Curious if CPU PLL and PCH effect ram stability. I had to increase these to get my Dominator GT 2000mhz kit stable but it also added a good chunk of heat to my CPU. Should I have tried increasing the ram voltage a bit first? I was passing all stabililty tests with PLL and PCH set to Auto when I had my 1600mhz c8 kit. Thx for any advice.

should not, but not sure what PCH is. Increasing the voltage level of the PLL clock chip or the clock signal to the CPU (or in the CPU) will/should do nothing for memory as the BCLK is just used to clock other clock circuity inside the cpu. But its an I7 so my knowledge is limited. /shrug.

So /shrug overall. But most seem to run the memory controller/memory voltage up to around 1.65 (Intel strongly recommends NOT exceeding that value - ) first.

See what other people with more i7 experience than myself say.

Look at this thread, the motherboard is different but they seem to know what is a good stragety for OCing an I7 etc.

Corsair seems to think PLL could effect the stability. I know i was stable at my old settings and now with the new ram kit at 2000mhz 8-8-8-24 1T I have to up the PLL to pass LinX or I fail every time.
 
I set the PLL and PCH back to auto and gave the CPU a bump in voltage.. now passing LinX for 40 passes no problem but failing prime at about the 2 hour mark. Another bump in CPU voltage didnt help. I may try playing with the PLL voltage again.
 
Bumped ram voltage up to 1.658 from 1.651 and now im passing prime no problem!
