Crap; Think I made a bad decision

I recently bought a Tuniq Tower 120 for my new upcoming rig (as seen in my sig) but now after reading more thoroughly about it I am thinking this HSF might give me a hell of a trouble.

I have a Lian Li PCV2000B Plus II case and I am using an eVGA 680i A1 board with a Q6600 chip. However, I read you can only apply this like three times before you need a new sticky backing, which may be a pain.

I am in college so I have to move my computer at the beginning and at the end of the semester - so I'll have to be especially careful when moving this beast of a computer, but even more if I have to keep the Tuniq tower attached. I was planning to take it off and on when I moved it so I would case any damage to my mobo, but if I can't take it off and on with ease and also affecting its life of usage I might as well get a different HSF. Not to mention I have xbox hueg hands also.

I've read about that the Ultima 90 is another good choice for a HSF; do you know if any brick and mortar stores sell them? Problem is, I have until next week Friday to build my rig (This Saturday to next week Sunday is my Thanksgiving break from Uni) so I am very short on time in case anything I ordered goes for the worse, and since this is my first build, this will take a lot longer than someone who's built theres before.

My zip code (USA) is 52722 in case anyone would like to see what is all within my range of access on like Google Maps or some sort of yellow pages like website.

I think you misunderstood, the three times is for applying the sticky backing to the back side of the motherboard. You will not be pulling that off to dismount the heatsink, it will stay stuck to the backside of the motherboard. They were saying if you changed motherboards and wanted to reuse the heastink, if you peeled the backing plate off of the old mother board to put on the new, you would only get two or three re-applications before the stickyness went away. (I would not even let that bother me, a few blobs of hot melt glue would hold the backing plate in place until I could get the mounting hardware in place and then it would hold itself. )

You are very wise to remove the heatsink when moving the PC, but that mounting plate should not be an issue, it will just ride along on the back of the motherboard (they "stick" very well) until you are ready to put the heatsink back on.

doesn't that heatsink have a backplate? i wouldn't worry about transporting it with a cpu that has an IHS, it'll take a lot to actually break the motherboard. just don't do something stupid, like drop the computer ;)

buyers remorse sucks

I bought the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme when I would have been fine with the Ultima 90.

I'm just going to shut up and install it anyway

Almost did the same. I spent a week turning it over, finally decided I didn't like what I'd heard about the TRUE being so heavy it warped the board.

Finally came back home and found my whole bunch of presents :p and DANG, this Tuniq Tower 120 is HEAVY.

What or how would I go upon getting this back to NewEgg? I definitely need something a little bit lighter... I'm going to check out all the PC stores in my area and hope one of them have the Ultima 90 in stock (call first of course) and bite the bullet and probably buy it overpriced (I can't wait too long, I only got till next Saturday to finish this :< if I delay this build I won't be back home till the 17th of December, which is past 30 days of all my purchases which would be bad if something failed >_<!).

Wow, I am retarded, lol. I forgot that the Q6600 has a HSF so I guess I can use this while my new Ultima 90 comes in the mail and send in my Tuniq. :D

Well, if you want to sell it at a loss, I'm sure someone around here would take it off your hands! *hint hint*

Just to make sure - will the Ultima 90 fit my Lian Li PC V2000 Plus II case?

I measured out the Ultima at 14 cm + lets say 3 cm (still haven't installed the mobo yet) more for the mobo & stands - it is cutting it a tad close for my width when I measure inside my case.

Anyone else have the same or similar case with the Ultima 90?

I hardly read that anywhere. What did you get instead?

Just install the Tuniq. I move my PC around all the time and have no issues with it. As long as you're not throwing around your case nothing will happen. If you want to be really careful you can just lay your case on it's side during transport, so that the Tuniq is sitting vertical, but even that isn't necessary IMO.

The Tuniq is still too large vertically for the Lian Li anyway.

I need a HSF that is low enough and can fit with that bottom part of the mobo area of the Lian Li case.
