Craigslist is being sued again because claims of prostitution stemming from its “erotic” section. I know, I know, this happens so often it isn’t really a “story.” Well, unless the person suing you is the county Sheriff. Hopefully this prostitution / illegal massage story has a happy ending.

Sheriff Tom Dart has asked a federal court to force Craigslist to remove the Web publication's Erotic section and Cook County has also asked a federal court for $100,000. The money represents compensation for the man hours Cook County has had to pay police in chasing after illegal ads on Craigslist.

Two thoughts come to mind.

First, you know he fined the people he caught with both fees to cover manpower and punitive 'don't do that again' fines, now he wants money from Craigslist too?

Second, he thinks Cragslist is responsible if somebody else posts a listing on their site. I suppose that means he's responsible if somebody commits a crime against you while you're in his county right? Somehow I think his response to that would be 'It isn't my fault that happened to you while you were in Cook county, I didn't do it to you."

I don't get all this "prostitution is illegal" business. If you have a camera rolling, it is legal, and you are a "porn star". If you have just one (rich) client, it is legal, although people might call him a "sugar daddy" and yourself a slut. If you are in Nevada or Rhode Island it is legal (with some restrictions).
It is 100% guaranteed, since the dawn of humankind, that wherever there are men and willing women there will be sex for money. If it is made illegal, it makes things worse, as the women that will anyway do it will need more "protection" from shady people and will generally be in more danger. Their clients too. And let's not go into the health issues wherever there is uncontrolled prostitution (and illegal prostitution is uncontrolled by definition).
There is only one non-third world country that has such ridiculous legislation. To make matters worse, law enforcement in that country spends resources fighting this by having officers pose as prostitutes to arrest "customers".
Oh, well... I guess that's not the most retarded thing going on in this country (but it is close)...

All the posts about are moot points. Prostitution is ILLEGAL, I am surprised the Federal courts haven't done something about this already. No one expect losers would want to sleep with one of those ugly hoes on cl.

My biggest complaint about all this is that Craigslist seems to be fine with these types of "erotic" sections and "casual encounter" sections, but forbids a section for guns. Lame...

Speak English much?

Well, there's no reason you can't list a suggestive ad in the prostitution section, if people know there to look for gun ads.

For example:
"Wanna shoot my big gun? My gun is like a Sig Sauer P229 --- ready to pump 14 rounds of HOT METAL into you, baby! Call 555-555-1212 and ask for COWBOY"

I mean, that's not explicity selling guns NOR explicitly soliciting for prostitution. In fact, nobody would be sure what the hell you're doing so posting such an ad would be legal. Afaik.

i don't get why prostitution has ever been an issue.

girl gets laid, dude gets laid, girl gets money....big deal... THIS IS NOT BRAGGING but personally if i needed to get my rocks off i could probably go out and get it free, some guys/girls can't....shit if i was really hard up i'd hit up the list.

seriously, make it legal, that in turn makes it safer and a source of revenue...I still think prostitution is only illegal for the same reasons marijuana is...they can't profit enough off it.

CL started in San Fransico, Hey Sthailor!! Not exactly a hot bed of pro gun stances there.
Which brings me to a point. Why are they (the gays) so out spoken in saying that they should be able to live their life the way they want it, but a majority of gays will also say gun owners shouldn't be able to live their lives they way they want to??

Prostitution is a joke anyway. No womans vagina is monetarily worth anything...especially some silly trick I don't know.

selling is legal...f%$king is legal

So why then isn't selling f%$king legal?
- The Late Great George Carlin

Same reason tobacco and alcohol is and prostitution and wed are not..

No taxation and political lobby groups. Corporate America and uncle sam need to f%$k you before you get f%$ked

That isn't the problem.. just look at the situation in Amsterdam right now. They're trying to reclaim the city and practically relocate it.

because people use guns to murder people.

I don't know if prostitution is a matter of guys that can't get it. I think it's more of a matter of getting it without the drama. Like what's his face, the British actor that got busted for it. I'm sure he wouldn't have much problem not paying for it.

I'm all for making it legal everywhere. ...more so because of value theory though. Drama-less supply goes up, that'll make the alternative worth less. This will drive the cost (emotional and otherwise) of dealing with the average girl's BS down. Dating would be so much less complicated. ...and imagine how great everyone's wife would treat them if the local legal hooker was just down the block. Everybody wins!

It's the great hidden hypocrisy of America: We'll start a special interest group that promotes only our agenda and we'll defend it by saying that it's for "equal rights for everyone".

You find that mentality in just about any special interest group though.

Ain't that the truth...

There are millions of people that are Pro Death-Penalty, and at the same time Anti Euthanasia for terminal patients that want it. I don't get this at all...

I want it not only legalized, I want it NATIONALIZED!!!!

Only good looking hot chicks, they work on the Govt payroll, and we the people get all the FREE PUSSY we want!

Make it part of healthcare reform... a drained dick is a happy dick.:rolleyes::p

That is economic reform I can believe in!!

That's a good point. Although, if it takes the threat of a hooker to keep folks in line, there's other problems afoot.

To be honest, prostitution is overrated. I was abroad recently to a place where there were legal hookers *everywhere* and it just wasn't that appealing. Surprisingly so. Plus, there were plenty of normal chicks anyway, and normal chicks generally like to bone too. I think the Johns are mainly guys who want a much hotter chick than they could get otherwise.

you sir are a genius...i never thought of the drama angle.. Holy shit, legalization could revolutionize the long term relationship. Let's get those special interest groups started!

....what a wonderful world that would be

First they clean up Time Square in NYC and now they taking away prostitution on Craiglist. When it's all said and done, there will be no more happy endings.:(

Honestly whos fucking business is it if some chick wants to sell some sex. I hate the Theocracy of the United States of America. Shut down the abusive pimps and human traffickers, not some single mom trying to feed her kid by banging some guy.

I really hate this country sometimes.

Reading this thread leads me to believe most [H] readers are sixteen years old.

Are you the same guys who scream "fag" all the time on XBL?

OMG Quote of the year!
I live in CROOK COUNTY and have had somewhat of first hand experience with my asshole ex-roommate using CL for sluts.
I remember him asking "Hey can I use your computer to check my email?"
Me being a nice guy says sure.
After coming home from DJing at the bar, I am starting to get all these popups so I check my history.
Ole "Erotic services" and multiple listings within such sub-thread have been "purpled out"
There's another system with a structure similar to CL this douche was going to called http://www.backpage.com/

What a fucking nightmare this dude was.
I'll never live with a roommate again, I could go on and on about this motherfucker and the shit he pulled off behind my back.
Lesson learned, never find a roommate on CL.
*kicks self in ass*

For crying out loud, just legalize it and be done with it.Then police would have added resources to handle real crimes, the government would have a new source for taxes, the hookers could form their own union, the possibilities are endless. The government itself set the precedent when they allowed it in Nevada,to make it a crime anywhere else is sheer hypocrisy.

Another example of our legal authrorities and government officials who have alittle bit too much time on their hands.

I have never understood how so called prositution can be legal/moral in one county of Nevada and yet illegal/immoral in the rest of the country.

The police are complaining because it's to easy to set up stings and actually arrest people for this? /sigh.
