason is not compatible with it.

Amazon's really good with returns/exchanges. I think a bad 780 is much more likely than a PSU issue.

Downclock the card, i had a 660ti oc that was doing the same thing, the gpu was oc by gigabytes but i had to dial vanilla 660ti clo k for it to work, ive rma it and the new one works perfectly

I am going to RMA for another 780, I'll post back here the results
Yeah, looks like a bad bin. If you upped the boost voltage to the max (37 or 38mV) it would have probably been stable, however as others have noted, you should not have to do this. Hopefully the RMA solves it for you.

Amazon is out of stock hopefully they will get some more in soon. Also the lady on the phone from amazon told me that If they get some more in stock that they will send the new card before they get my old card. That is really nice oh and over night shipping.

New card came in today, installed it and running GREAT! Tried hitman absolution, far cry 3, and shogun 2, no crashes! My other card couldn't even load far cry 3 without CTD. So looks like it def was a bad card, thank goodness, dont have to buy a new PSU. Thank you all for the help! I will post back here if something bad happens.

Glad you got it figured out and solved.
I remember picking up a 6970 release day and had it artifact in Minecraft.
